Adults 18-49: Rating/Share 2.5/8 2.4/8 0.8/3 0.5/2
Total Viewers (million) 7.612 8.998 4.395 2.464

Due to the nature of live sports programming the ratings for FOX (World Series) and ABC ( College Football)  are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. The numbers are also more likely to see significant revision because we only saw the 8-10pm portion of the World Series game, so the numbers included here don't even include the end of the contest.  Similarly, the Notre Dame/Oklahoma game does not include the results past 11pm ET.

ABC was number one last night with adults 18-49, but FOX won with total viewers.

On ABC, College Football (Notre Dame at Oklahoma) scored a preliminary 2.5 adults 18-49 rating between 8-11p.

On FOX, The 2012 World Series Game 3  notched a preliminary 2.4 adults 18-49 rating between 8-10pm (because Fox normally only programs between 8-10p, the averages we saw were only through 10pm).

On CBS, 48 Hours earned a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating, matching last week's performance.

Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2012 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

9 million viewers? Is that real? I can’t believe it. Now I wonder how many viewers game 4 will have?

  • Johnny

All of CBS’ primetime programming was preempted in the Columbus, OH market yesterday. 48 Hours was seen at 12 AM. The other crime repeats were not shown.

  • Gina

Lol. It’s kind of hard for Non-Giants fans to excited over World Series. Giants are just dominating. I’m loving it. Could careless about ratings!! :D

  • Ultima

9 million viewers? Is that real? I can’t believe it

It will adjust up significantly in the finals (game 1 was +11%, game 2 was +21%) to around a 2.8 rating and 10.5 million viewers (and finish ahead of the Notre Dame game).

Now I wonder how many viewers game 4 will have?

It will be up; Saturday is usually the lowest rated game. It’s a potential final game and FOX has a massive lead-in with a near-exslusive Giants/Cowboys game. I expect between 15 and 20 million viewers for game 4.

I used to watch baseball religiously but I haven’t seen one second of the league playoffs or the World Series this year. The only sport I watch now is football, whether it’s the NFL or college.

  • rob60990

What a horrible year for the World Series for FOX. It will very likely be over tonight.

  • Austin Lauran

If NCIS and The Big Bang Theory were on Saturday nights, would they be able to crack at least a 2.0?

  • CBSviewer

So people are watching TV on Saturday.

  • Ultima

It will very likely be over tonight.

The Giants went 6-0 in elimination games, maybe the tables will turn! ;)

Seriously though, does FOX try and move The X Factor back to Wednesday/Thursday under the assumption there’s no chance this series goes back to San Francisco?

  • ih8tofly

Baseball on FOX isn’t worth watching so long as Buck & McCarver call the games. They are horrible to listen to.

  • andy

With the way the ratings are going Sunday-Friday.

I think Networks should start broadcasting on Saturday with original programming.

They probably won’t do any worse than some shows do during the week.

Truly expect the World Series to be adjusted up & tonight’s game should also be a ratings “winner”

To be honest though, all eyes are on the Weather Channel (in my circle) & all day yesterday people were outside topping trees & bringing all air-born objects indoors

Box Office was off way big due to the Northeast & I think it will go without saying that Mon-Thurs ratings should be just a woeful

Hope I have power to find out

  • Mike3

It would have been even lower if the game wasn’t close. Some people probably thought the Tigers still had a chance in the game. Ratings could have been worse if it was a blowout.

  • Mike3

For all the hype about the NotreDame-Oklahoma matchup, those are bad ratings. Alabama-LSU will get a much better rating next Saturday night on CBS.

  • DW

hoping for the giants to sweep then they can show the mob doc on monday see the rating tank and pull it for november. get this thing over with. i know it wont happen but its sounds good.

  • LT

So will we get the final rating for the WS? I know you guys don’t usually do finals on Saturdays but this is once a year type thing.

“Seriously though, does FOX try and move The X Factor back to Wednesday/Thursday under the assumption there’s no chance this series goes back to San Francisco?”

While anything can happen, as Robert pointed out to me yesterday, not only has an 0-3 World Series never been salvaged, they’ve never even made it to a game 6.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Robert Seidman

@LT, no chance we will see finals today, they won’t be available until Tuesday morning. But Fox Sports probably did order time zone adjusted fast nationals (which are usually the same as the national finals). If they send the info out, we’ll post it.

  • Jesse

Alabama vs LSU will get at least 10 million viewers and at least 3.0 demo next saturday.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“@LT, I doubt we will see finals, but Fox Sports probably did order time zone adjusted fast nationals (which are usually the same as the national finals). If they send the info out, we’ll post it.”

Also, if the WS game is in the broadcast top 25 for the week, we’d post it in the “Weekly Top 25″ lists as usual on Tuesday.
