Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    @The End
98 percent of people affected won’t be tracked by Nielsen anyway.

98% of the people who’s programming is preempted for Monday/Thursday Night Football aren’t tracked by Nielsen and yet (shockingly to you, apparently) the national ratings are affected.

The impact of this event is pretty insignificant on the numbers, even the ones received on Sunday.

How was the future, anyways? Care to hook me up with some of next week’s NFL scores?

These numbers are pretty much, near enough the same as they are every week.

You have no clue how much these numbers are affected by local preemptions. Also, you are aware that the storm is still sitting over the Atlantic, right? That it doesn’t hit until tonight?

  • OnceFan

OUAT is such a ratings monster. The only thing it needs now is some love from the Emmy’s to lift it to the high heavens.

  • ronnie

Max is a desperate loser who cant sleep at night worried constantly about scandal’s inevitable cancellation.so he bashes revenge which is doing great and will keep running for many many years to come. Suck it,max.

  • sally

the only network show i watch on sunday is The MEntalist, the other shows i watch are cable.

  • SJ

    @Nick

I don’t think ABC was preempted anywhere. They sometimes get preempted for Monday Night Football, but never on Sundays.

Re: 666 Park Ave, I don’t think the title is the problem (although I could be underestimating the stupidity of the average TV viewer). The issue with the show is that it’s vanilla at best. It has improved since the pilot, but not nearly enough.

Any reason as to why Max still hasn’t been blocked?

  • Flame

In other words: You can’t say anything yet, because the ratings for 3 of the networks are jumbled and may affect the fourth.

  • eridapo

    @ xaM,

Are u the bizarro version of “Max”? If ao, shouldn’t you be hating on Scandal instead of OUAT.

  • Chris

Markets where CBS was delayed were airing Raiders at Chiefs (that was the only late game on CBS yesterday). The start times as well as which stations were airing the late game:

    60 Minutes 7:09/6:09c, TAR 8:09/7:09c, TGW 9:09/8:09c, Mentalist 10:09/9:09c

So only a very small overrun. Here are the stations in Eastern and Central airing Oakland-Kansas City, according to the506.com:
    Atlanta, GA
    Charlotte, NC
    Chicago, IL
    Columbia, MO
    Detroit, MI
    Flint, MI
    Joplin, MO
Kansas City, MO (duh!) (also serving St. Joseph, MO)
    Lansing, MI
Lincoln, NE (also serving North Platte, NE)
    Omaha, NE
    Ottumwa, IA
    Philadelphia, PA
    Pittsburgh, PA
    Springfield, MO
    Topeka, KS
    Washington, DC
    Wichita, KS

Additionally, Kansas City’s FOX station didn’t have the NFL overrun, and was the only FOX station in the entire nation not airing Giants-Cowboys. (NFL rules prohibit a game airing opposite a local team’s home broadcast.) It did air The OT, however.

Why would the ratings being jumbled on FOX, NBC and CBS have anything to do with ABC?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“Any reason as to why Max still hasn’t been blocked?”

Because we block people only for sock puppetry, and infrequently at that.

Blocking people for being annoying would be a full time job.

  • Joe

Once was amazing best ep so far

Good for TM & TGW I dont care What Bill says they wont get canceled

  • Joe

So why FOX would air Flop Factor next sunday instead FG wich is their highest rated show i just dont understand

  • cc

Revenge, best part of Sunday night viewing.

Interesting to those who said no one watches baseball anymore. It beat out SNF.

  • OnceFan

So Nashville’s gonna be the only new fall show that’ll survive this season? I love that show too, but I still have that tiny hope that 666 Park Avenue’s gonna make it too.

  • Joe

    @Max
    REVENGE…

    LOL.

…so begins the inevitable slide down.

Nothing more needs to be said on my part. :)

It could be adjusted up you know :)

  • cc

Anyone know what will be on Fox tonight?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“Good for TM & TGW I dont care What Bill says they wont get canceled”

I think your crazy fanhood may be disrupting your eyesight (or thinking).

I’ve not predicted either show will be canceled this season.

    No, it didn't.

You can't read and understand numbers – give up and stop trying.

“So Nashville’s gonna be the only new fall show that’ll survive this season? I love that show too, but I still have that tiny hope that 666 Park Avenue’s gonna make it too.”

    Nashville is still a “maybe”.

666 Park Avenue is a “no”.

Great job OUAT; the week’s #1 drama ahead of NCIS and Grey’s. It is annoying, however, that people are gloating about OUAT’s 3.4 and calling it a ratings monster, all the while trashing Grey’s. Let us remember that Grey’s scored a 4.4 in its ninth season (a number that OUAT has never reached), which is incredible, and when it was in its second season (like OUAT), averaged an 8.9. People can hang their heads over OUAT’s 3.4, but that show will never approach the success of dramas like Grey’s or DH.
