Ratings for freshman drama Emily Owens, M.D. started low, and went even lower in its second week. It's now likely to be canceled.

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Because the folks at the CW seem to like short final seasons for their veteran shows, 90210 could be renewed for a 13 episode final season next year, even with its terrible ratings, that's why it's just a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal. They could certainly re-ealuate their penchant for short final seasons if schedule time next season gets tight though. Read more about it here.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

HoD certainly has the product placements, I’ll grant them that. I have seen Toyota, ASUS and LG conspicuously featured this season.

  • cam

i’m still upset that they canceled The Secret Circle when the ratings were considered good for the CW, now they have a string of flops.

  • Randy

This network really needs a Disney Channel shows night already, in the order of Good Luck Charlie, That’s So Raven, or Wizards of Waverly Place because this network is just not doing good at all. They need to expand out of just teenage shows. It also probably would be smart to move some of the popular CBS shows onto this network in order to get people to watch this network more, and say that they aren’t just a teenager network anymore. By expanding this brand, than they could also get rid of the 9pm central news, and have some shows on than. If CBS is the #1 network, than why isn’t the CW close behind. CBS really needs to figure this out before the CW is just completely gone. They are really dumb!

I probably said it before, but why not put 2 of those shows on CBS (A good example would be Supernatural for Friday on CBS), and than take some of CBS shows, and put it on the CW.

  • Randy

The problem with 90210 this year and last year is that their is too much we are having a party story line. It happens in about every episode, and it’s boring to me. That’s probably why the ratings keep getting worse & worse. Who cares about all these parties.

  • Tessa

Nikita if not on Friday would rate higher than Supernatural.

Arrow will be downgraded to likely to be cancelled in by the end of February.

We are so freaking popular in China!

I was expecting the jokes to come from the so called “haters,” not the Nikita fans themselves. Thanks for the laugh anyways.

Ok I got one with the correct pedantic: “Nikita ratings are so low they’ve gone through the earth and created a hill in China!” :D

  • Alexis

Nikita is a terrific show that deserves way, WAY higher ratings. Just goes to show how little justice there is in the world, and how viewers – Nielsen viewers, at least – would rather watch crap that appeals to the lowest common denominator than an intelligent, complex, mature show.

There’s a silver lining, though… we know Nikita won’t go on forever and ever because of high ratings, start sucking and become a shadow of its former self. EP Craig Silverstein had a 3-year-plan, and as long as he gets to see it through, with enough of an advance note to wrap up the story properly, I’m okay with that. I’d much rather have 3 great seasons and end there, than 3 great seasons followed by 5-6-7 awful ones.

  • POI

just cancel EOMD and put some repeats in their to benefit your new shows and get more viewers into it.

  • Arrow

Hopefully CW uses their head and moves Crapnatural outta the way next Season. It bleeding so many total viewers from Arrow its cringeworthy.

    Such a stupid show! :D

  • Mickey

    @Arrow

I wish you’d choose another handle, you’re a disgrace to the name.

Yeah, poor Arrow, paired with the second-highest rated show on the CW (now third behind Arrow) and a very compatible genre. Supernatural went from tieing with Grimm for highest DVR percentage gain the first week without Arrow, to not even being on the DVR chart. So a lot of Supernatural fans watched live instead of DVRing because they could make an evening of it by also watching Arrow. So Arrow is benefitting from being paired with Supernatural, because Supernatural viewers are watching Arrow, and watching it live, because it’s paired with Supernatural.

If you’re not happy with Supernatural, you can have ANTM. I’m sure Nikita fans would be happy to trade with you.

Also, Supernatural is in its 8th season, Arrow is barely into its first. That Supernatural is still going so strong after being kicked around the CW for 7 years is impressive.

And did you get the memo about total viewers not mattering, it’s the 18-49 demo that matters? Supernatural attracts younger viewers than Arrow, and it doesn’t need as many total viewers as Arrow to get a strong 18-49 demo.

  • Mickey

    @Arrhole

Yeah, that’s more like it. I refuse to call you Arrow.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

Sid, Arrow and any of their other sock puppets will no longer be joining us.

  • Justin121

I hate the CW comments so I’ll just write my own without reading others':

    A few things to consider:

a- The CW usually canceles 2-3 shows,

    b- Cult doesn’t have a timeslot, yet

    and

c- Owens and Beast haven’t been picked up for a full season, yet

Ergo, 2 out of Owens, Beast, Cult, and Carrie, will be cancelled.

    All others will be renewed.

My prediction: Beast gets cancelled, in addition to the Carrie Diaries.

I hope Owens and Cult make it.

  • Dave Franco

This site predicted the collapse of Nikita and they were wrong. Nikita will be renewed, haters.

As Birkhoff would say, “Haters don’t fly with me!” The best character on the CW.

  • Alan

I think the CW will air the 13 episodes of Emily Owens and then cancel it on May, but if they cancel it now, they wouldn’t have nothing to fill that spot.

  • christina

I hope there’s hope for The L.A. Complex!

  • christina

    COME ON L.A. COMPLEX!

  • Kate

This is a great show for those who like something besides the usual porn shown by the networks. I sure hope it doesn’t get canceled. I am so sick of shows like Grey’s Anatomy that have nothing to offer except people dragging each other off to bed. It gets sooooo boring!

  • Restless

Huh, wouldn’t have guessed Arrow was a sock of Sid. He seemed like such a reasonable guy, too. Never know who’s a troll in disguise. :P

Also, I saw this in an older thread, but people please don’t label shows as ‘for guys’ or ‘for girls’ and then claim the guy shows appeal to a broader audience than girl shows. That sounds rather sexist.

And more on topic, if Arrow remains well rated, I’ll be surprised if they don’t move Supernatural next year to Monday or Tuesday to try to rebuild those nights. They have a lot of new show prospects that could match well with those two shows, so a split wouldn’t pose a compatibility issue like it’s doing on Fridays.

  • Carmen

I’m suprised they aren’t saying Nikita will be cancelled it has .34 in ratings. Doing worse the Emily Owents.
