NBC Replaces 'Animal Practice' With New '30 Rock' on Halloween Night

In what is shaping up to be the craziest week in recent television history, NBC is opting to replace the October 31 episode of Animal Practice with a new episode of 30 Rock that was originally scheduled to air this Thursday. NBC is airing a repeat of Monday's The Voice on Thursday instead of its regularly scheduled. The episode, "There's No I in America" centers around the upcoming election, so NBC in all likelihood thought it made more sense to air it prior to the election. Since Animal Practice has already been canceled, the Wednesday episode is certainly expendable.

    Does this mean they won’t air 30 Rock on Thursdays or are they airing two episodes this week?

  • Oliver

    NBC Thursday has been preempted for a repeat of Monday’s episode of The Voice.

  • TV Gord

    What the WHAT???

    Oh well, I’ll take it. I’ll take 30 Rock wherever I can find it!

  • Greg

    @Oliver

    Oh, thank you. Didn’t hear about that, my bad.

  • John A

    So has Animal Practice made all 13 eps? And if so will NBC ever air the rest?

  • ABCDEF

    What will be more crazy, it could pull better numbers than on its regular time slot.

    But we’re still going to get a bunch of Halloween episodes (on all networks) airing the first week of November. And of course, Community’s Halloween episode will be airing in February, but that’s a whole different story.

  • Oliver

    @John A

    Animal Practice made 8 episodes. 6 have been aired, and the other 2 aren’t currently scheduled.

    “centers around the upcoming election, so NBC in all likelihood thought it made more sense to air it prior to the election.”

    Also, with the Thursday preemption NBC would have had to find another slot for the 30 Rock episode. That may have meant putting the Community start back a week only hours after announcing it!

  • John A

    @Oliver Cool thanks

  • DryedMangoez

    But wasn’t the scheduled Go On episode for tonight a Halloween episode?

  • Greg

    They’ll probably burn off the last episodes of Animal Practice on some random Friday. NBC have been only airing reruns at 8 anyway.

    @Mr Mumble

    Well, in that case, all they had to do is air two episodes of 30 Rock in a row in January. Parks and Recreation could take a week off.

    Makes no sense. 30 Rock on Thursday isn’t past the elections. I was gunna watch Animal Practice!

    The average distance from Halloween for Halloween-themed episodes is shockingly high. :)

    Except that NBC is airing The Voice on Thursday. And next Wednesday. And next Thursday.

    This was really the only way they could air the episode anytime remotely close to the election.

    I don’t think it matters if they aired it after the election or not. It’s 30 Rock. It’s going to get the same middling rating on Nov. 1 or 8th. Should have saved it for its Nov 8

    Ultima, Thefutoncritic shows NBC airing the comedies on 11/8

    Two better options:

    11/1: Knock Rock Center out of the way and put on 30 Rock at 10pm

    11/8: They aren’t airing the 8pm hour, but are airing the 9pm comedy hour. Easily coulda knocked Rock Center off that night and put 30 Rock and Up All Night.
