TV Ratings Monday: 'The Voice', 'Castle' & 'Dancing With the Stars' Up Double Digits, 'Revolution' Down as Hurricane Sandy Wreaks Havoc With the TV Schedule

Note: Due to Hurricane Sandy, Fast Affiliate Ratings for Monday include more pre-emptions than usual and are likely impacted by power outages. Take all of these numbers with a grain of salt! It is unknown when Final National numbers for Monday night will be released.Last night’s Monday Night Football game (49ers/Cardinals) was simulcast on the CBS affiliate in San Francisco. As a result, the CBS numbers may be a bit inflate from 8-9PM and subject to more than typical adjustments in the finals.

NBC was number one with adults 18-49, while ABC won with total viewers.

On NBC, The Voice earned a 5.0 rating, up 16%  from a 4.3 for last week’s one-hour episode. Revolution scored a 3.1 down 6% from a 3.3 for its last episode on October 15.

On ABC, Dancing with the Stars scored a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating up 13% from a 2.4 for last week’s 1 hour episode. Castle earned a season high 2.7 adults 18-49 rating up 35% from a 2.0 on October 15.

On CBS, the special Super Storm Sandy  garnered a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    They are out in force today when everyone knows the reported ratings for today are meaningless. Even the Nets are taking all the results with a grain of salt (and I will include finals).

    As soon as CBS and CW pulled their shows yesterday, everyone knew the ratings today would have a big “asterisk” next to it.

    The mean nothing.

    Yeah Castle is such a disappointment that it has gone on to five seasons(in a slot that ABC couldn’t get a show to hold ratings until Castle),syndication,best selling books and strong DVD sales.Poor ABC must just be kicking themselves for that. Troll logic is funny.

    @Traywana- I may be out of touch with YOUR reality and that is a good thing. I’ll stick to the actual performance of the show not a personal dislike of a show to base my own opinion on. I dislike shows like The Voice, but then again I cannot dispute its a ratings magnet and yet I don’t bash its success.

    Don’t really understand why Castle fans are getting excited by these ratings…they are incredibly inaccurate(as is the case for all the ratings last night)…?

    Emma-I think any rational Castle fan knows they are inflated, but then again WooHoo! I expect a drop and even if its not large, the next week will bring it back into its current usual ratings for this season the low 2’s. That will feed the trolls and their excitement will be equally non-rational.
