    Covert Affairs was pretty good this week. I like that one of the main issues involved Kari Matchett, my favorite character on the show. Next week promises to be even better as all the conflicts appear to heat up.

    The one part of this week’s episode that jarred me – and provides support for the notion that the show curries favor with the CIA – was the “there’s no collateral damage” crap. There are several studies that show that drone strikes produce significant collateral damage. Worse, given the “rules of engagement” that declare “every able bodied male in the vicinity” as a legitimate target, these rules guarantee massive collateral damage. In fact, the studies show the vast majority of dead bodies are civilians. So it’s disingenuous to say something like that.

    OTOH, the writers are probably correct that it’s the way people in the CIA think, so it was probably a “realistic” line for the characters to say. It would have been nice to show visually that it wasn’t true, however.

    All in all, the show has been getting better in my view. Piper’s performance and her character’s development has been more adult and less “innocent” than before. Thinning out the cast – losing the sister, Jay, etc. – has been good for the show, letting it become more intense and focused.

    NBA is killing MLB right now.

    MLB should start focusing on superstars like the NBA does. Nobody can focus on teams better than the NFL or college football.
