Featuring a First-Ever Visit by David Letterman, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live”
Delivers its Best Young Adult Rating Since June

Wednesday’s Telecast Draws “JKL’s” Biggest Audience on the Night in its 10 Years

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” (M-F 12:00 a.m.)

Featuring a first-time appearance by Jimmy Kimmel’s idol, David Letterman, on Wednesday (10/31/12), ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” delivered its highest-rated telecast in Adults 18-49 (985,000) on any night since June – since 6/19/12. In fact, excluding June’s NBA-finals led broadcasts, Wednesday’s telecast was the show’s strongest among young adults in nearly 1 year – since 11/22/11.

  • In addition, it was “JKL’s” most-watched Wednesday telecast in its 10-year history (2.355 million) and its top-rated on the night among Adults 18-49 in 5 years -- since 10/24/07.

I would consider people in their 30’s and 40’s young adults anymore though….
A lot of “young” people say in their 20’s don’t like Letterman so it probably wasn’t them watching. It’s still surprising to me that the ratings went up that much for Letterman because a lot of people don’t find him funny at all and you can see him every night anyway. I guess people were interested just because he was on another talk show that is on at the same time….I did watch because I like Jimmy but Letterman was pretty boring.

Wasn’t this Jimmy’s first show in NYC since Sandy? That may have had something to do with the rating.

I think it may have been quite a lot of David Letterman’s crowd tuning in. By the time his interview began after the monologues etc. it was probably about 12:30 so his show would have just been concluding so they would have switched over to see him be interviewed since it doesn’t happen often.

The only reason Letterman went on Jimmy Kimmel was to campaign for Obama.

I knew about it because Letterman said he had to go do Kimmel’s show after his taping. It was like 12:24.

Chelsea Handler was on Conan last night.

Ralph Hahn said “The only reason Letterman went on Jimmy Kimmel was to campaign for Obama.”

That was just a bonus. The real reason Letterman went on Kimmel’s show was to feel Kimmel’s warm lips on his tuchus.

I watched the show only because Letterman was on. I guess I wasn’t alone.

I wonder what the ratings would be if David Letterman appeared on the Leno show or vice versa?
