Update: Last Man Standing's season premiere drew a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating and 7.84 million viewers and the series premiere of Malibu Country scored a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating and 8.9 million viewers in the preliminary Nielsen numbers

Tonight ABC is attempting to bring back the glory days of its 1980s and 1990s  TGIF line-up of family friendly multi-camera comedies with the premieres of Last Man Standing and Malibu Country. Can Tim Allen and Reba fill the Olsen Twins tiny shoes? Was it a bad idea to move the night's biggest hit Shark Tank to 9PM?

Last season, Last Man Standing premiered to a strong 3.6 adults 18-49 rating on Tuesday October 11, 2011. The ratings for the May 8, 2012 season finale fell to a 1.7 among adults 18-49.

Reba is a popular actress whose previous sit-com on the WB, Reba, made it to syndication. But ABC's other country music themed show, Nashville, has been a mediocre performer despite a ton of promotion. The lower ratings for last night's CMA Awards don't seem like a good omen.

Make your predictions then explain your reasoning in the comments.

  • Greg

    Last Man Standing – 1.6
    Malibu Country – 1.8

  • Michael

    Last Man Standing- 1.5

    Malibu Country- 1.3

    Damn, I’m aiming low lol…

  • Survivor Fan

  • Nick

    1.6-1.7 for Last Man Standing
    1.4-1.5 for Mailbu Country

  • John A

I think its a mistake moving Shark Tank. It would be a decent lead in for these comedies if they aired at 9pm.

  • Liam

Im aiming for a 1.8 – 1.9 region. I dont want to aim to high, but I would love a 2.0 to a 2.2 but I dont think it will get that.

I really hope Malibu Country does really well, love Reba McEntire and I hope the show last a few seasons.

  • MJDB

    @John A

Yeah, I don’t know why they didn’t just do that. Actually, if it was up to me, I would’ve put them after Dancing With the Stars and Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 after Shark Tank, because LMS and MC seem to be older skewing along with DWT, while HE and DTTBIA2 seem to be younger skewing along with ST.

  • Anon

    Thanks for the poll.

ABC has promoted the hell out of these: 2.0 each

  • Kavyn

Why wouldn’t they put these shows after Shark Tank for the lead in?

  • Jeremy

I hope Malibu Country does well although I don’t expect anything much.
    Last Man Standing 1.8
    Malibu Country 1.9

I agree. After DWTS would have made tons more sense. Or even like @Kavyn AFTER Shark Tank. Guess that’s why I don;t run a network. They must see something I don’t HA!

  • Oliver

Both shows were commissioned with the express intention of bringing back TGIF.

It’s much easier to launch shows on Tuesday than on Friday. Even with HE/A23 struggling on Tuesday, if the TGIF block takes off then it’s a good long-term strategic decision.

  • John A

Plus this might end up hurting Shark Tank. Those comedies could easily bomb.

  • still good shows

    1.8 for LMS
    2.0 for Malibu Country

    I’m hoping for higher ratings.

  • Ram510

Well they can’t do much worse than Happy Endings and Apt 23 did this week.

But I think Reba can grow out of LMS

  • Vcoolwater

Reba has a huge fan following. Her episode of who do you think are was ratings high for the now cancel series. I think Malibu country will premiere well.

  • Baqinardo

Why ABC wont put it after Shark Tank, the only reason that i can think of is bcoz all 9PM shows are scripted. Shark Tank will be fine (i guess).
And at 8PM all shows are reality shows. The comedies will have no competition (from scripted shows). And also Shark Tank will have Undercover Boss if it’s still at 8.

    My prediction, 2.0 both.

  • Bee

i’m hoping MC breaks a 2.0. but given how terrible this ratings season is for almost everyone except the voice, i’ll go with 1.5-1.8 for both. anything under 1.5 is a disappointment for both.

  • MJDB

At first Mailbu Country sounded interesting, but then after watching a syndicated rerun of That ’70s Show on ABC Family, a rerun of Reba came on, I saw two minutes of it and was mortified by how bad and corny it was. I’ll just be watching Last Man Standing tonight.

  • J.G.

    Last Man Standing 1.7
    Malibu Country 2.1
    Shark Tank 1.9

  • Flame

    Hoping for a 2.0 each.
