Update: Last Man Standing's season premiere drew a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating and 7.84 million viewers and the series premiere of Malibu Country scored a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating and 8.9 million viewers in the preliminary Nielsen numbers

Tonight ABC is attempting to bring back the glory days of its 1980s and 1990s  TGIF line-up of family friendly multi-camera comedies with the premieres of Last Man Standing and Malibu Country. Can Tim Allen and Reba fill the Olsen Twins tiny shoes? Was it a bad idea to move the night's biggest hit Shark Tank to 9PM?

Last season, Last Man Standing premiered to a strong 3.6 adults 18-49 rating on Tuesday October 11, 2011. The ratings for the May 8, 2012 season finale fell to a 1.7 among adults 18-49.

Reba is a popular actress whose previous sit-com on the WB, Reba, made it to syndication. But ABC's other country music themed show, Nashville, has been a mediocre performer despite a ton of promotion. The lower ratings for last night's CMA Awards don't seem like a good omen.

Make your predictions then explain your reasoning in the comments.

I hope these shows do well, because I do miss TGIF Fridays.
I personally would watch Happy Endings/Apt 23 on Fridays, but I’m not sure many other people would especially considering how younger skewing they both are.

    1.4-1.5 for each I’m guessing

Last Man Standing….because of the political episode and the casting change….I think it might hurt the season 2 premier….I predict 1.3 rating….and for Malibu Country 1.6….

  • tv_viewer

    Chuck’s season 4 premiere on a Monday had a 2.0 rating. But Chuck’s season 5 premiere on a Friday only had a 1.0 rating.

Last Man Standing had a 3.6 rating for its season 1 premiere on a Tuesday. I’m predicting that Last Man Standing will have 50% of the pilot rating for its season 2 premiere on a Friday: 1.8 rating.

Malibu Country appears to be compatible with Last Man Standing so I expect Malibu Country to get a 1.9 rating for its series premiere.

I haven’t watch Last Man Standing since the middle of last season, with that being said I thought the recast decision of the oldest daughter was not a good move. They should have just removed her character entirely, because the new actress adds nothing to the role. The political storyline was a huge turn off too.

I have not seen Reba, but her new show has promise. She plays very well off of Sara Rue and Lily Tomlin. I think both shows will come in between 1.5-2.0.

Not interested in Reba’s new show. Don’t like her singing and her acting isn’t any better (I did see a couple of episodes of Reba…don’t know why). As for Last Man Standing, I don’t know how it survived season 1. I just read they replaced the actress who plays the oldest daughter. What they need to do is replace the wife. Nancy Travis is as boring as all get out; she and Tim Allen have ZERO chemistry. That is the main reason why I’m not watching LMS. Also, the show really isn’t very funny. It’s really just another Home Improvement…with daughters. I loved Home Improvement, but can’t watch this sad attempt of a comedy program.

“why are the numbers so high for friday shows?”

    Delusion?

    Last Man Standing: 1.8
    Malibu Country: 2.0
    Shark Tank: 1.9
    20/20: 1.4

    Undercover Boss: 1.5
    CSI: New York: 1.5
    Blue Bloods: 1.6

    America’s Next Top Model: 0.5
    Nikita: 0.2

    Kitchen Nightmares: 1.0
    Fringe: 1.0

Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together telethon: 1.3
    Grimm: 1.6
Dateline special (Revolution was supposed to air but I saw Dateline. I’m going to assume it was preempted nationally): 1.4

    Networks-
    1. ABC: 1.7
    2. CBS: 1.5
    3. NBC: 1.4
    4. Fox: 1.0
    5. CW: 0.4

I liked both shows last night.
A poll on how Shark Tank at 9 pm will affect Grimm, Nikita, amd Fringe would’ve gotten more page views, though.

  • Joe

    Last Man Standing: 1.4
    Malibu Country: 1.5

Reba has a devoted audience surrounding her, so I think it’ll build on LMS, which I don’t expect to do much. It was barely hanging on to a 1.6 during the spring on Tuesdays.

Both will probably get respectable viewership numbers though, not that it matters.

  • Joe

And yeah, barring a miracle, LMS is not getting near a 2.0…

  • Networkman

    Last Man Standing 2.0
    Malibu Country 2.2
    Shark Tank 1.9

  • Networkman

I loved the political episode of Last Man Standing. I thought it was appropriate to air at this moment because the country is gearing up for an election. I also was happy that the show was not being politically correct. Viewers were able to hear both sides of the argument for each canidate. I would love to see comedies with characters that have strong beliefs and see characters that challenge each other than all this fluff that is on nowadays. Comedies need to begin to deal with real society issues in a funny way just like the comedies in the 70’s.

    Last Man Standing- 1.9
    Malibu Country- 2.1

Love boy Reba and Tim Allen! Hope they do great! :)
Definitely think they might do better with a lead in though. Let’s hope for the best.

  • the_trouble_with_the_truth

MALIBU COUNTRY WILL HAVE THE HIGHEST DEMO OF ALL SHOWS ON FRIDAY! HANDS DOWN, THIS I KNOW FOR SURE!

  • Tim Howard

LMS had its best episode to date that political episode was awesome, didn’t like all the changes but the episode was hilarious.

Reba has a nice start I really liked Sara Rue’s character in this she bounced off of Reba well and so did Lily Tomlin.

Glad to see original comedies back on Fridays, I hope they do super numbers in the morning.

  • Jon

Malibu Country was very weak. I don’t think it’s going to last long.

  • Darcy

Looking on Facebook people HATED Last Man Standing’s episode and many didn’t make it the whole way through, so next week is it’s big test. I think that both will get from a 1.8 upwards, with Reba definitely getting over 2.0 because it’s the very first episode.

  • Seagate

@ Darcy: People didn’t really hated the episode itself for Last Man Standing it was all of the changes that pissed people off like getting rid of the oldest daughter Alexandra Krosney. That move pissed me off too but the episode itself was decent.

  • JJ

I’m probably aiming a little high, but I am thinking 2.4 for MC and 1.9 for LMS.
