GH is awesome and must see tv. Thank you Frank and Ron for making us want to tune in everyday again. I hope Lucy stays and Mac and Felicia are given more air time. I really like how we are seeing more of Monica and Tracy. They are like the Vicki and Dorian of OLTL. I really likeTodd and Carly and the infuse of OLTL characters. If Alan cant come back alive, lets have Clint come over and have there be a Monica, Clint and Tracy triangle! Hopefully Laura will show up for the 50 th anniversary! And lets hope Natiile comes by for a visit when John and Sam heat up, that will be sure Drama. I am sure GH will continue to grow in ratings and Y & R will go down, with Jill in control. Great job to all at GH!

  • Amanda

@donald accolla “greg vaughan as eric brady is awesome”

Seriously??? He’s the most wooden actor I’ve ever seen in my life.

  • James

    I love this.

  • PITT

GH is definitely on fire right now!

It’s gonna take sometime for them to beat Y&R in viewership or households but they’ll eventually get Y&R in the demo probably by February sweeps.

GH needs to focus in on beating B&B which has been way consistent first.

  • LynTX

I am a recent soap viewer (last 2 yrs) but have researched histories to include ratings. The ratings over the past year have been up one week and down the next. While exceeding last year, (in some weeks) #s/gains, to include demo #s, are not substantial. I’m just trying to understand everyones take on current ratings.

Shouldn’t there be sustained/week over week increases, across the board before we celebrate? No negatives intended – just trying to understand.

  • Chrisann D

Lyn, I see your point but to me what matters is the increase over the year before. I wonder if next weeks soaps will be down dramatically because of Sandy. I would think with the storm it can’t be good since some of those poor people still don’t have power. I agree I will be celebrating when GH has months of steady increases. (Which I really believe will happen)But I don’t care what daytime soap it is I want them all to gain viewers. I know it sounds cheesy but they have been a part of so many peoples entertainment for many years I just want them to be around for more generations to enjoy.

  • LynTX

    Chrisann –
Nothing cheesy about loving soaps and acknowledging that they are p/o our collective lives. I agree!

I just feel/wish that improvement in viewership would reflect sustained increases based on overall improvement of our soaps; where diehard fans, lapsed and new viewers are once again invested – not plot points/events that result in momentary ticks up or down. (From a business perspective, hard to budget based on constant fluctuation in the #s.)
I know, I should take off the rosy glasses….. :)

  • ebarryhill

To all the GH haters….. keep hating as long as you keep watching and giving those ratings.

I have watched Days for at least 50 something years, always has been my favorite, but this whole gay thing with two men kissing and having sex is beyond ridiculous. If thats what people want, thats fine, but keep it private, I and many many of my friends that have watched Days will no longer tune in. We are being expected to accept such behavior as normal, its not and if your ratings drop it will be because you have pushed away probably your most loyal fans. Somethings are acceptable, this is not. If you think catering to the gay crowd is your salvation, I dont think so, our generation truly stood by this soap for years and now its been taken to a level that is not worthy of what it use to be. All I can say is shame on who ever destroyed a good thing.

  • cb

    @ Donald

As a gay male watcher of Both DAYS and GH (formerly only OLTL in recent years, but I have dabbled with GH and DAYS on and off for 20 years), I am so happy for both shows showing such artistic and creative success. Why do you need to tear down GH to pump up DAYS? The OLTL team coming into GH has proven to be a successful move, as it has been showing in the ratings. ABC is trying to find a way to keep their last remaining soap on the air in this day of skyrocketing production costs, just like DAYS is hanging on at NBC. With all soaps futures on shaky ground, I’d hope soap fans would spend a little less time tearing down the shows they don’t watch and instead just show as much support for the one(s) they do. I even hope Y&R and B&B stay strong and DAYS and GH rise up to meet them, even though I have never seen a single episode of either Soap. With less soaps on the air, the remaining soaps will have an increasingly more difficult time continuing in the world of cheap reality TV and talk shows. Now if you will excuse me, I am off to watch Project Runway… :-)

I have to say I am shocked to read your comment. I feel very a great deal of sadness for you and your group of friends

Michael and Sonny’s relationship represents millions of people in this world. Why should we only show relationships with people who appeal to you and your group of friends on television. You and your friends are not the only group of people who watch this show (and you are certainly not the target demographic for advertisers). Also, do you know how many gay people are responsible for an episode of Days of Our Lives (or ANY TV show) making it to your living room every day? From Writers, Directors, Actors, Technicians, Editors, Hair, Makeup, Crew etc… The entertainment industry is full of gay people. If you have that kind of problem with gays, I would suggest you avoid all forms of entertainment…except maybe monster truck, we gays probably don’t have much of a presence there. TV, Movies, Theatre, Magazines, Journalism

You think DAYS will push away their MOST LOYAL fans with a kiss? Those fans must not be too loyal. There is so much violence on TV, rape, abuse, bullying etc, I’d much rather see 2 people kissing, no matter who they are.

You say they are destroying DAYS because there are gay characters on the show? How close minded could you possibly be? There are gay people all around, and you know what? We don’t see ourselves as gay people… we are people. We breathe the same air you do. We pay taxes to the same taxes to governments. We drink from the same water fountains (you haven’t caught the Gay yet.. have you?.. Oh Good! I was worried that I might have given it to you..)

I would hope that people who are generations older than I am at 33, (you said you have watched for 50 years…), would be able to see how far we have come with accepting people who are not just like you in this country. (Notice how I didn’t say different.. because there is nothing different between straights and gays besides who we are born to love. A generation who lived though affirmative action and the fight for gender and racial equality must have learned something from the mistakes of the past. That hatred and exclusion are NEVER the answer. Love and Acceptance are.

I wish you peace and happiness in your life. That you are surrounded by people who love and accept you for who you are, and who don’t show you the same hatred you exhibit towards others because of who they are.

    GH sucks

  • MMM

I’m not surprised that Y&R ratings are falling. This show has zero balance! Do the writers really believe that people are interested in the Adam- Nick- Victor – Chelsea – Show ! no tthanks! Michael Muhney and Joshua Morrow should be taking acting lessons instead of playing a front character on a soap. If the writers continue like this CBS won’t renew their contract in 2013 and Y&R will be history

  • Still miss KISH !!

I actually feel badly for anyone who has watched 50 years of DAYS – that cannot accept Will and Sonny.

In 50 YEARS – this viewer has accepted Marlena being possessed by the Devil and Stefano coming “back from the dead” at least five times – this viewer has accepted multiples of men in & out of Sammy Brady’s bed for the last ten years – BUT – this viewer cannot accept the fact that two men could actually fall deeply and meaningfully in love with each other – with sexual relations being a natural outcome of those feelings – as Will and Sonny have.

I believe that says much about this viewer’s personal character – but more importantly – it says more about this viewer’s lack of heart and compassion for others.

  • Chrisann D

Susan, I (being of the baby boomer generation) am embarrassed by your comment. Please read and reread Cbs response to you.He was so kind to you when I am not sure I would have been. Someone posted on here that they thought being gay was wrong in the eyes of the church so she believed it was wrong too. She also went on to say that a man from her church was gay and chose to remain celibate. How sad. Not only was he going to live his life alone. He was not going to experience love or forming a family with someone he loves. The church has changed their views on many many bigoted ideals. Hopefully soon they will wake up and realize that EVERYONE has the right to find happiness and love. IMO I think showing a same sex couple on tv is a very good thing. Expecially for people that have a hard time accepting it. It gives you and I chance to see that everyone is the same and should have the same rights. Why should anyone have a problem with two people loving and caring for each other?

  • Rodney

To Shelly: Just curious, what do you see or not see in Y&R that makes you feel that is a mess? Being a writer myself, I would LOVE to hear your imput.

  • Dimitrios

I remember GH tried a gay storyline, too bad it didn’t work out. Bobbie’s son Lucas (Carly’s brother) came out and had a relationship. I forgot the actors name but he went on to Desperate Housewives in the early seasons.

I can only comment on Y&R and DOOL. First off Y&R is plan terrible. It has been on a downward path for years now and still I see no sign of anything getting better. The new writers have just begun, so we will see what they are going to do. I really do not believe they will make things better. None of the daytime soaps that I have watched over the years ever really gotten back to being thoroughly good once they started to slip. No continuity, bad acting, bad recasts, bad writing, etc. DOOL is a better show in my opinion, as far as quality, but not by much. It is suffering from the same syndrome. Get it together soaps!

@Susan, you must be living in an alternate universe judging by your callous, bigoted, narrowminded, intolerant, hateful, dubious statements regarding the LGBT community being represented on Days. @CB has it right…you rock, CB! By the way, Susan, I don’t know what you were watching 50 years ago when you “dreamed” you were watching Days, but it wasn’t Days as Days has only been on 47 years! LOL! Get your facts “straight,” gal, and get your mind opened! I absolutely adore the Will/Sonny love story that is beautifully blossoming before our eyes! Bring it on! I’ve watched Days from the very beginning and continue to revel in its superior performances/writing/production!

Congrats Days on your increasing Women 18-49 viewership! Days is the best soap on tv and is absolutely spectacular! And I too agree that the actor returning as Eric Brady is a gifted performer and a delight to watch. Go Days!
