CBS's Hit Freshman Drama, Which Provides a Modern Take On Sherlock Holmes,

 Receives Coveted Post-Super Bowl Slot

CBS announced today that its hit freshman drama ELEMENTARY, which provides a modern take on Sherlock Holmes in New York City, will receive the coveted post-Super Bowl slot.   A special episode of ELEMENTARY will be broadcast following CBS Sports' coverage of SUPER BOWL XLVII, Sunday, Feb. 3  (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/7:00-8:00 PM, PT, time approximate after post-game coverage).

ELEMENTARY, which has won its Thursday (10:00-11:00 PM) time period in key ratings measures in every broadcast against regularly scheduled programming this season, is averaging 14.2 million viewers, 4.6/11 in adults 25-54 and  3.5/10 in adults 18-49.  ELEMENTARY ranks as the #2 new series on television this season, only slightly behind CBS’ VEGAS (14.5 million viewers).

The series has also opened strong in international markets.  ELEMENTARY is the number one new series in Canada, airing on the Global Network, where it wins its time period in viewers and key demographic categories.  In the UK, ELEMENTARY ranks as Sky Living's third highest rated series since 2002, and the top-rated launch of a drama acquisition in the channel's history.

ELEMENTARY stars Jonny Lee Miller as eccentric, mischievous detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson, a former surgeon turned sober companion.  Following his fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab, Sherlock escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare – a sobriety coach.  Now running free in New York solving crimes, it’s simple deduction that he’s going to need someone to keep him grounded, and it’s elementary that it’s a job for Watson.

Also, Aidan Quinn stars as Capt. Thomas Gregson, who knows from previous experience working with Scotland Yard that Sherlock is brilliant at closing cases, along with Jon Michael Hill, who portrays Det. Marcus Bell, a top-notch investigator who is initially skeptical of Holmes and his unorthodox methods.

Robert Doherty, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly and Craig Sweeny are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

Good Luck to Elementry, its a good show hopefully this will give it the boost it needs.

  • Rob3008

What if its ratings plummet between now and the time of the Super Bowl? Has a post-Super Bowl programme even been announced and then changed?

  • omabin

i did not see this coming. I thought it was for sure between two broke girls and person of interest. I have my doubts about this but we shall see. They better hope elementaryd doens’t fall to vegas levels until then, or else they will give the biggest lead in of television to a flop show

  • Ultima

It s going to get the worse rating ever for a post super bowl show!

It’s very unlikely to do worse than the abysmal 17.4 million viewers and 8.2 adults 18-49 rating that Alias put up in 2003.

Threat level orange. Petar meltdown imminent.

And the year after this is new girl….

  • Max Vrany

No sense waiting for Bill or Robert. 33.7 million viewers and an 11.3 in A18-49

  • AniMatsuri

Makes sense trying to get even more viewers for their freshman hit. Just like they did with H50 a few years back.

  • Kyle

The Big Bang Theory or even maybe the series finale (hopefully) of 2 and a Half Men would be a better option.

  • sharoth

Hmm, I´m surprised. I think they should have taken POI instead. POI ha proven itself and could gain a lot from it, while Elementary is a wild card. No one knows if it does good enough until the superbowl.

TBBT doesn´t need a boost, its ratings are stellar. 2BG could have been another wise move though I don´t care about that show.

  • MJDB

That is exceptional news. I love this show very much, and I hope that it gets the major boost it needs, even though it’ll still get renewed with the numbers it has now.

  • POI

Elementary doesnt deserve this i wish they would put POI or something else there cuz elementary is boring and will fall down later on.

  • Ultima

Hmm I wonder, has a show that’s aired after the Super Bowl ever been canceled in the same season?

The last time that happened was ABC’s Extreme in 1995 (it didn’t even finishing airing all of its episodes).

  • s0303

this makes sense since it’s their top rated new show, but i would probably have put 2 broke girls since it is trying to anchor mondays…sorry to poi fan, but that wouldn’t have been a good idea…it’s in the second season and the ratings are fine for that time slot..it isn’t really one of the shows that needs a big boost in the ratings…

Threat level orange. Petar meltdown imminent.

  • Petar Ivanov

So CBS have best quality drama(all critics agree) and will pick this crap…………no words.

Hope collapse till SB and everybody laugh at tham.

According to deadline only reson CBS pick this crap is that the true hit shows 2BG and POI are WB shows. SHAME.

  • Liam

I agree with a lot of you, 2 Broke Girls should get the spot. Its a comedy that is really good but people dismiss it.
I was thinking The Big Bang Theory but it already is doing very well. Bu a boost would do it well.

Comedies would do better in this spot than to serialized drama. We will have to wait and see how well it does between now and then.

  • CrimTV

CBS! You should’ve put 2 Broke Girls after it! It is dying with it’s lead-in and putting it after the superbowl would increase it’s ratings and popularity, Elementary is doing fine on Thursdays, so it doesn’t need an extra push.

  • John A

Why 2 Broke Girls? Its doing fine as it is. Elementary needs the help more.

  • Petar Ivanov

@Threat level orange. Petar meltdown imminent.

Well if all critics opinion is that PoI is best quality drama and best CBS drama from years example how a drama should be written and acted with best script and CBS pick some crap only for money reasons its shame for tham.

Elementary WILL COLLAPSE and super bowl won’t save it. Next year POI and 2BG will be with better ratings than Elementary. And CBS will look like clowns.
