Definitions:
DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.
Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.
Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate
Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

These numbers are telling. Viewership declines are not as steep as the live ratings allude to. People are just watching them on delay more often. Big shocker there. Commercials are for suckers.
Damn, TVD is almost at a 2.0!
Nice for Grimm and Scandal, but more people have to watch live.
Revenge :O
TomSFBay, so how do you propose the expenses be paid if not via commercials? Someone (who you’d likely call a sucker) has to pay the bill for you to enjoy free programming at your leisure.
“These numbers are telling. Viewership declines are not as steep as the live ratings allude to.”
Who is alluding to what? And where is that alluding happening?
In the first five weeks of the season (3 weeks of Live+7 Day, 2 weeks of Live+Same Day), CBS is down 18%, Fox is down 24% and ABC is down 7%. As the season progresses, the ratio of Live+7 Day to Live+Same Day in the averages will increase.
On a week to week comparison basis, the CW is way down too, but comparisons of their season ratings average to last year are hopelessly hosed because of the late start of their shows this season.
Happy Endings?
So Arrow and Supernatural aren’t pulling big DVR numbers. That’s interesting because Supernatural pulled high +7s for years. Right now we are on a week where the ratings were fairly high. I wonder what will happen down the line.
Go Nashville! Big gains. Wish people would watch live but it seems to get bigger gains than most. Maybe that will help a little?
I also noticed that Arrow is nowhere to found on any of the lists above. I guess that leads me to believe the audience Arrow does have are pretty steady as far as watching the series live.
I also noticed that Hart of Dixie’s demo rises to a 0.9 once live+7 data is included. Not huge numbers by any means but I don’t see the CW cancelling the series after this season like so many people are suggesting.
This was the week before HE premiered.
No surprise 30 Rock is getting hammered in the Thursday 8pm death slot.
Yet again Monday at 10PM continues to be the most DVR hour of the week.
All 3 10PM shows gained more than 3M viewers and more than 9/10s on the demo.
Castle +1 demo 3.621m Viewers
H50 +.9 demo 3.034m Viewers
Revol +1.9 demo 4.099m Viewers
total +3.8 demo and 10.754m Viewers
Clearly this is the most competitive 10PM spot.

Does these rating gains play big part in whether a show is renewed or not? I am curious becuase with Live+7 Dvr rating, Nashville is tied with CSI for first place.
I think there are a lot worse performers right now that the CW is looking at.
Hart of Dixie is stable and kept everyone who watched from season 1. I think it is performing decently.
@Andrew
Since the triangle from hell will become the quad from hell. I am predicting some frustrated viewers will turn off their television in the Spring and not turn back on. I am expecting ratings to drop.
Hart of Dixie will continue be a toss up for entire season.
Even with seven days Nikita couldn’t rate above a .5. Not good.
If Live+7D where Live ratings how happy will be networks?
I would love to see season to date Live+7DVR numbers for the new shows. That is such a better indicator than live TV numbers. You can’t look at only live TV anymore. Few people watch it live anymore. Technology has changed that.
@Devin, a better indicator of what?
BTW, all ratings on our site and pretty much everywhere else in public contain DVR viewing until 3am on the airdate. Which is about half of all measured DVR viewing.
