Reagan two terms
Bush Jr. two terms
Bush Sr. somewhat moderate but oh yeah he lost his re-election bid.
I wonder how Rush and Hannity are dealing with another Obama victory.
It’s it amazing that with millions and millions of people listening to and watching Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, The Five, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Laura Lingraham, Dick Morris, Karl Rove, Donald Trump, etc., that America said no to the Republican Party and voted for a Liberal – again.
List for me all the great moderates that took over the House. We didn’t control the house for forty years.
Oh yeah Gingrich engineered the take over of the house. He’s a conservative.
We need more moderates so we can be in the minority forever and just give up any principals we ever had. We need more moderates so we can give the left what they want and stay out of the way. Why should conservatives vote at all if they are getting liberal Republican.
Thanks but no thanks the idea is stupid!
Reagan would be considered a Moderate in today’s time.
In the post Cold War world the Dems have won 4 Presidential elections and the GOP has won two. All of the Dem victories were electoral landslides and the GOP ones were single state wins with even an electoral/popular split.
Just something to think about.
@ Pete S,
“Guess sometimes you have to experience things first hand for some real truth. But yeah, it was fema under bush so, Bad fema ’05, Bad!”
Refresh my memory, how long did it take for the Bush government to respond in New Orleans ??
AP,
I thought Reagan won in a landslide.
Some on the right would even consider Reagan a Liberal and a Socialist if he were around today.
Papa
I you don’t think the Republican party is going to have at the very least a minor shift to the left, particuarly on social issues and immigration reform. I am afraid you are mistaken.
It is one thing for ultra conservative Republicans to win regionalized House seats. It is another thing entirely to win statewide offices like Senator and Governor and a national office like the Presidency.
Bush II was hardly the most conservative candidate in 2000 although his Vice Presidential candidate……
Bobbyv
That was pre-Cold War. When many in the country (rightfully?) considered the Republican party and their defense spending as the most powerful weapon against ‘The Evil Empire”.
Reagen won in a landslide.
Reagen was a conservative then and he would a conservative now.
Republicans have won 5 Presidential elections since 1980. That means we controlled the white House 20 out of the 36 years.
@
Sam
It took about three days to get rescue operations running. It took I believe four days to get food to people. There was also a massive flood.
Sandy is a cold Katrina. People I know said they got in the car and left after no one showed up by day four. They where starting to fear for their lives.
@Papa,
“Oh yeah Gingrich engineered the take over of the house. He’s a conservative.”
That was what … 15 years ago ?!
The country has changes , last night was the biggest, clearest evidence.
The majority of American believe in climate change.
The majority of Americans believe in the woman’s right to choose.
The majority of Americans especially younger Americans believe that corporations should be regulated and play in a fair field.
The majority of Americans believe in the dream act.
The majority of Americans don’t want more wars and more military spending.
The majority of Americans believe in racial and religious tolerance.
The majority of Americans believe in marriage equality.
Conclusion :
The Republican party is outdated !
@SP: Okey dokey then. Gingrich and Santorum and Bachmann all were polling around 15 points worse vs Obama than Romney, but I’m sure running a real conservative is the path to victory. Running a moderate is the only reason it wasn’t a blow out, and if Mitt hadn’t scrambled so hard to make himself look ‘severely conservative’ in the primaries, he should have won. You’re a party that doesn’t learn it’s lessons. BTW, what makes Chris Christie a moderate?
AP,
Is my history way off? I thought the Cold War started after WW 2 and lasted thru the 80′s.
@ Papa,
“Reagen won in a landslide.
Reagen was a conservative then and he would a conservative now.
Republicans have won 5 Presidential elections since 1980. That means we controlled the white House 20 out of the 36 years.”
If Reagan was running last night he would have lost by a landslide too.
America has changed my friend !
America clearly rejected the republicans and the Tea Party
The Tea Part especially took a good jab right in the face.
Reagen Called the Soviet Union the evil Empire and the left freaked. The media and the entertainment people where hysterically saying he was going to drop the bomb.
Instead he brought the evil empire to it’s knees.
I should have said Reagan was a during Cold War candidate, my bad
Nothing else about my previous assertion about the nature of the 4-2 / D Vs. R Presidential elections was in error.
where is suikostinger are you lurking? or did you get tired of posting here?
Reagen would have taken Obama apart. Reagen could cut through the corrupt media when there was no FOX News. Obama if he didn’t have his free propaganda machine he would not have won last night.
Look at the polls at Real Clear the Sunday and Monday of the Storm. Throw out Rass. and you see a picture of a guy gaining. Romney is no Reagen.
Sam,
It’s a moot point but I would not assume Reagan could not have won. We could never prove either way.
