THE CW ANNOUNCES

The Carrie Diaries” SERIES PREMIERE

ON MONDAY, JANUARY 14 (8:00-9:00 PM ET)

“90210” Relocates to 9:00 PM on Mondays

November 8, 2012 (Burbank, CA) – The CW today announced that the new 1980s-era drama, The Carrie Diaries, will have its series premiere on Monday, January 14 (8:00-9:00p.m. ET).

That same night, 90210 will slide to its new 9:00-10:00 p.m. timeslot on Monday.  The week of January 14 will also see the majority of The CW’s primetime series return from the holiday break with all-new original episodes.

The Carrie Diaries takes place in 1984, where life is not easy for 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw.  Since their mother passed away, Carrie’s younger sister Dorritt is more rebellious than ever, and their father Tom is overwhelmed with the responsibility of suddenly having to care for two teenage girls on his own.  Carrie’s friends – sweet, geeky Mouse, sarcastic and self-assured Maggie and sensitive Walt – make life bearable, but a suburban life in Connecticut isn’t doing much to take her mind off her troubles.  And even though the arrival of a sexy new transfer student named Sebastian brings some excitement to Carrie’s world, she is struggling to move on from her grief.  So when Tom offers Carrie the chance to intern at a law firm in Manhattan, she leaps at the chance.  Carrie’s eyes are opened wide at the glamour and grit of New York City – and when she meets Larissa, the style editor for Interview magazine, she’s inspired by the club culture and unique individuals that make up Larissa’s world.  Carrie’s friends and family may have a big place in her heart, but she’s fallen in love for the first time with the most important man in her life – Manhattan.

The series stars AnnaSophia Robb (“Soul Surfer”) as Carrie Bradshaw; Stefania Owen (“Running Wilde,” “The Lovely Bones”) as Dorrit Bradshaw; Ellen Wong (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Combat Hospital”) as Mouse; Katie Findlay (“The Killing,” “SGU Stargate Universe”) as Maggie; Chloe Bridges (“90210”) as Donna; Austin Butler (“Switched At Birth,” “Life Unexpected”) as Sebastian; Brendan Dooling (“An Elf’s Story: The Elf on the Shelf”) as Walt; Freema Agyeman (“Doctor Who,” “Law & Order: UK”) as Larissa and Matt Letscher (“Brothers and Sisters,” “Entourage”) as Tom.

Based on the novels by Candace Bushnell, The Carrie Diaries is from Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, in association with Fake Empire, with executive producers Josh Schwartz (“Hart Of Dixie,” “Gossip Girl”), Stephanie Savage (“Hart Of Dixie,” “Gossip Girl”), Len Goldstein (“Hart Of Dixie”) Amy B. Harris (“Gossip Girl”) and Candace Bushnell.

I hope that the 90210 move means it’s ending after this season

  • Robsten_Fan

    Go Carrie… :)

  • rob60990

The Carrie Diaries would be better off with affiliates lead in than 90210.

  • Oliver

Proof that The CW think 8pm is the better timeslot.

I remain unconvinced that this show will be hit: I believe the 80s setting will put off girls and younger women, and the teen storylines will put off older women. NBC’s critically-acclaimed-but-short-lived Freaks and Geeks struggled for similar reasons.

That said, I’ll be happy if I’m proved wrong.

The fact it’s on The CW is a huge point in its favour, since it means it doesn’t need to be an actual hit, just find a large enough niche audience.

  • Tommy

I’m actually excited about this series. Was never a real fan of the original series, but I’m intrigued by the idea of an 80s set Teen Soap.

  • Oliver

“AnnaSophia Robb”? What sort of person gives their daughter a CamelCase name?!?

  • Oliver

    @Tommy

If you haven’t seen it, watch Freaks and Geeks. It’s on Netflix.

  • Brandy

Julia, maybe but don’t be surprised if its back for a final short season next season cause 1.CW gives veteran shows a announced final season-GG,OTH just had short ones 2.GG ending,Top Model is moved to summer,Emily Owens and Beauty are sure cancellations,& if Cult & CD fail at Midseason, CW will have 4-5 spots to fill at least, the most they can afford to do.
I’m really looking forward to this show, I was a fan of the original series and AnnaSophia is perfectly cast.

  • Alan

Annasophia is really talented, I like a lot of her movies. Will be watching, and the promo makes this show look fun!

  • glover

Now I want to know where they’ll put Cult and what will they put on Emily Owens’ timeslot. I wish they replace it with new episodes of Oh Sit!

  • Alan

I think they will move Beauty and the Beast to Fridays 9/8c so it can die, and Cult will take its slot. Emily Owens will stay where it is.

  • Christian

They should’ve tried getting Sarah Jessica Parker to make a brief cameo in the pilot.. or how cool would it be if she played Carrie’s mom in flashbacks?

  • JJA

They should have put HOD after Carrie Diaries.

90210 should have moved to Tuesday with ANTM.

  • SPM

    Another FLOP no doubt.

Laaaaaaaame idea, Sex & the City fans won’t be interested in this trash.

  • Hadesa

  • Jen

Does the CW often change the time slots of their shows? Because I find it to be somewhat confusing. First everything moved to a new night except TVD then they move Nikita back again and now this. Maybe they planned this(the 8pm slot for TCD) all along or they are really confident in TCD and therefore hope the ratings of 90210 will also rise.(as seen with the Arrow/Supernatural combination)

  • CrimTV

I thought this was going to be a full mid-season post for The CW and see Cult’s premiere date!

  • Brandy

Jen, yes.GG started on Wed but moved to Mon in or before season thre & went from 9 to 8 pm..SPN has been on Thurs,Fri & now Wed.Nikita started on Thurs but moved to Fri& changed times.ANTM was on Wed but now it’s on Fri and regulated to summer.90210 has switched back and forth between Mon and Tues since it started on Tues. They originally planned to use 90210 as CD leadin but it’s ratings are really bad so it wouldn’t be a good leadin,it’s not helping GG now,.

  • POI

this will be boring, when will cult premiere and will it take Beauty and the beast’s timeslot??

  • Kavyn

Smart move consider 90210 is a terrible lead in.
