THE CW ANNOUNCES

The Carrie Diaries” SERIES PREMIERE

ON MONDAY, JANUARY 14 (8:00-9:00 PM ET)

“90210” Relocates to 9:00 PM on Mondays

November 8, 2012 (Burbank, CA) – The CW today announced that the new 1980s-era drama, The Carrie Diaries, will have its series premiere on Monday, January 14 (8:00-9:00p.m. ET).

That same night, 90210 will slide to its new 9:00-10:00 p.m. timeslot on Monday.  The week of January 14 will also see the majority of The CW’s primetime series return from the holiday break with all-new original episodes.

The Carrie Diaries takes place in 1984, where life is not easy for 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw.  Since their mother passed away, Carrie’s younger sister Dorritt is more rebellious than ever, and their father Tom is overwhelmed with the responsibility of suddenly having to care for two teenage girls on his own.  Carrie’s friends – sweet, geeky Mouse, sarcastic and self-assured Maggie and sensitive Walt – make life bearable, but a suburban life in Connecticut isn’t doing much to take her mind off her troubles.  And even though the arrival of a sexy new transfer student named Sebastian brings some excitement to Carrie’s world, she is struggling to move on from her grief.  So when Tom offers Carrie the chance to intern at a law firm in Manhattan, she leaps at the chance.  Carrie’s eyes are opened wide at the glamour and grit of New York City – and when she meets Larissa, the style editor for Interview magazine, she’s inspired by the club culture and unique individuals that make up Larissa’s world.  Carrie’s friends and family may have a big place in her heart, but she’s fallen in love for the first time with the most important man in her life – Manhattan.

The series stars AnnaSophia Robb (“Soul Surfer”) as Carrie Bradshaw; Stefania Owen (“Running Wilde,” “The Lovely Bones”) as Dorrit Bradshaw; Ellen Wong (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Combat Hospital”) as Mouse; Katie Findlay (“The Killing,” “SGU Stargate Universe”) as Maggie; Chloe Bridges (“90210”) as Donna; Austin Butler (“Switched At Birth,” “Life Unexpected”) as Sebastian; Brendan Dooling (“An Elf’s Story: The Elf on the Shelf”) as Walt; Freema Agyeman (“Doctor Who,” “Law & Order: UK”) as Larissa and Matt Letscher (“Brothers and Sisters,” “Entourage”) as Tom.

Based on the novels by Candace Bushnell, The Carrie Diaries is from Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, in association with Fake Empire, with executive producers Josh Schwartz (“Hart Of Dixie,” “Gossip Girl”), Stephanie Savage (“Hart Of Dixie,” “Gossip Girl”), Len Goldstein (“Hart Of Dixie”) Amy B. Harris (“Gossip Girl”) and Candace Bushnell.

PeterMazz, Nikita’s moving back to 8pm and Beauty will move to Tues at 9 or Fri at 9 cause there’s no way CWs gonna premiere a new show on Fri and Cult is going to be after VD,you can bet on it.I don’t know what they’ll put in place of arrow repeats on fri but I expect them to stop airing as CW wants more hours of original programming(they stopped with encores on fri of Top Model a few years ago and Mark has brough more Midseason and summer shows) ,I’m sure CW pick up a cheap filler scripted or reality show to put there.

My prediction for midseason CW schedule.

If they pull Emily Owens, M.D. after 13 episodes -

    Monday:
    Carrie Diaries
    90210

    Tuesday:
    HoD
    BatB

    Wednesday: doesn’t change.

    Thursday:
    TVD
    Cult

    Friday:
    Nikita
    Arrow (R)

If they order a back 9 for EOMD after all -

    Monday:
    Carrie Diaries
    90210

    Tuesday:
    HoD
    EOMD

    Wednesday: doesn’t change.

    Thursday:
    TVD
    Cult

    Friday:
    Nikita
    BaTB

Alternatively, they could keep BaTB where it is and pair Nikita with Cult on Fridays… but while Nikita/Cult seems like a good pairing thematically (both darker, edgier and more male/older skewing than typical CW shows), even the CW wouldn’t be crazy enough to premiere a new show on Friday. Least of all, another genre show that’ll get murdered by Grimm in the Friday 9pm slot just like Nikita.

  • omabin

Yeah, I agree with the previous schedules. Emily Owens will (at least should) be canceled, Beauty will take its spot and die at the end of the season, and Cult will take the post vampire diaries spot.

    Next year:

    Givens:
    - Emily is dead
    - Beauty is dead
    - No America’s Next Top Model

Scenario 1: Cult survives/ Carrie Diaries is axed, so 90210 gets a final season

Scenario 2: Cult is dead/Carrie Diaries survives, so 90210 gets a finals eason

Scenario 3: Cult is renewed/Carrie Diaries is renewed, meaning 90210 does not get a final season

I don’t see a scenario in which both carrie diaries and cult are canceled, because then the cw would have to premiere 4 new shows next year at fall and that just seems unlikely to me. both doing fine is also strange to me, so I guess 90210 will do have a final season, although i would move it to friday if it was up to me. Also, i suppose there is a chance beauty could edge them both out, but it is a very slim one IMO.

I also have to say that even though I like the supernatural arrow pairing as much as anyone else and the cw is probably thrilled with their wednesdays, I think supernatural will have to move again and save monday or tuesday, because otherwise they won’t have ways to launch new shows I think. But we shall see

  • torylicious

    hadesa
    totally agree

  • Jamie

Very smart not to use 9O21O to launch a new show. I’ve been it at 9pm for two seasons.

They should give it a mini-reboot at mid-season, too!

  • Jenny

Could care less about Carrie Diaries. Already know the outcome of everything anyway.

  • erin

Cancel Carrie Diaries because no viewers would watch this programming show on the CW Network

  • glover

Oh God, I really wish this show works out, so as Cult. I also wish Beauty and the Beast stays steady on a new timeslot on midseason (hopefully on Fridays). The CW needs to let 90210, Hart of Dixie and Nikita go. These shows are hurting the network so bad.

  • SJ

Boo! As a Sex and the City fan, I really hate this newest “re-imagining”. I don’t think it will make it past the initial 13 episodes.

  • Zach

Hope this does well. If it can premiere to a 1.0 and stay in the .7-.8 range it will be a hit for the CW. That’s probably too optimistic but i can hope.

@glover Hart of Dixie is not bringing the network down. Its the fourth highest rated show on the network (excluding BATB which is in freefall) Unless it dies hard come spring it will be back next year. But yes 90210 and Nikita need to go for sure. Along with Emily Owens that leaves three slots open for next fall. They probably won’t cancel anything else and if they do it won’t be Hart.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

” Hart of Dixie is not bringing the network down. Its the fourth highest rated show on the network (excluding BATB which is in freefall) “

BATB has beaten or tied Hart of Dixie in adults 18-49 ratings all four weeks that both shows aired.

    Season ratings:

    BATB NA, 1.2, 0.7, 0.6, 0.6
    HoD 0.7, 0.5, 0.6, 0.5, 0.6

Anything could happen to either show in the future (I have both as toss ups), but the idea that HoD is doing better than BATB *to date* is crazy fan nonsense.

  • Brandy

Glover,Nikita Likley will get season four to get 88 episodes for syndication(though I think it should go ) & 90210 most Likley will get a shortened final season like GG,OTH cause it did/does well in DVr,online, iTunes,DVD/merchandise sales,is third highest series premiere on CW,did/does well internationally, and Mark Pedowitz said last spring that the established shows helped keep afloat in 2010-2011 with no hits and plus, more episodes is better for syndication and more money from Netflix(I’m sure 90210 will get a syndication deal) & it’s only the second cw original series to get 100 episodes.Hart of Dixie was renewed last year cause it does well online and is stable ratings wise-still is this season-& currently is doing better than Emily Owens and Nikita ratings wise and before Jan or may be rating better than Beauty too and who knows Cult and Carrie Diaries too.

  • Feddo

Cult should premierre after TVD, especially because of Matt Davis.

  • david

good idea to have this show at 8, shows seem to do better at that hour for the CW.

  • Brandy

Glover, also Hart of Dixie was the third highest rated show for last weeks of the season last season and was doing better in ratings than half of the shows-Ringer,Secret Circle,H8tr,Remodeled,Nikita,La Complex.

  • CrimTV

    @Anthony C

    What about Battle Royale?

  • RyanCanada

i think it will give a much needed bump in the premiere
