Beauty and the Beast just got a back nine order from the CW, making it the second of three freshmen series to get a full season from the network (Arrow was the first). Will this finally take Emily Owens MD off life support?

here's the official release:

November 9, 2012 (Burbank, CA) – The CW picked up a full season of its freshman hit drama BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST stars Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville,” “Chuck”) as Catherine, Jay Ryan (“Terra Nova”) as Vincent, Max Brown (“The Tudors,” “MI-5”) as Evan, Nina Lisandrello (“Nurse Jackie”) as Tess, Nicole Gale Anderson (“Make It or Break It”) as Heather, Austin Basis (“Life Unexpected”) as J.T., and Brian White (“The Shield,” “The Cabin in the Woods”) as Joe.

Last night’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was up 9% in total viewers versus last week, and also grew in all key adult demos week to week. Season to date, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is averaging 2.4 million viewers and a 1.3 rating among women 18-34, and a 0.9 rating among adults 18-34, in most current Nielsen data.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Take 5 Productions/Whizbang Films with executive producers Sherri Cooper (“Brothers and Sisters”) & Jennifer Levin (“Without A Trace,” “Felicity”), Brian Peterson (“Smallville”) & Kelly Souders (“Smallville”), Gary Fleder (“Life Unexpected,” “October Road”), Bill Haber (“Rizzoli & Isles,” “Thurgood”), Paul J. Witt (“A Better Life”) & Tony Thomas (“A Better Life”), Ron Koslow (“Moonlight”),  Frank Siracusa (“The Yard”) and John Weber ("Borgias").

    Just shut up.

“Typical response of someone with nothing better to say.”

@ SPM thank you. lol it wont matter to them anyways. so yeah 3 0.5s and 3 0.6s after 22 epsiodes but its such a bad show.

  • SPM

    @ Nikki

Yup they are clearly lacking in taste and brain power.

  • Holly

I think the TSC fans might actually be more entertaining than TSC

The real reason why this series was picked up is because it has been doing very well on the CWs website. It has been steadily increasing it streams episode after episode and last night went up in the ratings. The CW does think this series has potential and doesn’t want to air as many repeats this season. Emily Owens will finish its 13 episode order but will not get the back 9. The reason why Emily hasn’t been cancelled yet is purely based on the networks love of its star.

No, the real reason it was picked up is that The CW doesn’t have enough midseason shows to cancel GG, Emily Owens, and this show.

What you say makes a lot of sense actually.

Love the show. Awesome news on the pickup for a full season. Hope the CW doesn’t can it after one season as they often do for so many shows.

Not really a surprise with ratings being slightly steady for the last few weeks… and did the CW even have a back up if this show bombed?

I haven’t read the posts yet but I figured B&TB would be picked up for a full season order but that’s zero guarantee of a S2 renewal. I stopped watching after episode 2 because I thought I could put aside my dslike for KK’s acting style but I couldn’t.

EOMD almost certainly won’t get a back 9 and the only non-reality shows for winter-spring replacements that I know of to replace EO are Cult and TCD, with a spot for TCD already planned and advertised on this site (and other TV sites, of course.

i wonder what OTH would be doing for the CW if it were still around…probably at least as well as BaTB a heck of a lot better than EO…just sayin

There are more TSC comments here than BATB. Kinda funny.

Believe it or not, I’m actually happy about this news. I’m enjoying this show, contrary to other people’s thoughts.

@Brandy i agree with you that Mark Pedowits wants to fill the 9 PM hour on Fridays with new programing instead of just having repeats. I am pretty sure that the Arrow repeats are temporary.

  • Brandy

Donna, the only reality shows I know on CW are Top Model-moved to summer-& OhSit and Breaking pointe which will also Likley be summer shows.

Those crazy TSC should relax- The CW is already a flop. The only worthy shows are TVD, Arrow and SPN (quality and ratings wise). I should include Nikita to the quiality category. Elsewhere, anything below a 0.9 is a flop, even on cable networks. So… yes, TSC, Ringer, Dixie, 90210, GG, etc… failures.
SPM and her sock puppets can’t understand it.
PD: The show wasn’t even that good! I don’t get the whole crazyness surrounding it. Not even Nikita fans are that crazy, and that would’ve been understandable :)

I to am not surprised about the full season for Beauty and the Beast. It seems to be steady at a .6 to .8 range so far.

EO:MD might get additional episodes but I’d highly doubt it. It won’t get a back 9. Maybe it will get 3-6 additional to pad out the season if it doesn’t drop below a .5, but I’m guessing it will be 13 and done.

This season Arrow and Supernatural are doing very well. TVD is doing fine. They’ve got midseason shows in the bag and are improving year to year. They don’t have to suffer through the bad ratings this time.

Although, they’re still pretty bad. ;)

BATB needs to end — it will this May. The ‘actors’ on the show are embarrassing. The writing is dreadful. It’s a waste. Hey, it’s got pretty people on it though!

EO has gotten a 0.3 for its last two episodes…

The actors on the show are not embarrassing (yes the dialogue didn’t help in the pilot) but Ryan and Kreuk have awesome chemistry. Each episode really is better than the last which is really saying something. It’s definitely my favorite show right now because it has tons of potential.

It just amazes me that so many people want to comment on a show they don’t give a crap about. I know I don’t bother.

Anyway, yay for Beauty and the Beast! Hopefully, the fans can spread how good it is getting (to this kind of audience obviously) and more viewers will catch on. Going up is always a good thing when it comes to getting a second season.

And @mayorofsmpleton, how do you know this show is a “waste?” Are you watching? Because if so, thanks for the ratings. :) If not (or if you’ve only seen promos or the beginning of the show), then I’m not really sure I find your opinion valid.
