    According to Bill Carter’s Desperate Networks, production companies don’t make significant additional syndication money from episodes above 200. Syndicators see 200 episodes as sufficient for year-round stripped syndication and have contracts that don’t require them to buy any additional episodes over 200.

    In the book, the show in question was Friends. For season 11, Warner stopped subsidising the show and vastly inflated the license fee, burdening the full production costs onto the network.

    *Season 10, sorry.

    @CrimTV:
    “Reality shows are watched by a variety of audiences from sci-fi lovers to drama lovers ”

    Tell that to the drama, Chicago Fire, which barely got a 2.2 even with a huge Voice lead-in.

  • POIFanatic

    @KJ Styles:
    “I’m sad for Last Resort. It’s gonna be the best 1 season show to bite the dust since Freaks and Geeks.”

    Please, watch Awake. That was the only best one season show since Wonderfalls. I love Last Resort, but its just fluff with no real meat.

  • Oliver

    That said, TaaHM is probably attractive to CBS even at full production costs. It only has three highly-paid actors (well, two and a half *cough*), which help keep production costs relatively sensible, and it’s a reliable performer.

    Go TVD, TBBT, TAAHM & Glee :)

  • omabin

    Also i dont even watch glee but reports of the show’s death have been greatly exagerated. It is a survivor seeing that it has to lead-out of the x-factor, which has been flopping really badly (again, i have never watched x factor).

  • Julia

    I wonder if they’d hire Miley as a series regular, or at least give her more episodes as recurring if they renew 2.5men for season 11

    9:01 Person of Interest (CBS) ^ 1.4/4 A18-34

    oh :D

    @CrimTV

    I cannot believe that people are still claiming Once Upon at Time and Revenge are not similar. Excluding the fantasy twist, both shows are serial dramas that have almost exactly the same premise; the tribulations of the characters as they fight back against “evil.” Another major similarities, is that the leading characters on both shows are women which is unusual for a broadcast network channel. Revenge has benefited greatly from being put after a stronger compatible show. However, the fact that ABC started it off after its comedy block on Wednesdays only further proves my point that the network will not worry that SR’s sci-fi show is different from Grey’s when it is scheduled.

    I think X Factor has become more of a hindrance than a help for Glee. Glee is now building upon X Factor in the demo, and is only running slightly lower in terms of total viewers.

    X Factor is a disaster. Surely Britney Spears will be the first to go from the panel as they will no longer be able to afford her, and moreover the ratings do not justify her pay cheque. Demi and Simon are okay, they will probably stay. But LA Reid has to go! He is a loser if there ever was one. Cannot believe Fox renewed it for a third season – the show is just not going to catch on in the US! High time they realise that.

    @POIFanatic

    Chicago Fire grew 6 tenths from the week before with The Voice lead-in!

  • DaxJackson

    Poor poor Last Resort. I just hope it resolves now.
    POI was incredible as usual and ratings show just that.

    X Factor is so bad this year, I think these talent shows need to stop now they’re not producing stars anymore… Melanie Amaro who won it last has done crap since, and she was incredible. This year there isn’t one decent singer, and from what we saw last night the only country singer in the competition is topping the votes haha in your face Simon.

  • POIFanatic

    @CrimTV: Exactly. It was shedding at the half hour stage and averaged only a 2.2. It should have gained around a whole demo point if it was a strong show. I’ve nothing against it, but I find it too boring.

  • Patrick Gillease

    WOW, “Last Resort” has sunken SO low that ABC should really pull it off the air for November sweeps and burn it off on Saturday nights. What a shame. I liked the show, though this week’s episode was stupid! I hope the writers and producers get the sub home in Episode 13 since there will clearly be no more. I smell yet another serialized drama being canceled by ABC without an ending. I should just stop watching their shows if they can’t provide conclusions!

    As for “Scandal,” its ratings are scandalous!! Shonda Rimes or not, ABC needs to cancel this show ASAP. Let her go to another network if her undies get in a bundle. These ratings just suck!!

  • MikieB

    I stopped watching XFactor US (still loving the UK show go Christopher & Ella), but Britney is dull as dishwater, LA Reid is faker than he was last year, Demi is nice and I know she’s has some hits, but I have no idea who she is, and none of the performers really stand out to me. Also the voice over announcer gets on my nerves (and should have been replaces along with last years host) and this is strike two on the host. I liked last years host better than Mario.

    I’ll stick with the voice for now but if any of the judges leave, it may lose it’s magic for me.

  • Holly

    @Sarah L,

    Not on ABC.

  • CrimTV

    @MikieB

    You think UK X Factor is better than the US version, are you crazy?! Our UK version this year is terrible! Really boring!

    @Sarah L

    Yes Holly is right, many ABC shows have or have had a female leading character (Desperate Housewives there was 4!, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Private Practice, Nashville, Malibu Country are the current shows on ABC with a main female lead or two) Plus many past shows from ABC have had female leads such as both versions of Charlie’s Angels, Pan Am, GCB, Ugly Betty, V, and many more!

  • silvit

    Another major similarities, is that the leading characters on both shows are women which is unusual for a broadcast network channel.

    What? Not true at all. GA has leading women, Body of Proof two women, Castle a female co-lead, The Mob Doctor a female lead, so does Bones, P&R, 30 Rock, New Girl, Glee in part, Up All Night, Fringe, Scandal.

    Now, the majority of them suck, but that’s another story. ;-)

  • Austin Lauran

    Does anybody know why NBC hasn’t been able to launch any hit dramas and sitcoms for at least the past 2 years without The Voice as a lead-in? Is the network really cursed?
