The order for mid-season ABC comedy Family Tools has been cut from 13 episodes to 10 according to a report from Deadline.
At first from the title from Twitter i thought it’s cut from 13 to 3 episodes.
Oh god, i need to practice more English. Haha.
Wonder if they were waiting for the ratings of the TGIF shows before announcing this.
Smart move ABC doesn’t need extra episodes not airing. Look at Apartment 23, its just extra episodes for the shows second season. How to Live With Your Parents still has 13 episodes but My guess is it will either replace Apartment 23 or The Neighbors. Since Apartment 23 has 19 eps and Happy Endings has 22 it makes sense.
@Oliver – the numbers for the Friday comedies will have no effect on the new ABC midseason shows. If LMS and Malibu County get full seasons they will air fridays the whole season. The midseason shows will air January-March between dance cycles
Not the end of the world, as the pilot was extremely poorly-written. (Not that the writer is on the show anymore. But then replacing him with the guys who brought you “The Grubbs” isn’t exactly what one would consider an upgrade.)
Still, kind of crappy to cut them at the very last minute so they get left with scripts in hand and can’t even do a season finale.
@Dan
ABC could have easily changed their mid-season schedule. It could have replaced Malibu Country had it flopped, or they could have paired it with The Neighbors at 9 on Friday.
I really hope ABC announce their Mid-season schedule soon so I can find out when How to Live With Your Parents will premiere! I’m so excited for it and I have loved everything Sarah Chalke has starred in as a main actress or guest (How I Met Your Mother, Cougar Town, Mad Love and of course SCRUBS).
I also thought it meant it had been reduced to 3 episodes.
@CrimTV
According to Deadline, it premieres in January and will lead the evening.
@Jamie
Yeah I knew they were planning to air it on Tuesday between the cycles of DWTS but judging on the performance of Happy Endings and Apartment 23 on Tuesdays I was hoping The Neighbors would bomb so that they could air it on Wednesday to give it a better chance, ah well
@CrimTV
They’re a little hard to predict this season. Too many mid-season slots to fill!
What ABC should do is very simply
Sun
7:00 AFHV
8:00 Once Upon A Time
9:00 Revenge
10:00 Scandal
Mon
8:00 The Bachelor
10:00 Castle
Tue (lineup of all familiar shows)
8:00 Surburgatory
8:30 The Neighbors
9:00 Happy Endings
9:30 Don’t Trust The B In Apartment 23
10:00 Body Of Proof
Wed (give new shows a lead in and sample)
8:00 The Middle
8:30 Family Tools
9:00 Modern Family
9:30 How To Live With Your Parents
10:00 Nashville
Thu
8:00 Shark Tank
9:00 Grey’s Anatomy
10:00 Mistresses
Fri
8:00 Last Man Standing
8:30 Malibu Country
9:00 Wipeout
10:00 20/20

@tv#1
I love that schedule
Deadline reported that HTLWYP & FT will air from 8-9pm on Tues starting in Jan. I agree that it would’ve been better to move The Neigbors over from Wed & premiere 1 of their new shows on Wed after The Middle.
Why don’t we just stick to what ABC announced.
@alffan – Your schedule is a little too “simply” because you left off quite a few shows: Zero Hour, Red Widow, Wife Swap, and Nightline (which was given the 9:00pm Friday slot beginning March 1 over the summer).
I would have also preferred tv#1′s schedule.
@Oliver – Originally I figured that FT and HTLWYP would replace MC and/or The Neighbors should one or both of them have flopped but Since both look to be sticking around for full seasons it seems that ABC will stick to their original plan of airing both in their scheduled slots. Last season ABC had Cougar Town and Apartment 23 scheduled for Tuesdays but ended up postponing their return dates because they needed the shows to replace low rated comedies.
Abc’s Wednesday lineup is perfect as is. I don’t understand why people want Neighbors cancelled. While the name and the premise are not the best, it actually is a pretty funny show. Much better than the horrific Apt. 23. And I’ve seen the first two epis of Family Tools and I have to say that the only show worst than that was Work It. ABC should send it to Saturdays where it can’t hurt any other show.

It will likely premiere 8 January; ABC typically airs a full schedule with their DWTS replacements the first full week of January.
They will likely announce their midseason schedule once they make a decision on their bubble shows but January 8 seems likely. My guess is within the next two weeks ABC will give full seasons to Nashville and Malibu County, additional episodes for Last Resort and cancel 666 Park Avenue
