jonboyelk…I have heard from people here at this site and others report that GH (and ex-OLTL) head writer Ron Carlivati is gay. Carlivati’s Wikipedia page says that he is openly gay, so I will assume that he is. I haven’t heard anything about GH (and ex-OLTL) executive producer Frank Valentini’s sexual orientation.

With that being said, I don’t really much care who these two men opt to sleep with. It’s really none of my business and I don’t believe that being gay makes you a better soap opera writer. Talent does not discriminate based on a person’s personal proclivities.

I totally agree with many other posts. DOOL is on fire right now. Eileen Davidson is at her best. She is relaxed and abviously enjoying her character. Her interactions with EJ and other characters are so realistic and playful. DOOL has the best actors, not to say any other soap has bad ones. The actors on DOOL seem like they are a family behind the camera. The writing also helps. DOOL is great, let’s hope they continue in the right direction and keep on improving well after November sweeps.

Wow, according to Jay’s numbers Y&R has lost another 233,000 viewers from the prior week. Not surprised as the show has literally focused on 4, yes 4 characters for the longest time. It has quickly turned into the Nick/Avery or Adam/Chelsea show. I’ve said this before — Y&R gets “stuck” on one type of story or a handful of characters and that’s all you see for weeks. I don’t get that especially when you have an entire canvas of characters to write for and interact with. If this is an example of where this show is headed this show is in deep do-do already!

  • Kayla Rae

Way to go, DAYS!!! You are truly rockin’ it! Days is by far the best and brightest of all the soaps…always has been and always will be! Keep up the momentum, Days, with your superb acting and intriguing, skilled writing!

  • Kayla Rae

I have to agree with you, @NBC is Awesome, in that I am not finding GH to be very much improved at all lately. It still lacks luster. DOOL, on the other hand, just keeps getting better and better! Days is at the top of their game, far superior to GH and all the other soaps.

  • Reality

@ Kayla Rae….I fear for you when DOOL gets cancelled. It will happen sooner or later. GH is freaking awesome right now. Cant wait for Lucy to return. I dont watch the CBS shows so I will not post about them. Hope they all stay on the air, but that is out of our hands.

  • LynTX

I scratch my head when I hear some proclaim their fav soap is soo much better than another when at the end of the day, the #’s speak for themselves (HH as well as demos). No matter, all of us are not entertained by the same thing (I for one need more than s/ls of “who will get with whom”). Doesn’t make one better than the other.

As soap fans, we all want the genre to exist for many more years. That should be our common thread.

  • jonboyelk

I don’t care if Frank and Ron are aliens from Mars; I’m loving GH!

  • ohiogirl

I’m really hating the scenes between Will and Sonny…these two young men are wonderful actors, but the writers have it all wrong by creatng a gay storyline between them…first of all, they’re cousins, aren’t they?…at least distant cousins.

Secondly, Will was too convincing in his past straight storylines with Gabi and during the ‘Baby Grace’ arc to pull off being Sonny’s boyfriend. I appreciated DAYS adding an opposing opinion with Nick and Gabi discussing the Biblical stance on homosexuality. To be successful in approaching this issue, both sids need to be aired…not just having someone throw puches at Sonny, but really delving into both sides of the issue. Those who are opposed to same-sex marriage have reasons. They aren’t all just ‘haters’. To show them as such will just continue to alienate the audience.
Third…DAYS has always been careful to use PDA and bedroom scenes only when needed to progress the story. Hugging and kising in public is just not something that’s seen all that often by anyone, straight or gay. Will and Sonny are being portrayed as far too demonstrative to be believable…please back off on the PDAs…it comes off as too classless for two young men who’s characters are considered to be thoughtful and discreet.

Wow what a show yesterday on GH. They really know how to use the vets.
They blend it just right. I’ve watched GH for 40 years. It’s really the best
I’ve seen it in years. Can’t wait to watch it everyday. I haven’t been this excited in years. GO GH!!!! I was worried it woudn’t do as well cuz of the time change, but it’s doing better. GH IS ON FIRE!

  • TimsDale4ever

I’m not surprised by all the positive comments about GH. And you aren’t saying that it’s somewhat better — you’re saying it’s on fire! I’m not a viewer but I can tell you it’s because of Frank & Ron. I was in the exact same boat with OLTL. I started watching for the very, very first time in 2001 upon the return of Mitch and knew Viki would most likely be front and center. I had finally let go of ATWT after 20 years because that show COMPLETELY abandoned its rich history to shove new, sickening, BORING teenagers down our throats. Sorry, I threw it up right back at them and switched channels to OLTL, knowing very little about the show except what I had picked up during award shows and magazines, etc. It was sooooooooooo good back then.

However, after about 3 years damn if OLTL didn’t do the exact same thing and about at the end of 2004 this show was an entirely different show with guess what — a bunch of annoying me, me, me teenagers. Long story short, I came back around Christmas 2010 and was pleasantly surprised at how familiar the show was again and honestly was hooked after only about 2 episodes thanks to the talents of Frank & Ron who were at the helm.

I ended up following the show all the way to the 2012 end. I simply could not get enough of it thanks to Frank & Ron. Great stories with great characters (most I remembered – some new). It looked and felt like my OLTL again. You just could not wait for the next episode and all of daytime has suffered from the lack of this kind of show for way too long. All the shows used to be produced this way but the people that understood this concept all disappeared around the turn of the century and daytime drama has suffered severly from the lack of their talent.

Congrats again GH fans — your show will most likely soar as long as those 2 are at the helm. THEY COMPLETELY GET IT!!!!!

I just want all the soaps to succeed.I may only watch gh but all of them have a fan base and we sure don’t want anymore cancelled.Good for our soaps.even though I think everyone have alot more veiwers then Neilsen reports..Alot more….

  • Kayla Rae

@Ohiogirl, you are WAAAAY off the mark regarding DOOL’s handling of the beautiful love story between Will and Sonny. You seem to find discomfort in PDA??? Are you kidding me??? All the soaps, including DOOL prominently feature plenty of love scenes and PDA. You must be watching soaps on another planet! Clearly you are uncomfortable with gay people. Prejudice and bigotry against the LGBT community is no more okay than prejudice and discrimination against African Americans, women, asians, etc. It is wrong to expect gay people to hide their love and keep it secret as you suggest. Love is nothing to be ashamed of. I suggest you educate yourself and work on your inner fears and small-minded judgements and enlarge your circle of compassion to include all sentient beings. Shame on you for such narrow-mindedness. It’s time to stop using the bible in such distorted ways in order to attempt to look down upon others who don’t fit into your narrow, self-righteous world view.

  • Kayla Rae

By the way, @Ohiogirl, there is nothing wrong with distant cousins getting involved with one another, so get over that one too. That said, Will and Sonny share no blood relation anyway, so that point is moot. Further, just because Will had dated some girls before in no way means he wasn’t gay. He, like so many gay folks was trying to find himself and trying to fit in. Can you really be so unbelievably naive??? You seem to be desperately grasping at straws here. Really, Ohiogirl, methinks thou doth protest too much. Your bigotry is showing.

  • Mike

Wow at some of the comments here. I usually just read here in the ratings thread due to the ugliness of fans to each other. I post in other areas of the site, but mostly avoid the daytime ratings thread and the cable news threads. I don’t know which is worse watching the right wing and the left wing nuts attack one another or watching the soap fans attack each other. Any one of them can sure pack a punch when they want to though. When did it become okay to attack one another and call each other names. Just because we have free speech doesn’t mean that everything ugly that can be said has to be said.

Anyway looking forward to the new bunch of ratings this week, and hope all the soaps do well. I really hope B&B is up for the Stephanie stuff. It has been great. It and Y&R are the only 2 soaps I faithfully DVR now, but Y&R could be dropping off that list any day if it doesn’t pick up.

Haven’t watched Days or GH in years. And watching the GH fans rip one another apart on message boards these days doesn’t even make me want to watch it. Same with the way GH fans and DAys fans attack one another. Just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth for both shows. I guess I shouldn’t blame the show but I just have no desire to get caught up in such hate.

I’ll stick with B&B. I get my daily dose of entertainment without feeling like I have to go out and rage at someone on the Internet.

  • LynTX

@Mike – So agree with sentiments of your post. The decrease in postings suggest more than a ‘few’ also agree.

    Wishing all soaps well………

  • Kayla Rae

To Mike and Lyn: Remember, silence only helps the oppressor, never the oppressed. It is the right thing to speak up for the oppressed, including those in the LGBT community. I am privileged and proud to do so. More people need to stand up for what is right. There are universal truths; rights which deserve being defended. Wrongs which need to fall into the relics of yesterday’s dust bins.

  • MBmomof3

Mike, sadly I have to agree with you about the hostility on the message boards. The few soap boards I visit, as well as this one, have become so vile. Some of the comments regarding religion and politics are beyond rude and just plain crazy IMO. Having a difference of opinion or another POV seems unacceptable on any level to many. I’ve decided to take a break and just enjoy my stories while I can. I may pop in, but I’m trying to stay above the fray because sometimes it brings out the worst in me too, and I’m trying to take the high road. It’s hard to do when posters who have no idea who I am lable me as “not a true Christian”, a “bigot” or an “idiotic woman”.

Keep loving (or not) your soaps! Peace.

  • LynTX

@Kayla – I may have misunderstood Mike (don’t think so) but I took it as a general statement. From my prospective, from viewing the various boards, including this one, people tend to build up their fav characters and show by tearing down other characters/shows. Like you have to choose a ‘fav’ to be a FAN! Why can’t we just like the show of our choice? And we ALL continue to enjoy?!

That is what has made me tune out of the soaps.

  • jonboyelk

@Kayla Sorry to be stupid, but what is PDA?
