CW rookie The Beauty & The Beast is currently a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation. Its ratings are too close to sophomore Hart Of Dixie's for me to make a call between them at this point (particularly if you factor out the BATB premiere). I hope there's some separation later in the season that will clear things up, but based on recent CW history that may be wishful thinking.

What is very clear is that a cadre of vocal fans of the 2011-12 casualty The Secret Circle hate The Beauty & The Beast with the fire of a thousand suns.

While the reasons for each fan's hate may be different, that doesn't stop me from asking what our readers think. Vote as many times as your fingers will allow!

Emily Owens, M.D. is certain to be canceled.

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Because the folks at the CW seem to like short final seasons for their veteran shows, 90210 could be renewed for a 13 episode final season next year, even with its terrible ratings, that's why it's just a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal. They could certainly re-ealuate their penchant for short final seasons if schedule time next season gets tight though. Read more about it here.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I think Beauty and The Beast is a great show and has become my favorite on TV. Yes it helps that Jay Ryan is delightfully sexy but if you actually watch the show, He and Kristin Kreuk have great chemistry on screen. She also kicks a lot of butt for such a tiny thing. Also everyone expects it to be like the old BATB show so they get disappointed. It is 2012 people not 1980’s. You have to have a modern twist. It is a show thats suppose to entertain you. Take you away from the hum drum of everyday for an hour. Not be stupid reality, major drama, screaming crap that most reality shows are. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. But don’t be hatin on us #Beasties fans!

  • Andrew

Hart of Dixie would get the renewal over Beauty and the Beast. no question.

  • Percysowner

There was no reason to cancel the show when it was the THIRD HIGHEST RATED SHOW on The CW!!!!

If it had really been the third highest rated show on the CW, it wouldn’t have been canceled. By the end of last year TVD, ANTM and SPN were 1,2 and 3, I’m pretty sure. TSC may have had cumulative ratings being high, but I think it started off with a bang and then fell a lot. Ringer did the same thing. No network cancels a show they think will do well the next year and the only reason they cancel shows that are doing well is when production costs get so high the show doesn’t make money. TSC started okay then dropped and dropped. At the end of last season the network had to make a bet of whether TSC would stabilize at a higher rating than a new show would. They bet that TSC wouldn’t. As of now BATB has had a couple of weeks with stable and not awful ratings. Frankly TSC people should be ranting about EOMD, because that has been a failure, but since it didn’t get the after TVD time slot it’s getting a pass.

I have always been drawn to shows like Supernatural, The Vampire diaries and now Arrow and Beauty and the Beast,Beauty and the Beast is defiantly not like anything i have seen before. And that’s a good thing different is always better IMO.each episode gets better and better.

  • G.O

I went for the 3dr option as well. I don’t see why hating on other show that airs on the same time like TSC did will bring any good to the fans. It’s not going to bring the show back. It’s clearly not fair to blame BatB for this show has done nothing wrong to TSC.
I love watching BatB because it has Kristin Kreuk as the main character, i miss her on tv so much that i have to check this show out. When i watched the pilot, i’m feeling like i have to watch this show again next week, and this show is getting more and more interesting. (Not to mention the casts and crew are friendly and nice to the fans)
The haters gonna hate, but i don’t give a damn about it. I love everything about this show! Go, Beauty and the Beast!!

  • The Yipster

Well, maybe Nikita’s ratings will improve slightly when it returns to its time slot last season. I’m enjoying the show as much as I can when it’s on.

  • Adrianna

I never watched TSC, but I have watched BaTB from the beginning and I absolutely love it! I don’t understand why anyone would hate it. Its got everything action, romance, comedy, mystery, etc. And the cast has such great chemistry with each other. I would be so disappointed if it was cancelled because it has so much promise. If you’re not watching this show for whatever reason, you’re missing out IMO.

  • Urba

Why are you mad about TSC? Ok it got cancelled I was sad too, but BATB is so much better. Got hooked after 2 eps and TSC took me 10!! Stop all the hate? WATCH BATB AND ENJOY?

  • kalena_henden

TSC fans are hatin’? Really? I watched the whole season last year. It had potential (I loved the whole cast) but it went nowhere. The CW definitely made a good choice to cancel it.

BatB has great chemistry between the leads and is even making a convincing case for a love triangle. It has potential but needs to move the plot forward a little faster with Catherine’s search for her mother’s killers and moving toward exonerating Vince. Not that they will accomplish either of those things in the near future but they need to pursuing the goal. That’s one of the reasons TVD works so well; they are always on a mission in the midst of all the emotional trauma.

  • enes

I stoped watching The CW after they axed The Secret Circle and Ringer , they did this to them selfs ! I hope The Carrie Diaries will be a flop to :D

  • Chanya

I’ve watched every episode of TSC and was a fan but there is really no need to hate on a show like BatB. I gave TSC a chance and did the same for Beauty and the Beast and loved each show just as equally. I began watching BatB particular for the lead actress, Kristin Kreuk, who I was a big fan of since her Smallville days. From the great chemistry between the cast, the modern twist on the classic, timeless tale, I was instantly a fan.

  • Alan

I loved TSC but I can’t see why it wasn’t renewed. I know it should have had higher ratings because of TVD, but they were very decent. If I were Mark Pedowitz, I would have cancelled HOD and Ringer.

  • Tessa

I was driving by a BatB poster today and the fierce look on the lead actress’ face caught my eye. Compared to her the “beast” looked tame. An idea hit me then. Maybe the CW would’ve had better luck had the subverted the trope, you know made the guy “the beauty” and the woman “the beast.” Had they done that even I might have watched the show, because it would have been something different from a dozen shows currently on air. But the way they went about it, there’s nothing to differentiate it from others like The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf or even The Incredible Hulk. It’s the same damn story over and over again: guy has a beast inside he struggles to control, girl falls in love with him not having a clue about it at first. As Disney would say, it’s a tale as old as time.

  • Michael

Lol, Secret Circle fans are dedicated! They will do anything in their power, to make sure everything fails.

  • dani

Let’s remember that the original Beauty and the Beast series lasted only 3 years. While I have extremely fond memories of the original series and went into this new remake with extreme trepidation, I still watch weekly. I’m not sold on our new Catherine, but it’s growing on me. The show does have the tendancy to drag a bit, but we do have to step back and remember that fundamentally this is a romance story, with a bit of action thrown in. The original series was much the same – there was rarely anything of action involved until the last fifteen minutes – Catherine would find herself in trouble, Vincent would dive in and rescue her, tender moment, end show… with some committment and time to truly get into their roles, I think the new series could be much the same, and will stay with it through the first season just to see how they develop. The CW’s Beauty and the Beast will never be the original, it will never demand the love the original did, but it has the bones of a decent show and can be given the chance. I figure, let’s wait and see. After all, it’s not costing me anything but an hour a week, and the rewards of seeing a show develop into something great far outweigh the pains of sticking by while they learn the ins and outs of their new characters.

  • Michael

This has been a solid year for the CW! Mark Pedowitz is slowly, but surely improving the network and the results prove it. TVD was the only show above a 1.0, since 2009. In 2012, CW has three shows above 1.0… This may not be a big deal for the big four networks, but for the CW this is huge!

  • bee

The reason TSC fans hate BatB is because people keep comparing what was actually a well-done show to a series that stars Kristin Kreuk as a grizzled NYC Detective and Jay Ryan as a disfigured beast. ‘Nuf said.

  • Erica K.

First of all, the question is flawed, so I can’t really vote accurately. I liked Secret Circle, and hated that it was cancelled with a giant cliff hanger. I wasn’t sure what to make of B&B previews because the 80’s one looked pretty bad. I gave it a chance anyway and the first thing that drew me in actually was the witty and charming dialogue. The actors (all of them) they picked were excellent. I ended up loving the first episode and when I saw that the viewers weren’t tuning in to watch I panicked because I did not want another cliff hanger. I used to only watch CW for the Vampire Diaries but now VD is what I watch while I’m waiting for B&B.
