CW rookie The Beauty & The Beast is currently a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation. Its ratings are too close to sophomore Hart Of Dixie's for me to make a call between them at this point (particularly if you factor out the BATB premiere). I hope there's some separation later in the season that will clear things up, but based on recent CW history that may be wishful thinking.

What is very clear is that a cadre of vocal fans of the 2011-12 casualty The Secret Circle hate The Beauty & The Beast with the fire of a thousand suns.

While the reasons for each fan's hate may be different, that doesn't stop me from asking what our readers think. Vote as many times as your fingers will allow!

Emily Owens, M.D. is certain to be canceled.

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Because the folks at the CW seem to like short final seasons for their veteran shows, 90210 could be renewed for a 13 episode final season next year, even with its terrible ratings, that's why it's just a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal. They could certainly re-ealuate their penchant for short final seasons if schedule time next season gets tight though. Read more about it here.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Beauty and the Beast is crappy, boring and stupid. So was TSC. Last year, The Secret Flop deserved that cancelation, so does B&B now. I don’t really cared aout TSC tho… :D

  • Andy

PS: Those two bitter TSC fans should shut up! Nobody gave a damn about it.

  • glover

I wish Arrow and Supernatural keep strong for the whole season.

  • Peeta

Those TSC and Ringer fans who stoped watching the network, should realize that The CW is doing way better this year than last year. They have at least 3 shows over the 1.0 rating mark. Everything is flopping, but last year was worse.

I find it hilarious that people think their favorite shows are the only ones to get screwed over!! Here is a list of shows the CW SCREWED OVER Legit:

    1. Everwood never made it from the WB schedule to the CW however a lot of upn comedies and critically acclaimed darling veronica mars way below in the ratings got a 3rd season. (I never watched everwood and I like vm so no favortism here)

    2. REBA. A comedy shoved to Sunday Nights with the failure of 7th Heaven Season 11 and still pulled modest ratings considering the transition for this network and yet it did not get a renewal. CW made a REAL STUPID MOVE for canceling reba an actual funny show which is rare for the CW. Also Reba was CW #1 comedy show outperforming All of us, Everybody Hates Chris, Girlfriends and The Game.

    3. Gilmore Girls. From what I hear Gilmore Girls fans did not get the proper closure for a true Series Finale. I’m sorry but if I invest 7 plus years in a show I better get damn closure. GG was the #2 scripted series on the CW following Smallville and #4 show on the network behind ANTM and Smackdown. Sure there were negotiations failed when it came time to bargain but CW has screwed itself time and time again.

There are other shows that CW unfairly ruled against but on one last note.

If NIKITA gets a 4th season for syndication purposes, then yes you Veronica Mars have been screwed over by the CW Network. Atleast CW is treating Supernatural decent, maybe this all stems from that Dawn Ostroff lady we all love to not like I just hope CW makes better decisions in the future if there is one!

oh wow, i cant even believe this made it into being an article.. How the heck can TSC fans hate BatB just bc it took its timeslot? that is beyond pathetic. TSC got cancelled, and yes that Sucks (i was a fan too!) but how is hating on Beauty and the BEast and not giving it a chance what-so-ever going to make the situation better?? HOW?!? it wont, so dont hate Beauty and the Beast, bc its actually a pretty good show, and if TSC fans gave it half a chance, they’d see that.
Btw, All Legend of the Seeker fans should give BatB a chance too, it has a Lot of similarities, as Bridget Regan herself pointed out. (cant wait 2 see B on the show! ;)

  • Ally

Also, i just Have to add, Jay Ryan, the actor who plays Vincent aka the ‘beast’ is Really Hott! watch the show for life 5 seconds without the hate in your hearts, and you might see that. Everyone would be lying if they saw the opening scene from BatB episode 5, and still said Vincent wasn’t attractive. #FACT

  • Monica

The numbers say that Beauty and the beast goes wrong then those guys! Cancel….

  • herpderp

Basically, everything that’s wrong with CW today is Dawn Ostroff’s fault.

  • Nola

The actor Jay R. has no charisma looks like a wax statue. I see no attraction with Kristin K. The show was boring and bad .

  • Brandon

I am not a delusional Nikita fan that thinks the ratings aren’t bad. But the show is phenomenal. The writing is spot on and the story lines never get dull. I will take any help these syndication gods are willing give in order for it to get a Season 4. Fingers crossed it works!

  • Flame

A and D. Nobody screwed TSC over, the ratings just weren’t good enough. Meanwhile, I’m having fun with Rachel Bilson and her gang. (But I’d be happier if they’d get a bit closer to the 0.9 line…)

  • Dee

This poll is ridiculous. Just utterly, completely ridiculous.

  • Aaliyah

THIS IS BAD LUCK CAUSE THEY SHOULD’VE KEPT THE SECRET CIRCLE!!! MAYBE THERE’S STILL HOPE FOR TSC!!!

  • luisl

@Sam I believe at that time in 2006-07 season syndication= 100 episodes so correct me on the Nikita and Veronica Mars comparison. But who would of thought in 2012 CW would be begging for a show to pull over 2 million viewers and a decent young adult demo. Cw would kill for their old lineup and a lot of the WB shows that did not make the CW cut.

  • herpderp

    @Aaliyah

I wonder how you function in real life.

  • Tom

    @ Mr. Gorman

Re: “One crazy fanbase at a time, please!”

Mr. Gorman: This is an uncalled for provocation. Sure it’s your site. But, shame on you anyway. I thought I was done lamenting the cancellation of TSC, but you dragged me back. The correct answer is “none of the above”. It’s abundantly clear that most of the programs on the CW are ratings flops and would be so even if the TSC had never aired. Anyone who saw the advance pilot of B&B would have realized that this show was typical of the poor programming that has typified the CW for a number of seasons. Such is the network’s reputation that I wouldn’t be surprised if even good shows (assuming the CW finds any) would incur a ratings penalty merely by being broadcast on the network. So kindly don’t persecute the TSC fans for being as tenacious as they are in defense of their show. Just let us morn the demise of our beloved program in peace.

  • Mi

What about people that are not fans of TSC and think B&tB will be cancelled? Don’t we deserve another poll option? ;) Personally, I think both shows suck hard due to bad show runners and writers.

  • Mary Ann

I absolutely LOVE “Beauty and the Beast.” I also watched and enjoyed every episode of “The Secret Circle.”

I think what is going on with the “haters” is that the two shows in some way resonate to them as similar, so they don’t want a similar show to succeed if theirs was canceled. IMO, “The Secret Circle” started off great then went downhill. The season ending was so disappointing (Cassie’s father set up as truly evil, that new circle coming in for our circle to battle) that I am quite happy that the series was put out of its misery. Now “Ringer” is a different issue. I will never stop mourning that show, and wish it could have had a many-years run.
