CW rookie The Beauty & The Beast is currently a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation. Its ratings are too close to sophomore Hart Of Dixie's for me to make a call between them at this point (particularly if you factor out the BATB premiere). I hope there's some separation later in the season that will clear things up, but based on recent CW history that may be wishful thinking.
What is very clear is that a cadre of vocal fans of the 2011-12 casualty The Secret Circle hate The Beauty & The Beast with the fire of a thousand suns.
While the reasons for each fan's hate may be different, that doesn't stop me from asking what our readers think. Vote as many times as your fingers will allow!

Emily Owens, M.D. is certain to be canceled.
How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.
Because the folks at the CW seem to like short final seasons for their veteran shows, 90210 could be renewed for a 13 episode final season next year, even with its terrible ratings, that's why it's just a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal. They could certainly re-ealuate their penchant for short final seasons if schedule time next season gets tight though. Read more about it here.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

THOUGHTS?
TSC fans hating BATB just suffer from the “my show is special and should be the exception to the rule” syndrome.
I liked many shows over the years that never made it past one season. Moonlight is the one cancellation that I regret the most, but on a QUALITY basis, Firefly is the only show I can think of that really, truly deserved a second season.
Arrow and BATB are my favorite new shows this year. Since BATB is probably the worst-reviewed new show, I already consider it a win that it wasn’t DOA and is getting 22 episodes. I hope it gets a second season, but if it doesn’t, thems the breaks in TV land.
@Tom “Just let us morn the demise of our beloved program in peace.”
But you’re not mourning TSC in peace. You’re spamming the net with ridiculously deluded comments calling for TSC to be brought back and current CW shows to be canceled. If you were actually mourning TSC in peace then no one would feel the need to create polls that ridicule you.
@James I think this show will be aired after TVD next year, considering the show runners

Deadline also reported today about two other scripts that the CW purchased, and I’m not sure they’re done yet. Hopefully, they’ll have a bigger pile of new shows next year and won’t have to give the back 9s to shows that won’t return for season 2 like TSC, Ringer, and B&tB.
I heavily revised my 2013-2014 schedule prediction. Thoughts?

Where is the option for “I was a Secret Circle fan and don’t care how Beauty and the Beast does?”
I miss the Secret Circle and didn’t care for Beauty and the Beast. But hate it, nah. I think that most fans of TSC are more like me. Its just that the rapid ones are the ones who post. One should never take the postings on a site like here(or others) and assume that is the normal.
@JRG,
I think that most fans of TSC are more like me. Its just that the rabid ones are the ones who post.
That’s true of any show. The vast majority of fans are normal, sane people who don’t obsess over a show or hate other shows for the sake of their show. But it’s the fringe crazies that make the most noise and get the most attention. And Bill did specify that it was a “cadre of vocal fans” rather than generalizing that all TSC fans were like this.
@Michael
Yeah, I give Pedowitz a lot of credit as well. Not all his picks are winners, but no network president picks all winners in one year. But just the fact that he took it from a network that went from having only one show above 1.0 to three is a lot. Under Ostroff things were getting rapidly worse from year to year, and it just one year he managed to turn it around and make a significant improvement.
It bothers me a bit people are giving Jeremy Carver (SPN’s new showrunner) credit for SPN’s increased ratings, when the credit goes mostly to Pedowitz. What new fans joined this year were mostly hooked through the first seven seasons on Netflix, and Pedowitz secured the deal with Netflix. But mostly it was the move to Wednesdays and the being paired with Arrow, the most kick-ass lead-in SPN could’ve wished for.
The proof is that Supernatural premiered without Arrow at 0.8–the exact same rating it had gotten the year before, and on Fridays at that. It’s only once Arrow premiered the next week it hit 1.0.
And the DVR numbers are solid evidence that rather than new viewers, these are DVR viewers shifting to live.
Oct 3: 0.8 live +SD plus 0.6 DVR +7 = 1.4
Oct 10: 1.0 live +SD plus 0.4 DVR +7 = 1.4
DVR viewing dropped 0.2 and live viewing rose 0.2. Coincidence? I think not.
A couple hundred thousand people didn’t suddenly out of the blue start watching Supernatural live the second episode of season 8 just because some guy named Jeremy Carver had started running the show. They started watching it because they had seen the first seven seasons on Netflix, and DVR viewers watched it live because it was on a weekday after another similar show they also wanted to watch.
LOL! I almost choked on my soda when I read the comment about giving the show a chance because the beast is hot/attractive. HE’S A BEAST! Why is he even called that? Because he “Hulks Up” when angry, yet when he does he helps people rather than hurt them? I have yet to see this guy do anything “beastly”. I think Angel had it tougher than this guy, he tuned into a “evil” monster when he had sex.

I think you may be confused about the level of Pedowitz “improvement”.
Unfortunately, comparing last season to this season is complicated by a number of factors.
About the best I can do is comparing the CW scripted ratings averages for week 4 & 5 of the two seasons (the only weeks the CW aired all its scripted shows this season so far)
Week 4 2011: 0.78
Week 4 2012: 0.74
Week 5 2011: 0.81
Week 5 2012: 0.61
Big improvement, eh?
No question that Arrow has done very well for them, but counting the Supernatural ratings increase as “all plus” fails to take into account the ratings disaster on Friday since it was moved. The CW has extinction level ratings on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
Emily Owens has failed, and no sane person can argue that Beauty & The Beast is doing *better* than The Secret Circle at this point. I’m not sure we can crown Pedowitz when he has produced *one* show that’s worked well for them.
If he strings together a bunch of Arrow’s, yay! But what if he strings together a bunch of Emily Owens?
The jury’s still out on the guy as far as I’m concerned.
@Shaz Not much into humor are you? I don’t see any evidence for what you’re saying in my post. It’s all in your head. If you like B&B, good for you. For what it’s worth, last Thursday at 9 PM I was watching Burn Notice on the USA Network. It received a 1.1 3.47. By comparison, B&B was rated at 0.7 1.84. So, enjoy it while you’re able. And learn the definition of spam. HINT: It doesn’t include posting to discussion forums.
Well as a not-TSC fan, I can say I hate both shows because they both sucked
1.GG,Hart of dexie,Emily Owens,90210(seriously why you guys think that CW will renew a show that gets a 0.6 rating at its best?)and Beauty and the Beast will wave goodbye
2.TVD,Arrow and SPN are sure renewals
3.Cult will be cancelled because is not a show that can survive on the Cw and the carrie diaries will just fail
so from what i heard from the cw new tv shows
-Either the Selection or The Hundred will be picked up(based on a more popular book i guess The Selection has the edge)
-Sleeping Hollows is a definite pick up since it was highly anticipated by the time they announced this project.
-Coming from the two CW “creators” for this year (actually one of them is CW’s queen)Julie Plec’s and Belarntini’s (or whatever) Tommorow people will be picked up for sure and it will propably paire with TVD.
-Mila Kunis’ drama will replace hart of dixie
-Electropolis will probably get a mid-season pick up even if it sucks just because JJ Abrams does something for the CW
-Reign,Embrace,Jane Whitefield,Sick(which probably has the most stupid srtoiry ever)and this stupid boy band.agents tv show won;t even get a pick-up (maybe 1 or 2 of them will air in the 2014-2015 tv season)
Both TSC and B&TB have something in common, bad acting and bad writing..
I couldn’t get past the pilot on either of them, okay well B&TB I gave until the second episode.
How can people be posting schedules for next season when they don’t even know which of the 18-20 some odd scripts being developed by the CW are even going to get pilots?
And if some Secret Circle fans behave like whiny obnoxious children, I assume it is because they are. I didn’t watch the show, but wasn’t it about a bunch of teenage witches? How many adults would even watch that show? Harry’s Law was cancelled with 7 some odd million viewers but I don’t see fans of that show running around spamming other NBC shows with nasty posts because most of the people who watched that show were older and or emotionally mature adults.
When I was younger, if a show I liked got cancelled I would root for its replacement to fail. Now I don’t let stuff like that get to me, I move on. I’ve had several shows I liked get canned over the years so TSC (I only watched because I’m a big Gale Harold fan) getting cancelled didn’t bother me like it did some others. Shows get cancelled, life goes on. Yes, it’s disappointing, but there will be other shows to enjoy sooner or later. It doesn’t matter to me if B&TB sinks or swims.
Eh why are we still discussing this?
TSC was steady… steadily declining that is. It got lower ratings than expected and it was expensive. Its cancellation was a no-brainer. It was a bad show with mediocre acting and writing. Just like B&TB.
And speaking of B&TB, it *could* snag a pity renewal if everything else crumbles, just because the CW can’t cancel too many shows. But I don’t think it will. It’ll be at 0.4/0.5 sooner or later.
I think the Tuesday at 9 time is worse off than after TVD is. as others have pointed out every show that is put there is canciled. well, except for One Tree Hill that ended the fallowing season. I was a fan of TSC but the show did not keep the ratings up. I believe it got one or two .4s in the late spring. Nikita i am hoping does a bit better when it comes back on at 8 in a couple of weeks.
I agree completely that Beauty and the Male Model is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Certainly nothing else entitled “Beauty and the Beast.” I’ve heard he “hulks” out, so that ‘Beauty and the Hulk might have been more descriptive. Calling him a beast when he has a tiny facial scar is more indicative of the CW than any progression of the theme. Look at the picture, people. Which one is the Beast? They look like fraternal twins. No, I never watched TSC. I have watched just about every incarnation of the “Beauty and the Beast” from George C. Scott to Robbie Benson to Ron Perlman.
Oh, my goodness, Tessa. I had exactly the same idea. Why shouldn’t the female be the beast?! Especially if you can’t determine which is the beast by looking. That, I too might have watched.
Next season it might be better to put HOD at the Tuesday at 9 slot (ie give it the Nikita treatment with the bad timeslot, except with a compatible lead in) and give a new show a shot at 8pm.
