CW rookie The Beauty & The Beast is currently a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation. Its ratings are too close to sophomore Hart Of Dixie's for me to make a call between them at this point (particularly if you factor out the BATB premiere). I hope there's some separation later in the season that will clear things up, but based on recent CW history that may be wishful thinking.

What is very clear is that a cadre of vocal fans of the 2011-12 casualty The Secret Circle hate The Beauty & The Beast with the fire of a thousand suns.

While the reasons for each fan's hate may be different, that doesn't stop me from asking what our readers think. Vote as many times as your fingers will allow!

Emily Owens, M.D. is certain to be canceled.

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Because the folks at the CW seem to like short final seasons for their veteran shows, 90210 could be renewed for a 13 episode final season next year, even with its terrible ratings, that's why it's just a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal. They could certainly re-ealuate their penchant for short final seasons if schedule time next season gets tight though. Read more about it here.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    I have been a fan of this network since before it became The CW. I watched all the episodes of Dawson’s Creek and Felicity, but there is no loyalty anymore.The network doesn’t even give these shows a chance anymore. I’m seriously thinking about cutting the CW out of my weekly line up. It’s not worth getting into a show just to have it cancel year after year.

  • Jazmin

    Option E: Because TSC fans are retarded and think that somehow if they destroy the new show theirs will get justice and CW director will cry begging for their forgiveness.

  • Kavyn

    I personally think EO is getting the back nine despite the ratings. They have nothing to fill it with anyways, and I think the CW might want to genuinely consider the whole “ending shows properly” thing after last year’s TSC and Ringer fiascos.

    EO’s back nine will probably depend on how much the show costs them to make, but it honestly doesn’t seem that expensive.

  • Allison

    I’d like to also mention that I was a big fan of the WB network. They handled their shows well. I watched most of them in the 90′s and 00′s. I was a child/teenager then. I’m starting to think I’m growing out of the CW core demographic. Are you ever too old to watch teen-centric shows? I hope not.

    @Kavyn

    What fiasco? The only backlash was from a select few, very loud butthurt fans that cried bloody murder when their terrible shows got canceled.

  • Getmilk

    TSC fans are the biggest joke and losers on this whole forum. No wait, make it planet! I bet a year from now, they’ll still be bitching about their crappy, flop show.

    Go pick up a book or get a hobby or something.

  • Getmilk

    By the way, The CW needs to convince Bell Media to order another season of The LA Complex so they can replace Emily Owens on Tuesday. I promise the show will perform better this time around. I mean, third time’s a charm, right? :) Love that show!

    The Secret Circle had it’s issues but compared to Beauty and the Beast it was Oscar material for gods sake. Beauty and the beast is just plain bad and aside from that, did the CW seriously expect some sort of fan loyalty to a network thats been pissing viewers off since it’s inception?

    Had they kept Secret Circle going, the CW might have generated some viewer loyalty but instead they kill it only to keep 90210 and Gossip Girl going…really? On top of that they greenlight Beauty and the Beast…REALLY? The CW is a mess. It was a mess went it went live an it’s been a mess ever since. They can rebrand it until hell freezes over and it’s still going to be a mess. I don’t know what is wrong at the CW but whatever it is, it clearly can’t be fixed.

    I liked TSC. I don’t hate BATB, I just don’t think it’s as well done as TSC was. And I don’t think it will survive just as TSC didn’t.

    And I think TSC probably should have been given another season, Despite losing half its audience, its ratings still weren’t that bad compared to the rest of the crap the CW had. TSC basically was canceled to make room for new shows IMO. I think Hart of Dixie and 90210 should have been canceled instead. Those shows represent the “old CW” – shows like Arrow and BATB represent the “new CW”. TSC would have “fit” in with TVD and Supernatural and could have stabilized at a low but adequate rating.

    The exception was Nikita. Based on ratings, yes, it should have been canceled. But Nikita was an “anomaly” – a show that the studio obviously calculated could be sold profitably overseas in syndication regardless of its ratings in the US. That’s the only logical explanation. So its ratings this season will be irrelevant just as they were last season.

    @Moe and @KS
    When comparing the CW’s ratings now to last year at the same time, remember ANTM had much higher ratings at that time.. it was doing as good or even better than SPN now in Wednesday nights.

    I think the CW is in a better state now than it was last year because now the CW have 3 shows they can count on to lead nights next year, and if the Carrie Diaries doesn’t fail, maybe they’ll even have four, but I don’t think we’ll see an increase in the network’s overall ratings before the spring or next year.
    Also, since TVD the CW haven’t been able to produce any hit show, until Arrow came, and the scripts they are buying suggest they have a chance to find another hit next year.

  • Mi

    @AJ
    “Had they kept Secret Circle going, the CW might have generated some viewer loyalty but instead they kill it only to keep 90210 and Gossip Girl going…really?”

    I don’t watch neither 90210 and Gossip Girl but please, do you honestly compare them to TSC? They both had much higher ratings than TSC in their first seasons and the “viewer loyalty” of TSC wouldn’t have generated more than 0.3 this year. TSC would’ve done as bad as Nikita!

    TSC should’ve been cancelled from the same reasons B&tB should be cancelled, and both of them don’t deserve a 2nd season.

  • Scott

    I hate that TSC was canceled and I battled with the best of them to save our show. I believe it was doing a lot better than they think because not everyone watches tv nowadays with work and school and life in general. I may get to watch two of the 12 something shows I watch on actual tv. The rest I watch on the internet and because I hate commercials I watch sites that are commercial free like many others I’m sure. If they found a way to calculate the internet views along with television views I think then they would have a better idea for every show out there. Plus the biggest thing was TSC didn’t get canceled for it’s views because it was like the fourth highest watched show on the CW above Hart of Dixie and etc… I gave BATB a chance though and the first episode bored me death and no chemistry among the actors (compared to the chemistry between Lana and Clark from Smallville which was believable). I wish they would just cancel this show and possibly try that other show called the Cult that will be coming soon to CW in that time slot. I think TSC would like that show more anyways as long as CW doesn’t screw us over again. If a show is failing in views then that’s just that but don’t take a show away that is doing fairly well because your cheap or make compromises and don’t film it in a high dollar area. The only positive thing I will say is I really like Arrow and it’s doing really good and it keeps me in suspense to see what happens next. I also like TVD and it’s doing pretty good as well though I hope they find a way to turn Elaina back into a human.

  • Tori

    How about a fifth option for that poll? No one likes Kristin Kruek. She was hated on Smallville, and that long of passionate dislike is a hard thing to just forget once her horrible acting skills show up in yet another show.

  • Jamie

    How can you say that beauty and the beast is better? LOL. I wasn’t a fan of secret circle either. I thought it was boring and predictable. But I watched the first episode of beauty and the beast and it was barely even watchable. I found myself looking to the clock to figure out if it was almost over. Secret circle was better..But neither show is really that great.

  • Kaio

    @chris 7th Heaven was a excellent show.

  • Alexis

    I think it’s too early to tell BatB’s fate. It could well be another TSC, but if it stabilizes at 0.6-0.7, considering the extremely low standards of the CW, it could make the cut. Plus, we have to see not only how BatB holds up, but how Carrie Diaries and Cult do. There are only so many shows the CW can axe, and Emily Owens, M.D. is only on that list.

    Also, after three failed attempts, the CW may be wiser to just give up on launching a show on the post-TVD slot. As many have suggested, TVD fans probably just go online after a new episode to discuss it; they don’t stick around to watch whatever comes on afterwards. It could work better to either push TVD to 9pm and have a new show lead into it (it worked for Arrow, which is Supernatural’s lead-in rather than vice-versa), or put an established show like Supernatural on at 9pm instead of trying to launch something new.

  • Nikki

    I was a bif fan of Secret Circle and i watched maybe 15 mins of Beautys first episode and it was really hard to watch 15 mins of it. Its terrible everything about it is terrible. The acting the writing the whole show. And i dont blame Beauty for TSC cancellation, my problem is it was the 3rd highest viewed show on the network last year, the ratings for all but 4 or 5 episodes were above 0.7. It was the most DVRed show. But it was cancelled anyways.. to keep shows like Heart of dixie which the secret circle out preformed, Nikita which the secret circle out preformed, and 90210 which secret circle out preformed also. So they cancel the better show for those crap cheaper to produce shows and then add a terrible show like Beauty and the Beast and give it TSC timeslot.. that hurts. After all the work the fans did the petitions, the letters, the dilveries of mass amounts of coins to ABCFamily. If the show was as bad everyone on here would like to think then why was their such an attempt to save it. It had a lot of fans who would of loved to see it return. Bottom line is the CW makes bad decisions and the network will die slowly. There is not one show i watch on that network now, they lost me when Gilmore Girls ended, they lost me when OTH ended and now with the wrong decision to cancel Secret Circle i will never watch the network again.

  • Nikki

    @ Alexis ive said that same exact thing a million times put VD at 9 and i think Secret Circle would have had a different outcome.

  • Jamie

    @Nikki

    You’re seriously delusional. One Tree Hill ended because the cast wanted to move on and you’re making out it’s the networks fault.

    You also answered your own statements… they kept Dixie because it’s cheaper, repeated better and had an awful lead-in.

    9O21O, you think it should be canceled because it was doing bad in its FOURTH season, compared to TSC’s first?

    Stupidity.
