CW rookie The Beauty & The Beast is currently a "toss up" for renewal or cancellation. Its ratings are too close to sophomore Hart Of Dixie's for me to make a call between them at this point (particularly if you factor out the BATB premiere). I hope there's some separation later in the season that will clear things up, but based on recent CW history that may be wishful thinking.

What is very clear is that a cadre of vocal fans of the 2011-12 casualty The Secret Circle hate The Beauty & The Beast with the fire of a thousand suns.

While the reasons for each fan's hate may be different, that doesn't stop me from asking what our readers think. Vote as many times as your fingers will allow!

Emily Owens, M.D. is certain to be canceled.

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Because the folks at the CW seem to like short final seasons for their veteran shows, 90210 could be renewed for a 13 episode final season next year, even with its terrible ratings, that's why it's just a "toss up" for cancellation or renewal. They could certainly re-ealuate their penchant for short final seasons if schedule time next season gets tight though. Read more about it here.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Every time you make a post: Whine whine whine, blah blah blah, omg TSC is the best show ever omg why did it get canceled i hate the cw i hope everything is a flop! waaaa! waaaa!

B&B has a full season, and the ratings have stabilized better than most of the new shows. Plus Kristin Kreuk which was one of the main reasons Smallville got picked up in the first place, and has a international fanbase will make this franchise more valuable. The Survival of Nikita and the reasons for keeping on the air, may enhance and give B&B more seasons for the same reasons.

B&B is a good show, and it is getting better with every episode.
Glad to the see the ratings move up in the last few weeks.

I was a fan of The Secret Circle and I would much rather be watching The Secret Circle because Beauty and the Beast bores me and I quit it.

Hart of Dixie is one of my fave CW shows. It’s fun and I look forward to it every week.

  • Lisa

I can’t wait to check out Cult.

  • Jonny C…. formerly Jon

[“In this case, let’s talk about Veronica Mars & Ringer ”

One crazy fanbase at a time, please]

Ha…Bill the CW wishes it still had Veronica Mars….

  • Tabitha

My issue with the CW is this, I watched Hellcats, yeah it wasn’t the best show but I watched it, ended with a cliffhanger and cancelled. I watched TSC it got a litte slow but started getting better, ended with a cliffhanger and cancelled. I think they really need to decide the shows fate before the end and have an episode that closes the show. I don’t think fans would be as nearly upset about the cancel if they do that.

I don’t want the shows to fail and I even watched 3 episode of B&tB but it was boring and I couldn’t get interested in it.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

@Tabitha, the CW isn’t any different than the other broadcast networks in that regard.

  • Ale

    @easy:

“Plus Kristin Kreuk which was one of the main reasons Smallville got picked up in the first place”

Ok, I like BatB and Kristin but NO she wasn’t one of the main reasons Smallville got picked up!!
    —————————————————————————-
My 2 cents, TSC fans are just bitter, I literally see them in every forum I visit and it’s annoying as hell.

Also I don’t get the “after VD shows just die” Years ago VD timeslot was Smallville’s follow by Supernatural and I didn’t saw SPN cancelled.

  • Lauren

Count me as one of the people who liked TSC and was sad it got canceled, but has moved on. As for BATB…saw a bit of it, but couldn’t get it. And therefore could care less about it…the title is misleading to me anyways.

  • Anthony C

    @ Sam

If you honestly think the CW is gonna renew nikita for fall with those ratings your betting on the wrong horse. At best it will be moved to summer to fulfill it’s Syndication purposes. Besides what network is gonna renew a television show for fall or midseason that is .2 away from a 0.0 rating. The CW gave nikita its chance by renewing it for a 3rd season and its failing big time. Getting a new timeslot is not gonna make the ratings budge its just fighting the inevitable. No need in renewing a show that isn’t doing the business in its own country just to get it to syndication in Asia. The CW can use those Friday timeslots put shows with loyal fan bases and steady ratings above 0.5. Example If hart of dixie moved to fridays it’s fanbase is pretty stable and will follow it to any day or time.

  • Mi

@Tabitha TSC’s ratings dropped in late March, after the season finale was already written and probably also shot.. what did you expect the CW to do? Use their crystal ball to know the sharp decline is coming and tell them to wrap up the show in advance?.. It’s TSC’s bad writing and killing too many characters just for shock factor that killed it.

  • easy

    @ Ale

Yup, she was one of the main reasons the WB picked up the show. Get the DVD season 1, listen to the comments of the producers and director. Kristin’s audition tape went straight to management and they picked up the series and the role of superman was not cast yet.

Kristin was so good at her job, that when TW (Superman) auditioned for the role and forgot some of his lines, Kristin helped him remember them. He stated this for years.

  • Anthony C

    @ Sam

let’s just agree to disagree and wait until May to see what goes down. I think nikita is done and you think it’s getting renewed for a full season. Although I love the fact you are so ride or die for Nikita..lol.

  • Tyler

I personally choose option 3 “The CW screwed over TSC & its fans, so now all their shows must fail!” because I’m still mad that they canceled TSC. In order to have my anger and also enjoy other shows that I like I made a compromise. The only CW television shows I will watch now are Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries and not any show that started after they cancelled TSC.

What’s with people saying Beauty and The Beast sucks when all they’re admitting of seeing of the series is 15 minutes or just the pilot alone? No logical person would say a series sucks based on the viewing of just 1 episode, let alone 15 minutes of it.

Anyway, I personally really enjoy Beauty and The Beast and with each passing episode, the series gets better and better!

I honestly foresee it getting a second season, because unlike TSC it’s doing well on itunes and it’s airing in more markets outside the US than TSC was this time last year. Also the series budget and cast isn’t as big as TSC last season.
