Will 'Whitney' Improve NBC's Wednesday Ratings? - Poll

Wednesday has been full of woe for NBC this season. After scheduling one of the season's biggest bombs, the canceled Animal Practice, in the 8PM slot, the network is now trying to improve its ratings with tonight's return of Whitney. Last season, the series debuted to a strong 3.2 adults 18-49 rating in the Thursday at 9:30PM timeslot but quickly declined. Midseason, it moved to Wednesday at 8PM. Its first season finale, which aired on March 28, 2012, scored a 1.6. How do you think it will fare in season 2? Make your predictions and discuss your reasoning in the comments.

I’m hoping for a 1.8 or higher for Whitney and really hoping Guys With Kids can grow out of its lead in

  • Samunto

This did pretty well in the spring and the repeats on Fridays were very promising too. Since the competition is even less without Idol i think it could get a 2.0 ( i hope so).

It’s an easy to swallow easy going sitcom. I say and hope atleast 2.0!

I am guessing that Whitney will do about 1.8, which is better than AP. If Whitney adopt AP’s monkey, it maybe a rating of several several tenths on the up side.

Love Whit, but sadly, there’s too much on at Wednesday at 8. I’ll say 1.9

1.8, but it’ll dip to it’s regular 1.6′s soon. I doubt Whitney’s bothered if it bombs anyway since her new show starts in a few weeks.

  • ABC hater

    1.4-1.5, but maybe higher.

Whitney Cummings likely makes $50k+ per episode, so she probably is bothered. A show on E! doesn’t pay as well.

  • Nick

    1.8-2.0

    People actually like this show.

Also guessing the same for the dramas. GWK, 1.6-1.8.

I think Whitney will pull mid-1′s. Definitely not a great number, but better than what Animal Practice was pulling. I think NBC will be happy with anything higher than a 1.5 at this point. TNN got a 1.8 last night and is likely to be renewed. Parks and Rec has been pulling similar ratings (I think it was a 1.7 last Thursday). Anything in that range will be awesome for the time period.

I doubt the expectations are that high given the finale’s 1.6. I’ll be somewhat surprised if it gets anything higher than that.

Whitney will most likely rate better than Animal Practice, but not by much. I think it will get around a 1.5 or 1.6. Personally, I don’t know why NBC isn’t airing Whitney and Guys with Kids on Fridays at 8 and 8:30. I think they would be a much better fit for that night.

Well the key here is that NBC promoted it more than I thought they would so the awareness should be there for fans and casual viewers to tune in.

Senor Chang brought up a great point that people underestimate Whitney too much and it over performed before Idol started. I actually remember when people were shocked at how high Whitney got that week.

I think Whitney actually gets close or outperforms that timeslot premiere in January. Somewhere high 1s and low 2s and somewhere close to 6 million viewers.

I’m also interested in seeing how Guys with Kids performs out of Whitney. GWK has surprisingly been a demo player so Whitney can be beneficial to it. Also SVU and Chicago Fire who need another boost this week.

1.8, next week will be 1.6 or lower

  • Dr. Giggles

For a show that was severely hated when it first came out it developed a fan base pretty quickly, people can’t wait to see the premiere tonight. I’m not thinking it will score big but I think it does way better than people are expecting.

You guys are crazy, this will be another failure I expect below 1.0 18-49 hahaha this show sucks.

  • Oliver

I’m convinced some people are being paid to make positive posts about this stinker of a show.

  • yiop2886

I’m also convinced that some people are being paid to make negative posts about this program.

  • CP

I still don’t know why networks continue to promote and put shows like this and the Mindy Project on the air. Unfunny and unattractive lead actresses don’t sell.

  • Adam Newman

Yeah I see Whitney rating way better than Animal Practice, I got it at a 1.9/5.50m.

  • Justin

    @Adam Newman

    I agree.

  • Curt

GWK grew out of it’s terrible AP lead-in every week. It even grew in it’s re-run position behind the Go On re-run last Friday. It will not drop off Whitney’s number. And Whitney will maintain if not beat it’s average numbers from last season since it’s a premiere and has been promo’d well. 2.0 for Whitney, 2.0 for GWK. Neither of these shows are runaway successes, but they have their fans. Good to see NBC sticking with something rather than the broken system of canceling shows after a few airings. Viewing habits are not what they once were and never will be.
