Wednesday has been full of woe for NBC this season. After scheduling one of the season's biggest bombs, the canceled Animal Practice, in the 8PM slot, the network is now trying to improve its ratings with tonight's return of Whitney. Last season, the series debuted to a strong 3.2 adults 18-49 rating in the Thursday at 9:30PM timeslot but quickly declined. Midseason, it moved to Wednesday at 8PM. Its first season finale, which aired on March 28, 2012, scored a 1.6. How do you think it will fare in season 2? Make your predictions and discuss your reasoning in the comments.

Of course it will help the ratings compared to the show it replaced, but I don’t see this becoming a solid part of the NBC lineup.

  • don juan

I’m saying 1.6 at most. Certainly better then animal practice.

  • Mr Mumble

Whitney should manage at least a 2.0 rating, perhaps even 2.3-2.4 in its premiere. Expect the show to be canceled next May though. A slide into 1.3-4 territory is very likely and you don’t get renewed with those numbers unless syndication is a factor.

  • MDM

Close to 1.9, it will do well but I don’t really see it taking viewers away from the Middle, different demographics. Both are funny shows. Will watch The Middle live, and DVR Whitney.

“A slide into 1.3-4 territory is very likely and you don’t get renewed with those numbers unless syndication is a factor.”

It got renewed with those ratings last year.

  • Joe

    Whitney: 1.5
    Guys with Kids: 1.3
    SVU: 1.8
    Chicago Fire: 1.6

  • Joe

Don’t understand the 2.0 predictions. It hasn’t gotten the high since it aired after The Office, why would it start now after a 6 month hiatus? If it can match or improve upon the 1.6 it ended with, NBC will be happy.

  • Apple-Dice

Um Joe, January 11th, look those ratings up. It’s the same type of scenario tonight except there was more repeats on that night and no Idol.

First off, I don’t watch this show or UAN but began to follow the battles on TVbtN between the two fanbases last year. I just didn’t get why one had to die so the other could live mentality that seemed to develop. I think NBC did and continues to do all they can to salvage UAN not because they like the show but because they like the people on & behind the show … like for instance giving UAN the ‘safe’ Thursday 2130 slot and tossing Whitney to the 2000 wolves on Wednesday … strange thing was Whitney held it’s own, relatively speaking, while UAN continued to crash & burn … and still continues to crash & burn this year yet NBC is setting up UAN 3.0 for the spring.

My guess is Whitney settles into a 1.5 ~ 1.7 range over time while tonight gets a 1.8 ~ 1.9 … I hope it does well because I’ve come to enjoy the haters begin to twitch & froth the next day in the ratings post.

As an aside to the guys who don’t like the show because Whitney has a lower center of gravity than you’d like to see … ??? … who cares? You know there are “special” channels/DVDs/VHSs you can get that will fulfill your need for these urges right? … or are just afraid you’ll see your moms in one of them again?

    Whitney: 2.2
    GWK: 1.9
    SVY: 1.7
    CF: 1.8

Answer: Yes, it will help NBC Wednesdays.

  • CBSViewer

If it beats Animal Practice which is not hard, the Show will be Renewed for sure :)

  • HalCapone

NBC’s Wednesday is their equivalent of ABC’s Tuesday: a lot of hemorrhaging going on. 1.4 for Whitney.

  • Darcy

    I say 1.4
I’ve been optimistic about every show this year and I’ve been wrong every time, so I don’t have high hopes.

  • Oz

Who thought Whitney was funny in the first place? I can’t believe it got another season.

  • Nick

    The Middle: 2.7
The Neighbors: 1.8 [ties series low]
    Modern Family: 5.0
    Suburgatory: 3.1 [season high]
    Nashville: 2.0

    Survivor: 2.8
Criminal Minds: 2.9 [ties season low]
    CSI: 2.4

    Arrow: 1.2
    Supernatural: 0.9

    The X Factor: 2.7

    Whitney: 1.7
    Guys With Kids: 1.4
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: 1.7
    Chicago Fire: 1.7

Whitney will do much better than Animal Practice, but not spectacular. It’s not that bad a show. Also, NBC released the whole first season free online and on demand over the summer. That helped Grimm stay steady (although it didn’t help Up All Night…).

    1. Fox: 2.8
    2. CBS: 2.7
    3. ABC: 2.67
    4. NBC: 1.65
    5. CW: 1.05
lmao! The other three networks within 0.2 of each other, and NBC is competing with the CW for last place. lol

  • Pure Playaz

Whitney is too damn funny I remember that one episode when she was playing basketball last year and she was embarrassing her boyfriend. Can’t wait for it in a couple of hours.

  • Mary 1

None of the comedies have done well for NBC on Wednesday so I don’t expect this one to be any better. I think it’ll get either a 1.4 or a 1.5

  • Bobby C

Good to see Whitney is back tonight! Will definitely tune in!

  • Brian

  • lol Cummings

I’m saying 1.5 max. This show is just meh, but NBC is even meh-er. meaning it wont score high
