It seems like when the soaps hit their rock bottom in the last few years it woke up the four remaining soaps and now their all HOT especially GH!

Frankie V. and Ron C. have really turned that ship around at GH its now a really high quality soap that mirrors the great days of the 90s. Not quite at the 80s just yet but its getting there. Who would’ve thought that GH would’ve gotten to 3 million viewers this fast plus it grows a lot out of The Chew making The Chew look bad. Next Monday’s rating with the return of Faison is going to be an interesting rating to look at.

DAYS has also turned it around maybe b/c of sweeps but its finally watchable all the way through and the numbers stay more in that 2.6 million range which was the first time that’s happened since DAYSaster. I would still really love to see NBC develop a new soap to go with DAYS.

CBS’ soaps have remained consistent as I think Y&R may really jump next week as the Victoria stuff is taking shape now. B&B also has Queen Stephanie sending off which was really emotional and well done. B&B does what it does best too and that’s the triangles as they look to have Bill replacing Ridge.

American soap operas are so bad, if I wanna watch unnecessary drama I go to univision.

  • debby

All GH needs now is Emma Samms to complete the show. Robert is not complete without his Holly.

  • Brad

I think people will like this article. It is about Y&R and even states that 30 to 40% of the people who watch the show watch it on the DVR!! That’s a hefty number. That would put Y&R above 6 million viewers plus 500,000 on SOAPnet. Soaps aren’t dying. There are just more People who are watching them from DVR/SOAPnet/Online ETC.

  • I like this show

@Greg when Marlena was possessed in the 90′s that’s when I first started getting into Days. Watched to basically the mid 00′s when it became absolute garbage with Sami/EJ being the ENTIRE show. I haven’t gone back and Kristen isn’t really a reason for me to go back.

Very Happy for GH success I can’t really say im a huge fan of a lot of the current story lines. Don’t really like Duke/Anna/Faison? AJ is quite annoying I don’t hate Dante and Lulu but when they are a focus I find them annoying as well. Robin returning will be interesting when it finally happens. Sonny/Connie thing will be nice when it comes to a happy conclusion. Sam looking for Jason will be good.I NEED more Todd Manning wit.

  • Missy

I watch and love both Dool a part of my life for 21 years and gh I watched on and off for 5 years I find most of gh watchable except for fake duke and faison i don’t like faison .

  • Patrick

GH just keeps getting better and better! Thank you Frank and Ron. I haven’t wanted to tune in everyday since the mid 90′s but they have me hooked. Very excited with Lucy coming back and the Nurses Ball. I totally agree that Brenda needs to come back because her last go around was such an awful return. I love when her and Carly go head to head, and imagine scenes with Todd, Carly, Brenda and Sonny! We need a little more Alexis time and they need to get Lexi back as Kristina, pronto! We also need more Felicia and Mac and I really like Ellie, Maxie and Spanelli. Ellie needs to be tied into someone on the show, like Mac’s long lost daughter! And hope Ron and Frank keep Ned and Skye around, and it would be nice to see Dillion, even if he is recast!

  • Patrick

One more thing, since Faison use to be obsessed with Felicia, let’s have had him keeping Georgie somewhere too! What a waste it was when they killed Georgie Jones off!

  • Chad

When I learned that Stephanie’s character was being killed off on B&B, I have my TiVo set. I honestly cannot imagine B&B without Stephanie. Susan Flannery is a top-notch performer. Just my opinion, I do not think it will be worth watching without the Stephanie on the canvas! Oh, and congrats to GH.. keep up the good work, and the more viewers will tune in!!!!

  • Troy Turner

For the poster that’s not convinced that GH is safe yet, that’s a reasonable argument except for one thing: When it gets to the time of year when GH’s numbers get compared to the numbers of The Revolution instead of OLTL’s final weeks-the numbers will clearly show that ABC has NO CHOICE but to renew GH.

  • Mike

    @Chad,

I think that I would fully agree with you about Stephanie, if B&B had not been doing so well this last year with the vets on backburner big time.

Don’t get me wrong I am going to miss Stephanie as well as Ridge big time. But I have to give Brad Bell credit, he did what a lot of shows have not been able to do. He backburnered his long time vets who had carried story for years. This show was the Ridge, Brooke, Stephanie show for years, but this last year he switched the focus of the show and developed characters that struck a chord. Last spring B&B was dropping big time and then all of a sudden their ratings took off.

It will now be time to see if they can hold on to any of that. I hope so, but Stephanie being gone will leave a hole in the show. But maybe the fact that she really hasn’t been the front burner story for a long time won’t hurt them too bad.

  • Kayla Rae

I agree with you, @NBC is awesome, the whole fake Duke story on GH is so silly and defies belief…to think that this guy is wearing a prop mask of sorts and no one can detect where the mask ends at the neck….LMFAO!!! How ridiculous to say the least…oh well!

DOOL is still the best soap on tv!

  • Kayla Rae

I agree that the Marlena possessed story on DOOL was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I couldn’t get enough of it! Would love to see that storyline explored again!

  • rocky

GH, be there or b soooo square, bettr thn ANYTHING on day OR nite time !!!

  • I like this show

ROFL someone wearing a mask NOT BELIEVABLE….demonic possession TOTALLY BELIEVABLE….mmmmk….

  • Mike

Just saw this linked on another site, and went there and read it. Interesting editorial on the daytime ratings looking at network and syndication as well.

Neat to see how so many shows compare to one another.

  • Chrisann D

Kayla, The thing I like about soaps is that things happen on them that wouldn’t and couldn’t happen in real life. Soaps take situations to the extreme and thats what keeps me tuning in.
I’m hoping all soaps continue growing past Nov. sweeps numbers. Goooo soaps! Keep us tuning in!

  • robert

Love Y@R. It will take time for the new regime to fix the show. The old Y@R will eventually return.

  • jonboyelk

@Rodney totally agree with your take on the Y&R. I remember back in the day when not every character knew everyone else. Often times certain characters never interacted and played out different storylines. When you stop to think about it do you know everybody in your town? They certainly do in Genoa City, Salem and Port Charles.

  • bruceboy

Rodney re your take on Y&R today … I couldn’t disagree with you more … this is not 1994 and no amount of wishing it so is going to make it so my friend … today’s soap viewers, for whatever reason, do not have the time, patience or desire to sit through story lines that go on and on and on as Bill Bell made them. You and I may not like that but that is the fact. The best soaps today have writing that crackles and pops … look at the ratings of shows like REVENGE and the new Dallas on TNT. The new DALLAS, in particular, shows how a new team can come in and take an old, beloved SOAP and bring it into the modern world while keeping it’s old viewers happy.

Y&R’s viewers have already been insulted by the dragged/dropped/rinse and repeat cycle of the MAB years …. now the new team comes in and pretty much does the same ….
