Definitions:
DVR (Time-shifted) Adults 18-49 Ratings – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs.
Live+Same Day(Live+SD) ratings include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing.
Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
DVR Ratings Increase Past Airdate - How many people watched the show on their DVRs within 7 days following the airdate
Until the 2009-2010 season, we used a show's LIVE program rating or viewership as the base upon which the LIVE+7 day DVR viewing was added. Now, the press seems to be standardizing around using LIVE+SAME DAY DVR viewing as the base for the calculations, so that's what we do now as well.

TVD 2.1 wow
666 was still cancelled so what’s the difference?
For all the complaining about Happy Endings timeslot, the show can’t crack a 2.0 with DVR included.
A 2.1 for Vampire Diaries, looks like more people have started watching it this season. Wonder if it’ll keep rising next year if they manage to sell it in syndication.
It looks like the Supernatural viewers have moved to live viewing which is good for Supernatural and the CW. It’s just odd to not see it on this list anymore.
Chicago Fire doesn’t look too bad with that 2.4 demo. I think NBC has to move it away from SVU. Where it could air with a solid lead in though, I don’t know.
Where are the people who were saying that Revenge is not a hit ?
And it looks like we are stuck with HoD for an extra year
It’s not like these numbers matter, since this was the “breakout” week because of the storm.
BBT is just a hair behind MF in the demo jump, but in total demo numbers there is no competition…7.2 vs a 6.3 isn’t that close, both are good but only one can win and this week BBT win is absolute.
Grimm doing well here as usual.
What the point of the Live +7 ratings anyway? It doesn’t make a difference in the long run if a show is renewed or cancelled.
I have never see these ratings make a difference. Am I missing something?
Seeing these numbers makes me wonder something. If you factored out the DVR portion of L+SD ratings and just went with live viewership what do the CBS numbers for BBT and 2 and a Half Men look like? Obviously BBT is DVR’d to a much greater degree which might explain in part why it can get a 5.7 and Men a 4.1. Ultimately those numbers don’t make much difference beyond curiosity factor for me but it is something I ponder from time to time.
Nashville is a beast in this numbers…
I saw POI on several of these lists & TGW on one. Didn’t see GA anywhere, though.
@ Mary
It’s interesting that a canceled show increased 77%. It should add more fuel to the ratings debate fire.
@THE OLD MAN,
Didn’t see GA anywhere, though.
That’s because it didn’t air that week, ABC had the CMAs Nov. 1st instead of their regular schedule.
Grey’s didn’t air this week due to CMA Awards.
Wednesday seems to be a big DVR night. All three 10pm shows from that day make both all three charts.
I see 666 is a very big hit, lol. DVR gains will be more than live rating soon.
I read that the execs don’t care about the DVR ratings, they don’t get paid for the advertising when shows are DVR’d. So if ratings are low with live viewing but great with DVR like 666, it doesn’t matter, it will be cancelled, which it has unfortuantely.
@Sherri,
Ad rates are set based on commercial viewing within the first 3 days. So some DVR viewing does count. But unsurprisingly advertisers aren’t willing to pay for people who fast forward through their commercials, so the majority of DVR viewing doesn’t help renewal chances.
