Few fan reactions surprise me after five years of working on the site, so while the worry from some Glee fans didn't surprise me, it did prompt me to write this post.

Yes, Glee ratings are well below their heyday, but the show is still Fox's #2 rated live action scripted show this Fall. Unless the cast or producers decide to call it quits (which I don't try to predict), it's coming back next season.

The observant will note that Ben & Kate is now predicted as certain to be canceled as its ratings slowly descend. I wanted to get Glee in the headline this week, so expect Ben & Kate in the headline next week.

Two years ago when Fox's Lone Star, "Lone Star'd" its premiere rating (1.3) it was yanked after its second episode (which had a 1.0). This season, The Mob Doctor has been nearly as woeful (1.5, 1.3, 1.0, 0.9, 1.0, 0.8) and yet looks like it will air most or all of its 13 episode order before vanishing.

Raising Hope is predicted as "certain to be renewed" even with its somewhat weak early ratings. While the syndication gods ruling Fox aren't quite as predictable as those ruling CBS, it would take nothing short of a cataclysm to prevent the show from getting a fourth season. Read more about it here.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Why didn’t Lone Star premiere this TV season? At least we’d get all 13. I loved that pilot!

  • Tony ^_^

As long as “New Girl” continues to live on, FOX could keep whatever shows they want on the air! :D Lol…

  • ToXiX

Might as well renew The Cleveland Show since it rates better than most of Tuesday usually.

  • William

They should just cancel a bulk of these shows. Mob Dr. being on the air still is a sad joke and shows how terrible Fox is

  • tv#1

I think Fox will shove Raising Hope off to the Sunday 7 or 7:30 slot next season. Also, I could see them doing another season of The Cleveland Show just to boost its total episode count for syndication.

  • Jeff (Canada)

So now we have Lone Star’d and next season we’ll have the term Mob Doctor’d.

Ben & Kate, Mob Doctor, and Mindy Project can all go. Renew the rest. Hopefully Goodwin Games does well in the new year.

  • Justin121

    Best comedies currently on air:

    1- Ben & Kate

2- Suburgatory, 2 Broke Girls, Mindy Project.

I wish they go on. They offer something fresh.

  • gustavo

The first two episodes of LoneStar were great….way better that all the crap currently is Fox airing.

  • gustavo

The only show i like of FOX is The Mob Doctor.

  • THE OLD MAN

I liked Lone Star & REALLY LIKE The Mob Doctor–here’s hoping all 13 are aired!

FOX has far more to worry about than Glee

  • RG-X

Glee is pushing too much of their agendas in lifestyles – it needs to go! it’s lost it’s focus on the singing and too much focus of the political and lifestyle agendas. Enough already!

  • Joseph

RG-X: The singing was the worst part of Glee – it meant an episode of the Simpsons often had more time available for character and plot development. The show would improve tremendously if they knocked the singing down to one number per episode (max). Many episodes had ridiculously contrived plots for the sole purpose of squeezing a particular money-making song into the show somehow or performing several songs from one artist.

Glee doesn’t have “lifestyle agendas” because such things don’t exist. Being retired and playing golf each Friday is a lifestyle. Being gay (or black, etc.) isn’t a lifestyle… it’s just a facet of life.

  • Cirtral

I worry because it will be renewed! The show went down the gutter last season already.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“REALLY LIKE The Mob Doctor–here’s hoping all 13 are aired!”

I think that’s reasonably likely at this point.

  • Michael

Fox is pretty much done here.

    Mob Doctor=done.
    Fringe=done.
    Ben and Kate=done.

    All the rest….RENEWED.

As for Glee….Is next season the 4th or 5th? Regardless its gonna be renewed. But if I’m missing a season or two..5 or 6 years of that scummy show…well, Depending on the scenerio…next season may be its last, or the show could last for another 2 years. Either Way, it’s eventually gone…because people are beginning to tune out. Call it the “American Idol” effect.

  • Bob

I really liked Glee the first season and then unfortunately I watched the second season and that was way more than enough for me. Awful show it has become.

  • Ray

just canceled this damn horrible show! i don’t watch it anymore. bored ~~

  • Contrarian

Imo the only thing saving Glee is the collapse of the entire Fox lineup bar Sunday Animation. Would not be surprised if Glee falls below 2.0 by spring.

  • Lyndle

I find it funny that most people who dislike Glee have never really watched it. Sure it’s long fallen from s1′s stellar quality, but there are a lot more worse shows out there

Case and Point: Nearly every show on the CW, B&K, TNN ect.

Also, when judging the show, it’s always from the dramatic angle never a comedic angle. As for the songs, that’s always been Glee, deal with it.

  • Lyndle

I have been mostly okay with Glee’s ratings. What really made me worry is that I’m under the impression that Glee is a really expensive show to produce. I just wonder when does the cost outweigh the ratings?
