It's now been well reported across the interwebs that Chevy Chase is departing the cast of Community after all but two of the thirteen episodes for this (its fourth) season have already been produced.
We at TV by the Numbers love Gawker and while the headline for this post was Robert's imagining of how they might do it, it was my pleasure to pull the trigger.

Great headline.
Still, given it’s close to syndication and might still be a good show* despite all of the creative changes, perhaps this is a good thing. A new actor could give it more stories to tell and thus extend its life.
Of course, NBC needs a home for it where it might get viewers.
*I don’t think I’ve ever seen a full episode of the show, so I am going on the reactions of other people here.
Sensationalism much?
Shut up. Just shut up. I love Community. Screw you, writer.
It’s funny because I don’t care! I really do not care. I literally could not care less.
NO!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!! Why aren’t more people freaking out about this?!?!?!?!?!!? NO!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Community will not be the same without Chevy Chase, he was the funniest on the show. I’ll try to watch without him, but it will be hard. I hope I don’t give up the show because of this horrible news. CHEVY CHASE don’t leave us, we need you, so this show can remain funny. The ratings will even get worst than last season.
…and Dan Harmon left why?
@DSC– Harmon didn’t leave because of Chase feud, they’d basically made up about that as much as either could, both being stubborn, by the time season 3 finished airing. He was fired for various reasons only known to the studio.
@DSC
Oh, and also, they filmed the finale out of order, so that’s already done. The last 2 eps without Chase will not air last, according to reports.
I care a little bit about Chevy Chase (for work he did a long long time ago), but not at all about Community. It isn’t horrible, but the only place it’s a great TV show is in the minds of a handful of people who talk endlessly about it on the internet.
It’s not as bad as 30 Rock, give it that.
you are so funny!!!! i am still giggling over this ‘article’
Are these the same people who try to convince the non-fans that Community is the new Arrested Development?
Well it is a lot funnier than Go On, The New Normal, and Whitney combined. So it has that going for it lol
Bwah! Great title. Some fans are taking this far too seriously. Personally I like Community and am glad Chevy Chase is off. It’s sad when an actor’s bad behavior gets more attention than the show itself.
Seems a bit mean-spirited, but my gut says you won’t have much longer before the bear devours Community anyway.
LOL
checy chase is streets ahead!! left the show before it got cancled
Cannot stand Chase. He’s the reason I never wanted to check out Community. I am not sorry about this. Good riddance.
If they already filmed the finale before he left, and there will simply be 2 mid-season eps where he’s “out of town” or only heard on the phone, then the whole story is kind of a troll, and possibly just a way to get some pre-season buzz going.
Ultimately, the historical truth will be “Actor Nobody Likes Misses a Couple of Episodes of Unwatched Show’s Final Season, Is Let Out of Contract 2 Weeks Early.”
(BTW I’m a big fan of the show, and franly I’ve never been as interested in how the sausage is made than most people)
Does everyone remember how Robert Reed walked off the Brady Bunch before the final season finished shooting, and was missing from the last episode? No? Well, here’s Chevy’s Robert Reed moment.
I suppose I’m nobody…
