For nearly a quarter of a century, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were Hollywood royalty and their fiery romance -- often called “the marriage of the century” -- was the most notorious, publicized and celebrated love affair of its day. Swarmed by paparazzi worldwide, their love affair was played out entirely in front of the media from the time they met on the set of the major motion picture Cleopatra, left their respective spouses, married and divorced, only to remarry and divorce once again. Despite their roller coaster romance for the public eye to see, Liz and Dick shared an undeniable love greater than most people could ever dream of.

A+E Networks handles international distribution of Liz & Dick.

It was horrible. Lohan couldn’t even muster a decent English accent, let alone embody Taylor in any way. And she chewed more scenery than a beaver chews trees. Not in a fun way, either.

The guy who played Burton was okay, just totally dragged down by Lohan’s performance and a very boring script. Really, how many scenes do you need to have of their being hounded by the paparazzi and Liz complaining about it before you get the point?

  • Chris

It’s a terrible movie, but the ratings are not bad. Lifetime just can’t do much better than this, no matter how much promotion they do. I saw Lindsay Lohan’s face on a lot of buses, sure–I also saw Melissa George’s face on buses, and “Hunted” had 100k viewers last Friday. Promotion only does so much. Burton&Taylor are just not as big a story as they used to be. And did I mention it’s a terrible movie?

The ratings are fine, people hate Lohan so much that nothing she is involved in is spun in a good direction. She did a decent job, her baggage kills her as an actress though and her voice is just too raspy and harsh to do impersonations of other famous people. She is still not a bad actress and not bad looking either. Nice rack…real. I think she needs to stick to supporting roles and stay out of the news. People hate Tom Cruise just as much, say the same things about the guy. He is not nearly the star he used to be and is ridiculed on a daily basis by people who have never done 1 damn thing in their whole lives. He could buy everyone on this site a million times over.

Also like Chris said Burton and Liz are old news. I sincerely doubt a lot of people in the 18-40 grouping gave 2 craps about this movie or Liz Taylor.

  • Cas

I am not sure where people are getting the 1.0 rating. The article says 2.8 rating….

  • Cas

I also can’t believe Lifetime remade Steel Magnolias…seemed unneeded. How do you remake a classic like that?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

@Cas, that 2.8 is the household rating, which is PR fluff only.

The 1.3 million adults 18-49 is just over a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating.

to quote jay sherman it stinks thata all

  • Kenny

While watching this TURKEY i was reading a live TWITTER event with comedian Patton Oswald…He made the movie watchable because i was LAUGHING SO HARD…LMAO

  • rk

I’m surprised the numbers were that high………

“they reminded me of the SATC 2 reviews, more like personal vendettas. And it’s only female-driven movies that receive such vitriolic reviews.”

yes because the blatant racism had nothing to do with it. if it was just because it’s female-driven then why did SaTC 1 get better reviews? must be why hunger games, girl w/ the dragon tattoo and bridesmaids were reviewed so poorly… oh, wait…

  • Paul

I loved, loved loved the movie! Lindsay totally capture the essence of Elizabeth Taylor and I would not be at all surprised if she gets a Emmy award for outstanding actress in a TV movie. She was that good!

  • Twig

I’m so glad the real Liz and Richard missed this flop…Completely miscast…dialogue was laughable…acting was WAY over the top…
what an exploitation…Lindsay has absolutely derailed what was once a promising career…what an awful waste of time and production

  • Ralph Hahn

Bill O’Reilly lately gets better numbers than “Li(n)z & Dick.”
