Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    @ Queen I completely agree, I love both shows, I come on here to see how the ratings were/are. not to get in a heated arguement about what show suck. All shows have haters, but I want gloat just because of bad ratings. Talk about Scandal or Revenge all you want, I’m still going to be watching both of them..

  • Pfw51

    Once again… if The Mentalist isn’t pushed off into the nether past-bedtime hours by football overruns it gets good ratings. Proof that its still a popular show IF it is on at a time when people can stay up and watch it.

  • SarahL

    @CoolRanchDoritos

    Both Scandal and Nashville have been given full seasons (22 episodes) for this season, but they have such low ratings, it is impossible to know if either will be renewed.

  • TheFrenchGuy

    @ CBSviewers

    Viewership in France:

    - NCIS = 6 million
    - CSI = 7 million
    - CSI: NY = 5.5 million
    - Criminal Minds = 7.5 – 8 million
    - The Mentalist = 10 million
    - SVU = 2.5 million
    - Hawaii Five-0 = 3 million
    - NCIS: Los Angeles = 3.5 million
    - Bones = 3.5 million
    - Grey’s Anatomy = 7 million
    - Castle = 6 million

    It’s all i know about French ratings of American Shows (note that The Mentalist has more viewers in France than in the US).

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ aciel

    Don’t put him in my Demo!

  • Pavel

    I remember someone on here mentioning that the promo for last night’s episode of Revenge made it look like a comedy. I’m curious as to what was in that promo, since I didn’t see the promo, nor do I watch the show.

  • RJ

    @erwan from france,
    Marc over at TV Media Insights has them posted.

    @The French Guy,
    Thanks for posting those! With high numbers for CSI and CSI: NY, no wonder they are still on the air.

  • ToXiX

    No wonder Fox renewed Bobs Burger’s so early.
    With B&K & MP both below 1.5′s, fox looks really pathetic.

  • rosam

    TGW was so great last night..and the last scene…;)

  • r0ckmypants

    @SarahL – Please read my entire post before calling me out. I said that both Revenge and Scandal are at levels currently that will get them renewed. And I think you misunderstood what I meant by “fighting for renewal.” I simply meant that they’re both in direct competition with each other because ABC renews and cancels shows based on ratings relative to their other shows, not to shows on other networks. So yes, of course they’re competing… it’s just not much of a competition right now because neither is in much danger due to lower-rated shows still being on the air.

  • erwan from france

    @The franch guy, la moyenne de bones n’est pas de 3.5 millions mais de 4.5 millions

  • erwan from france

    thenks @RJ, but i can’t see them, would you write them please ?

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ The French Guy

    Thanks for the post. Even though this allegedly has nothing to do with renewal prospects, nice to see all those CBS shows there.

    @ rosam

    Wasn’t that last scene just perfect! Did you catch the look she gave him when he first came to the apt? Excellent scene from an excellent show. (Not a Babble)

  • CoolRanchDoritos

    Oh i didn’t know Scandal was picked up for a full season thought we were only getting like 13 episodes, thats good.

    I don’t watch Nashville but i’m glad for Jonathan Jackson. My shows are Rookie Blue, Revenge, 666 (but thats already gone :( ), Modern Family, The Middle, Scandal, DWTS, Maybe The Bachelor/Bachelorette (if i like the person)

    Don’t know why ppl stopped watching Scandal, it did ok last season, right.

  • SarahL

    @r0ckmypants

    Scandal is not currently at a level at which it will be renewed. It is a low rated show and is in danger of being cancelled.

  • Jon

    Revenge is having a winter finale??? How long is it going on hiatus? I sure hope that doesn’t hurt it. I understand the drop last night, it was a flash back episode and it wasn’t really that exciting

  • Greg

    Was NOT happy with what the gay team did on Amazing Race last night. I’m gay and I felt like they have given gay people a bad reputation. Last week their “friends” Ryan and his girlfriend STAYED behind and WAITED for them to COMPLETE their task (which took them forever to do!) yet last night the gay boys could NOT do the same for Ryan and his girlfriend when Ryan/gf got U-turned! Instead they wished them well and went on their merry little selfish greedy ways. Ryan/gf got eliminated. I lost all respect in those 2 gay guys. I hope they go home next episode. Can’t stomach them. And what is it with The Amazing Race always having gay guys who are unattractive and there’s always one with a big alien head?!!! So sick of that!

    Not happy but am gay in Dallas….

  • Jon

    Why does America’s funniest home videos continue to survive the chopping block? Isn’t it about time to do away with it?

  • Bern

    Ouch at Revenge. Last night episode was kind of boring.] so it deserves it. This upcoming Sunday episode of Revenge is going to be GREAT. Wondering if someone dies by the sneak peek.

  • Tom

    Am I the only one who think that family guy could do better ratings if it airs at 8? Maybe it could do better ratings than the simpsons. The animation domination depends on football XD

    The good wife should air on friday.
