What is it in the water at the Two and a Half Men set that makes its actors bite the hands that pay them millions of dollars a year?

While it's amusing to see yet another highly paid actor misplace his marbles, it's probably irrelevant to the future of the show. TAAHM is CBS' #2 rated show this season, and they'll pull out all the stops to keep it on the air, that's why it will remain "certain to be renewed". As always, my predictions do not attempt to take into account the showrunner or producer deciding "to heck with these whackjob actors, I'm done!"  and walk away from his own pile of money. Insistent commenters are free to do so, of course.

CBS has debuted three new dramas every Fall since 2006-7. I'd expect them to do the same next Fall. So unless they have some schedule wizardry up their sleeves I haven't seen before (holding back Undercover Boss won't help!) they'll need to cancel three of their Fall 2012 dramas to make room for three more next Fall. With Made In Jersey gone, and Vegas a likely cancellation, that means one more Fall drama must go. It's virtually certain that CBS will cancel one of CSI:NYThe Good Wife, or The Mentalist.  And if spring drama Golden Boy is renewed, two from that list will need to be canceled.

Why are Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods "certain to be renewed"? Both dramas are in their third seasons and need a fourth to reach the "magic" 88 episodes for stripped syndication. Both are "certain to be renewed" for their fourth seasons next year. Read more about that here.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

After this week, I think Elementary should be in toss-up. Even if it got the post-Superbowl slot, it still struggles to grab on an audience.

Who knows how that would affect it’s ratings. It was great for The Voice but not so much with Animal Practice with regards to the Olympics.

“After this week, I think Elementary should be in toss-up.”

Then you’ll have to start your own predictions website.

Even at a 2.2 rating, it’s at 85% of the CBS scripted average for recent weeks (~2.6) when they had most or all of their shows running.

85% is still at the low end of the “likely renewed” range based on past experience.

Unlikely that many predictions will change until I start using calendar 2013 ratings exclusively. Then, the numbers may move some shows up and others down.

    As the young actor of two and a half somethings said, it is a filthy show and viewers should not watch it ! And also as far as God our creator says also it is a filthy show. And should not be watched or in other words it is a sinful show and shouldnt be watched. We are not to go after the filthy conversation or lifestyle of the wicked. As much though as God hates sin aTnd the sin of sodomy he also loves the sinner who is caught up in his sins. And God did something about it , he sent his only begotten Son , the Lor Jesus Christ into the world to save sinners from their sins and to seek and to save that which was lost. And he died for all the sins on the world on the cross including sodomy,murdur,hatred,lust,uncleanness,drunkenness and the like. Yet he also was buried, and rose bodily from the dead the third day ,was seen of men, and went back up to heaven bodily. And all who will repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Saviour will be saved and go to God’s heaven when they believe on him with all their hearts.That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus , and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead ; thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9. In the Authorized King James Holy Bible, the inspired and preserved word of God. And ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. And find a good Independent Baptist or Bible Church to go to a hear the preaching and teaching of God’s word. To grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ after you are saved or to hear the gospel and God’s word more. Sincerely ;

Why have we not seen “Rules of Engagement” this season? It is better than most of the sitcoms except for Two and a Half Men and Big Bang.

TAAHM (Kutcher version) has got to be the worst series to ever dis-grace the face of television. There is no rhyme or reason as to why anyone in their right mind would watch this piece of crap; can’t believe it’s still taking up superfluous room on the airwaves, especially with so many good shows being cancelled.

  • Helen

@NE1 – Really!!! You have got to be kidding! A decent show? I would hate to think what you would consider to be indecent.

While The Mentalist and Good Wife look tied on your chart, the C3 ratings tell a different story. The Mentalist beats Good Wife in C3 by about 18% on average.

That damn kid makes 300.000 per episode. 10 seasons x~22 episodes and that damn kid has something more than 60.000.000 dollars. Of course he doesnt have to work in his life at all and live comfortable and he wants out cause he is lazy.

all he did in that show for 10 years was to fart and get stoned.

i want myself to also fart for 10 years and make 60 million .

Bill Gorman-you need to get a life. people are entitled to their opinion, Chuck Lorre is an ass and he’s already proved he doesn’t care who he hires as long as he makes money. He hired the biggest sleaze in hollywood, Kutcher and paid him the most money, just to try and prove a point with Sheen, both you two need to get over your ego’s.
