11/28 Update: Emily Owens, MD has been canceled.
-
As many commenters have noted, the CW hasn't released its entire mid-season/spring schedule yet. One likely reason for that could be that it won't include Emily Owens, M.D. and networks typically want to put out bad news for shows that are still airing as late as possible. Emily Owens is certain to be canceled by the end of the season.

CW dramas The Beauty & The Beast,  Hart Of Dixie and 90210 are all still "toss ups" for cancellation or renewal by the end of the season. Unlikely those predictions change before the end of 2012.

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    no matter what, CW is the most popular US network overseas, and their products proved to be very successful around the globe, especially gossip girl and nikita. it’s a fact, fans of high-rating shows who like to condemn CW, DEAL WITH IT.

  • poweranimals

    Oh and CW has just added an extra episode to Arrow. It’ll now have 23 eps.

  • Hades

    @javier

    CW shows certainly arent the most popular in the UK which is probably one the biggest importers of US shows.

    1. Anna May Wong holds the title of first Asian star of an American series wtih The Gallery of Madame Liu-Tsong.

    2. How can CW sustain itself with such low ratings? They must be losing money drawing so few viewers.

  • nola

    CW = FLOP!

  • Hades

    @javier

    CW shows are also probaly the cheapest shows to buy for foreign markets, there was talk of several shows even being packaged up together and sold.

  • Jarrod

    I know that Supernatural, The Vampire Dairies and Arrow may be expensive to make, but with the ratings doing so well and getting the audience they need, I don’t understand why they don’t just renew them for 24 episodes each? The shows do extremely well, it means less repeats, it’s more beneficial for them and it means more episodes for syndication, which means more money. I may be jumping the gun with Arrow, but it just got ordered 23 episodes, so I gather The CW has confidence in it too.

  • JJA

    @Jarrod–In the case of Vampire Diaries, they cannot accomodate more than 22 episodes per season. This became an issue last year, when the CW asked for bonus epsidoes of VD (as they did for GG, 90210, Supernatural and Nikita). My guess is that Supernatural & Arrow cannot accomodate more than 23 episodes, otherwise they CW would have given Supernatural a 24th episode this season.

  • Promoist

    2013 Schedule will have Arrow and Amazon on the network. Arrow is the highest rated show on the cw. It will usher in Amazon which is currently being developed. Amazon is a show based on Wonder Woman.

  • Promoist

    As for Owens I’m sure it will have its series finale in dec before the holidays with gossip girl. Carrie diaries is already confirmed to be taking Mondays so I’m putting my money on cult replacing Owens on a diff night. 90210 needs to end it’s too hard to watch that’s why the ratings suck.

    MEMO

    TO: CW Network Executives, Show Runners & Producers
    From: The Syndication Gods

    Subject: CW Specific Casting

    Thank you for complying with our previous note on casting hot/sexy Asian women. However, despite our godlike powers, we are unable to boost your domestic ratings. May we suggest you only hire actors who have large families … lots of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles. We trust this assists you with your casting decisions.

  • robin

    @Promoist

    TVD is the highest rated show. TVD avg=1.4 arrow avg=1.2

  • Promoist

    Look at the numbers on wiki: ep 1 – 4.14 ep 2 – 3.55 ep 3 – 3.51 ep 4 – 3.05 ep 5 – 3.75 ep 6 – 3.83. Vs. 3.18 2.91 2.87 3.27 3.02. 2.84. So @robin u clearly don’t know what ur talking about…….

  • Promoist

    Vamp hasn’t had one epi over 3.5 let alone 3.3 and arrow has had every episode over 3.5 aside from the 3.05 during the hurricane so I rest my case.

  • Promoist

    Arrow = the 1 cw show. Which goes to my previous case bring in amazon which is being planned by arrows writer. CW needs more action shows as we can see vamp arrow supernatural etc are drawing in ratings over pase “teen” shows such as 9 and gg which I still support to this day. I think cw needs to restructure themselves big time.

  • Anthony C.

    @Promoist

    Amazon won’t make it past development. Other networks have tried and failed to develop a wonder woman series. This one won’t be any different because as of yet there is no one attatched to write or produce it.

    Besides the people who developed Arrow are already developing the new series The Tomorrow People for the CW which will most likely be the Arrow’s companion series. Basically Sleepy Hollow, The Tomorrow People, & Embrace have the best chances of going to series this fall because the CW already has their writers and producers set for those shows scripts to be written and produced.

  • Brandy

    Promoist,Robin is talking demo(which matters more to networks),not total viewers.VD has beaten or tiedArrow in demo,plus anyone can edit Wikipedia.Plus VD usually adjusts up,averaging 1.2-1.5 while Arrow averages 1.3

  • Promoist

    @brandy the info from wiki is credited from this website and I check it every week on thurs after arrow is on either way if u tie both in arrow is still the highest rated show if it has more viewers plain and simple. @Anthony I think it will get picked up I’m hopin it will but I got mixed up the writer of arrow is working on a booster gold series for sci fi which is starting to be written in dec before Xmas I just read about it today on comicbookmovie.com

  • Promoist

    And brandy she said it was the “highest rated show” which it’s now arrow is
