The Mob Doctor was an early favorite in cancellation pools across the land when it debuted with a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating and fell further in subsequent weeks. Since then, while several other shows have been axed, it has managed to outrun the Cancellation Bear.  FOX has just announced that all 13 episodes that were filmed will air, though a couple are getting the dreaded Saturday burn-off. Though the program's continued existence has made it the subject of a lot of jokes, in all fairness it premiered early, before it became clear that many new shows were going to perform poorly this season. Its ratings actually rose to a 1.2 this  week, up from a 0.9 on November 19.

Per Deadline, the final four episodes of The Mob Doctor will air on Saturday, Dec. 29, Monday, Dec. 31, Saturday, Jan. 5, and Monday, Jan. 7.  Since no more were ordered, go ahead and consider it canceled.

The funny thing is, I started to actually pull for it to gain some ratings traction and grow its fanbase. I guess I just like the underdog.

There are a lot of worse shows than MD. We have enjoyed it.

  • Derek

I can’t help but wish FOX had been this patient with Lone Star.

  • chezmoi

Fox’s Killer Instinct was similar! By the way what is the new program called Killer Instinct?

    @Derek

Lone Star in fact premiered 2 tenths lower than The Mob Doctor did

@Renee – No once Fringe ends, Touch will replace it on Fridays beginning February 8 and KN will continue to air Fridays at 8. Besides why would they order more episodes of a low rated series. I understand FOX wanting to air what they ordered (Like ABC is doing with Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue) but to order more eps is crazy.

We all knew that FOX was committed to airing all 13 episodes no matter what and that The Mob Doctor was just a bridge until The Following premiered. FOX probably didnt want to cancel a show until May so they wont say its officially cancelled but we all know TMD isnt coming back. Thats probably why FOX they went into this season saying screw it, we’ll air everything without pulling a show and see what happens, any other season shows that pulled numbers like Ben & Kates, Mob Doctors, and Mindy Projects would have been axed immediately.

@RAGGEDT yeah, it was chicago, had nothing to do with the .08 it was pulling.

good show though. sad to see it go. though I did find it funny the made the police chief from chicago code a hooker or madam or whatever on this one.

FWIW the good wife & happy endings are not actually filmed in Chicago.

  • omabin

    Everyone knew it was coming.

  • s0303

it was actually a pretty good show…but of course it was inevitable…

With MD now officially cancelled, does that leave Emily Owens as the only Freshman show that hasn’t been given a full season order or cancelled?

  • Jackie

I love the “Mob Doctor.” Everytime there is finally a good show to watch, it gets taken off for some other dumb show. So many really stupid shows on TV. What is wrong out there in TV land??????

  • Brian

Maybe the stars can find a good show to put their talents in.

  • THE OLD MAN

Expected the news, but am enjoying it & am now considering it as a mini-series that concludes on the last weekend this year & the 1st in the new year.

  • forg

I wish Lonestar had this opportunity

  • a p garcia

Glad it is sleeping with the fishes. I am sure the Cancellation Bear is happy but still hungry.

  • Jordan

‘It ran out of episodes to air!’ New Fan Excuse Bingo square?

“With MD now officially cancelled, does that leave Emily Owens as the only Freshman show that hasn’t been given a full season order or cancelled?”

    I believe so.

Edit: Literally as I was typing that the news came out that it was canceled!

  • merrranga

thats pretty amazing bill. thats quite a small window. i clock my time to type ‘i believe so.’ and just under 2 seconds.

Fox is hampered with XFactor taking up so much time and relatively modest ratings. It didn’t order many shows and many of the shows they did put on were not sampled. They are nw throwing everything into the “Following” and heavily advertising American Idol. Maube one hit could turn around their season but it has been a very bad season for Fox who already eas going to lose the demos race heading into the Fall because CBS has the Superbowl but now Fox i in serious danger of not coming in 2 and could come in fourth.
