@Betty
Not to take sides, but CNN stands for Cable News Network. I can’t imagine you didn’t know that. So, I’m not sure what point you were trying to make.
Now, don’t come back swinging at me. Like I said, I’m not on anyone’s side. But, I found your post puzzling, and decided to comment.
Jayson, isn’t CCN Chicken News Network or something ridiculous like that? I remember back in the recesses of my mind Ted Turner naming it something stupid like that.
I still remember the days when Fox News used to crush MSNBC in the key demo during Primetime. I guess those days are long gone.
I’m really shocked MSNBC is doing this well. I really thought canning Keith was the death nail. but Rachel is becoming a great leader in Cable News. in News overall. btw Fox News loooooves talking Demo’s. Why did that all of a sudden change to OVERALL viewers? lol. Everyone knows CBS loves canning shows with high viewership, it doesn’t matter if they pull in viewers, what’s good total viewership if they DONT SPEND MONEY!! Demo is everything!!!!!!
Beedavis,
You are right, that is funny, but it is also funny how now people here think ratings are super important and are a measuring stick for how smart the country is when before all they meant was there were a lot of stupid people watching television.
On a side note, are you a Brady Bunch fan? Or am I reading too much into the name?
Just because I keep hearing on here about this Key Demo thing being so great for MSNBC as if MSNBC is making some inroads because of the election, I went back and looked at what happened in the Cable TV ratings last December 2011. Here’s what one commenter said:
This is a quote:
QUOTE:
Fox News is the Conservative Entertainment channel. People who watch Fox watch it all day, with maybe a time out for Rush Limbaugh and bleaching their sheets. Any one of the Librul Communist Muslim network nightly newscasts has at least double Bill O Reilly’s ratings.
Also, note that while Fox News is #6 in overall viewers, its nowhere to be found in the 18-49 demo. That tells you that its audience is mostly retired geezers with way too much time on their hands. END OF QUOTE
How could you get handed 440K and loose 143K of them ?
Hannity is gone … I’m just waiting for Piers to beat his a$$ too.
Even a blank screen on Fox News could have made better numbers.
Maybe Fox should hire a progressive instead of Hannity… The biggest winner on Fox beside Bill O was a liberal… Shep smith.
So, Mark and any of you others on here that watch the Whitehouse News Channel MSNBC and think it’s some kind of great source for news, I take away from my last post that nothing has changed from December of 2011 to December of 2012.
In December of 2011 Whitehouse MSNBC key demoed sometimes better than FNC. BUT Whitehouse MSNBC is STILL so far behind FNC that’s really not even worth commenting about.
Who cares what the age of the viewers are. They all only have 1 vote…unless of course democrats use fraudulent voting to get elected
Way 2 Go Rachel Maddow and Lawrence ODonnell!! All Fox News programs have lost viewers and msnbc has gained, Poor Greta and Sean Insannity are sinking the most. Lets hope Fox trashes Sean soon. I’ve always said its quality not quanity, the content of Rachel and Lawrence is far more informative and interesting than the hate mongering, inconsistencies, and misinformation given by ALL the Fox opinion programs. Oh! with the exception of Shep who seems to be the only one that wants a long term future in news. So after the last election/wake up call the sheltered misinformed righties have turned away from their BS news source in droves after President Obama kicked their red a$$e$.
It feels really good to see the Neo cons be forced to realize, that America is far more liberal than they were lead to believe.
Jeff,
You think Rachel and Lawrence are more informative and interesting that is fine, we all have our opinions. But again, only Fox people lie? So before Fox news there were NO lies in the media?
Jeff: Then numbers for MSNBC are no different than they were last December 2011. Ouch!!! That must hurt.
@BevAG
I decided to take the bait and look up the cable news primetime demo ratings for Nov 30, 2011…one year ago. I found out that all Fox News Primetime shows have dropped significantly and all MSNBC shows have increased exponentially. Here are the results:
Key Demo 25-54 / Change from 2011
8PM:
O’Reilly = -38%
The Ed Show = +65%
9PM:
Hannity = -52%
Rachel Maddow = +45%
10PM:
Greta = -36%
Lawrence = +46%
11PM Repeat:
O’Reilly = -27%
The Ed Show = +31%
Ouch!!! That’s gotta hurt!
Fox viewers are losing anthuesism to watch cable news since the republicans to a beating ob election night .obama got 4 more years so i guess the miserable fox sheep have moved on
James: Just regrouping.
@BevAG
Primetime Key Demo One Year Later:
Show……Then / Now
O’Reilly…704 / 440
Ed Show….188 / 310
Hannity….617 / 297
Rachel…..264 / 384
Greta……392 / 252
Lawrence…237 / 345
As you can see, Fox News used to destroy MSNBC in the Primetime key demo. But that’s no longer the case. So when you say nothing has changed from last year, you’re dead wrong! Better luck next time, lol.
BobbyTV
MSNBC is a one trick pony. Slam the GOP. Don’t question anything but the GOP, insult the GOP. They don’t offer anything but anti-GOP rhetoric. It’s a shame the young are so gullible. I remember being young and liberal thinking. Then I bought a home started a family and a business and saw the light.
@Moncon
…and Fox News isn’t? All Fox News does is bash our President and the Liberals/Progressives who try and seek out change. I’m just glad to see that America is finally waking up and seeing Fox for what it is…a propaganda machine for the Republican Party.
And to think, Mark, you have no problems with MSNBC being a propaganda machine for the Whitehouse.
Typically CNN’s ratings compete with CNBC, HLN and if the would include Fox Business Network.
I went to Purdue University during the 1970s, when icame to football we talked about winning the Little 8 since Ohio St and Michigan usually won the Big 10 title.
FCN and MSNBC are competing with each other to win the title for the Cable News audience while the other are competing for the distance third place. The MSNBC and FCN audience is typically 2 to 5 time the audience of CNN. You would think that CNN was a new network and not the original cable news network.
But, I do not think that we need another MSNBC or FCN. I do not think that they will find success by copying another Network. Zucker may have had his big hit, may of his other programing pushes went flat.
