After 30 years, The New York Times admits Reaganomics worked
Here’s the heart of the big New York Times story on taxes:
Most Americans in 2010 paid far less in total taxes — federal, state and local — than they would have paid 30 years ago. According to an analysis by The New York Times, the combination of all income taxes, sales taxes and property taxes took a smaller share of their income than it took from households with the same inflation-adjusted income in 1980.
Households earning more than $200,000 benefited from the largest percentage declines in total taxation as a share of income. Middle-income households benefited, too. More than 85 percent of households with earnings above $25,000 paid less in total taxes than comparable households in 1980.
Lower-income households, however, saved little or nothing. Many pay no federal income taxes, but they do pay a range of other levies, like federal payroll taxes, state sales taxes and local property taxes. Only about half of taxpaying households with incomes below $25,000 paid less in 2010.
********
As the NYT put it, “Congress cut federal taxation at every income level over the last 30 years.” But liberals keeping telling me that only the rich get tax cuts! Anyway, here’s an interesting statistic: Federal tax revenue as a share of GDP from 1954 through 1980 averaged 17.8%, while from 1981 through 2007, it averaged 18.1%. Lower taxes but more revenue. Hmmm ….
********
The NYT does point out how payroll taxes have risen, which especially affects middle-class households:
White House Data Debunk, Myth, Bush Cuts Built Deficit
While President Obama insists the Bush tax cuts caused the recession and record deficits, his own economists say otherwise.
He might want to consult their data for the truth.
Kicking off fiscal cliff negotiations last month, Obama said: “What I’m not going to do is extend Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% that we can’t afford and, according to economists, will have the least positive impact on our economy.”
During the White House press conference, he added, “If we’re going to be serious about deficit reduction, we’ve got to do it in a balanced way.”

MTV to debut ‘Buckwild’ in ‘Jersey Shore’ slot on Jan. 3 — EXCLUSIVE VIDEO
http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/11/29/mtv-buckwild-jersey-shore/
In just a few weeks, it will be time to pack up the beach towels, tanning oils, and tanning oils and say goodbye to Jersey Shore for good. How will you fill your Thursday nights at 10 p.m.? MTV is hoping to hit pay dirt (mud?) several hundred miles southwest of New Jersey with Buckwild, a new reality series about nine young-adult friends in small-town West Virginia who say they are living by the motto, “Whatever happens, happens.” And what seems to be happening is a lot of riding down hills inside giant tires, driving trucks dangerously through mud, tearing up the trails on ATVs and motorcycles, drinking, body licking, fighting with neighbors, and doing Jackass-y stunts that sometimes involve construction equipment
I’m sick and tired of those who say that MSNBC wins the most important demo. Are any of you ad exec. That would be important to them the rest of you are nothing. Please the total viewers is the real key. So just go jump.
