    @Fishy

    Here’s an example for SNF with significantly lower viewership (25 October 2009). Exact same viewership pattern.

    Football Night in America 1 – 7:00-7:30 – sustained

    Football Night in America 2 – 7:30-7:57 – 2.2 A18-49, 3.4 million viewers

    Football Night in America 3 – 7:57-8:22 – 2.8 A18-49, 8.0 million viewers

    Sunday Night Football Pre-Kick – 8:22-8:31 – 3.7 A18-49, 10.2 million viewers

    Sunday Night Football – 8:31-11:42 – 5.9 A18-49, 15.0 million viewers

    It doesn’t matter. It still doesn’t explain the significant difference in the amount of drop off between the two shows in the numbers I posted. Sorry.

  • Ultima

    @Fishy
    It still doesn’t explain the significant difference in the amount of drop off between the two shows in the numbers I posted.

    Yes, it does.

    Actual games have significantly higher numbers than pregame shows. This is a fact based on virtually every single sports telecast.

    Your argument is that, despite that fact and despite the adjustments supporting it, the numbers must be wrong because you wan’t them to be.

    If you take 30 minutes of gametime and 30 minutes of pregame out of the 8pm hour and nearly an hour gametime out of the 9pm hour, you’re going to have a more significant adjustment on the 8pm hour.

    It doesn’t matter.

    Well, I agree with you there. You’re delusional and no amount of facts and logic will ever matter to you.

  • Dean_W

    ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is the next ‘The Secret Cercle’ :(

  • Fishyalias

    Show me how the numbers are actually extrapolated (not even calculated) based on the actual viewership numbers of this TNF which averaged only 7.1 million viewers, one of the lower values of the season, to cause such a significant drop off between the two shows, and we’ll see who’s delusional.

    WTF happened with Scandal??? So good this ratings…

  • Ultima

    @Fishy

    I don’t know how you’re having such a hard time understanding this.

    The 8pm hour of Thursday Night Football is lower rated than the 9pm hour due to containing 30 minutes of pregame. This will always be true, regardless of the relative viewership of the game compared to other weeks or whether you look at the national numbers or those for the local markets.

    Subsequently, when those viewership numbers are removed from the CW’s national average in the finals, more viewers are being removed from the 9pm hour than the 8pm hour.

  • bray

    lol Beauty And The Beast numbers,series is bad, the acting is bad

  • Ultima

    @Fishy

    Have you ever heard of the term “moving the goalposts”?

    You initially stated

    I see that know one could explain the dubious adjustment drop of two shows on the same network being significantly different

    along with repeated accusations of B.S. and excuses. After the adjustments were repeatedly explained to you (despite continued accusations of B.S. and excuses) you’re now left with

    I said show me the actual statistical extrapolation of numbers

    Clearly, no one outside of Nielsen could possibly do that. Furthermore, that information is completely unncesseary to the explanation which you assumed couldn’t exist.

    It’s sad that you can’t simply eat some crow and move on.

  • Ivy

    Can someone please explain why Elementary is seen as likely to be renewed with such low numbers in key demo?

  • jimbo

    After the office and 30rocks are gone, it’s time for NBC to rethink their comedy line on Thursday. 9:00 P.M does not work out if they put another comedy shows. They should produce another kind of Chicago fire or revolution.
    And they should concentrate on Wednesday for comedies.
    Don’t make comedy day. It’s bad idea especially for NBC.

  • Ultima

    @Fishy
    I said provide the information from this week’s TNF numbers with its measly 7.1 million average viewership

    http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/11/30/thursday-cable-ratings-thursday-night-football-wins-night-jersey-shore-burn-notice-its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia-project-runway-all-stars-more/159727/

    Thursday Night Football – 8:30 PM – 7.066 million viewers, 2.8 A18-49

    Thursday Night Football Pregame – 8:00 PM – 3.501 million viwers, 1.3 A18-49

    There you go. 8pm hour had 30 minutes of pregame that had half the viewership of the game. Thus, less viewers to strip out of the CW’s ratings and a smaller adjustment for TVD than B&B.

  • Ultima

    @Fishy
    Someone came up with the numbers and it happens to be a corporation that is a monopoly, and one that has become sorely inaccurate due to the way technology has advanced in the past several years.

    What technological advances in the past several years have made Nielsen’s ability to track who is watching commercials on TV inaccurate?

    Certainly not DVRs, as Nielsen does track DVR viewing and leaves it up to its clients to decide what they want to do with those numbers.

    Certainly not online viewing, as that has absolutely nothing to do with watching commercials on TV.

  • aciel

    i could see why max’s favorite show is SCANDAL because he is a scandal. and doesnt want anybody to have REVENGE on him by banning him

  • Ultima

    @Ivy
    Can someone please explain why Elementary is seen as likely to be renewed with such low numbers in key demo?

    There’s four other dramas on CBS with significantly lower ratings than Elementary.

    Season-to-date Live+SD avg for new eps
    Elementary – 2.4
    Vegas – 1.9
    The Mentalist – 1.8
    The Good Wife – 1.7
    CSI: NY – 1.4

    CBS will probably only cancel three of those shows.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

    @Ultima, re:Fishy.

    Know when to say when.

  • ateofi

    Ouch for “Elementary” – it’s really good show. If it continues to go down in ratings, we will have another certain cancellation by May (after “Vegas”)

  • sony

    wow,some crazy fans here from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ series is just bad with poor acting.

  • Brenda

    Yes so glad to see that scandal wasnt adjusted down…love that show. One of the few shows that ive ever checked ratings on. The other was revenge during the first season.
