    @Fishy I guess you’re talking about Beauty and the beast? Well if you take time to actually pay attention when you read, you would have your answer! But I guess it’s more easy to insult other people work, even more when your favorite show is doing sooo bad in the ratings! But here’s your answers
    Last night’s Thursday Night Football game (Saints/Falcons) was simulcast on the FOX affiliate in New Orleans and the CW affiliate in Atlanta. The CW was also preempted in Baltimore for high school football. As a result, the FOX and CW numbers may be inflated and subject to more than typical adjustments in the finals.

    I love Scandal and Revenge. I think we are lucky to have both….Max you just love to cause trouble.

    @Fishy

    I see that know one could explain the dubious adjustment drop of two shows on the same network being significantly different. This simply tells me that Nielsen ratings are BS and their manipulation is done by idiots paid by the bigger networks or by biased idiots who make whatever adjustments they feel like.

    Drops are usually due to a show’s lead-in running over, number rounding, or local preemptions. For example, Grey’s Anatomy always runs to 10:02pm, but Nielsen has it listed as only running until 10pm in the preliminary ratings. Since Grey’s Anatomy runs over, its lead-out Scandal is showing that it had Grey’s Anatomy‘s rating during those two minutes. The final ratings sort this all out.

    As for number rounding, let’s say The Big Bang Theory had a 5.4 for the first 30 minutes, and a 5.7 for the next. The immediate average would be 5.55, so Nielsen might first list it as a 5.5 on the ratings. However, in the final ratings, Nielsen would round the number up to a 5.6.

    As for local preemptions, last night Beauty and the Beast was scheduled in its slot, but some towns aired a sports game instead. In the preliminary numbers, Nielsen had all the people who were watching the game listed as watching Beauty and the Beast. In the final numbers, this was sorted out, and Beauty and the Beast was adjusted down.

    I mentioned in other thread that I was disappointed in BBT last nite, weak episode. Hope its not a trend. I’ve already given up on 2 1/2 men. Do like Elementary however!

  • Melissa

    Edit: As for number rounding, let’s say The Big Bang Theory had a 5.4 for the first 15 minutes, and a 5.7 for the next.

    Thursday night football starts at 8 PM. Still doesn’t explain the drop off between the TVD and BatB. It’s a BS excuse. Similarly preempting the CW for both TVD and BatB would have the same impact unless it pushed viewers to not be able to watch BatB because it starts an hour than TVD so people stayed up later to watch TVD but decided not to stay up later to watch BatB which makes the ratings even more skewed. Sorry. Doesn’t fly.

    You keep complaining about Max but you are just as bad as he, if not worse. Max is at least funny, you are just full of venom.

  • Michmom2

    Love Scandal and Revenge! ABC is always so quick to cancel shows, but this season they are holding steady. Well except for 666 and Last resort and I liked those shows too, oh well. Walking Dead Sunday!!!

  • Jazmin

    I guess that what @Fishy was saying is that seems kind of weird that while B&TB registered practically double of its regular numbers because of the game, TVD registered practically its regular numbers, if this was reasonable then TVD’s first numbers should’ve been at least 4 million to then drop to this 2.8 this show has as final number.

    @Fishy

    you don’t get it do you even on regular nights when there was no game on and people didn’t have to stay up later to watch TVD they still dont watch BatB afterwards. the last episode of BATB got the same 0.6 it got this week. this drop off of viewers isn’t something new just check the previous ratings people who watch TVD dont stick around for BATB simple as that

  • j

    Yeah I saw lots of promo for Scandal and the whole “Will the president die” storyline.

    X Factor is weirdly high.

  • js

    50 million people watching tv on a Thursday night. What a loser country.

  • Austin Lauran

    Bill Gorman,

    Can you create an article about how NBC fell from 1st place to 4th place during the 2004-2005 TV season and how the network is trying to recover? I think it would make an interesting article and I’d like to read the reactions of other posters. I was asking because I can’t seem to find an article about it anywhere online.

  • Rich

    Not many more seasons left for GREY’s!

  • TradeMarc

    @js

    And you think that observation elevates you to non-loser status? The fact you know that 50 million is a number is outstanding. Trolls by definition are ugly monsters who/should be relegated to bridge watching, or losers. I don’t normally address lower forms of life, but go scare pedestrians into giving you a shilling. As Smash Mouth says, “looking kind of dumb with a finger and a thumb in the shape of an L on your forehead.”

    Elementary is the same as The Mentalist, but The Mentalist > Elementary.

    I love the smell of Nielsen conspiracy in the morning, it smells like pageviews!

    Being a troll is sad enough, being a troll who has no idea what he’s talking about is just pathetic.

    The horror… the horror…

  • Ram510

    Once Upon a Time 3.1 Greys Anatomy 3.1

    Revenge 2.2 Scandal 2.2

    So all day people were saying Scandal has the biggest lead in with GA which looks like that is no longer true. So what’s the excuse for Revenge? It has OUAT as a lead in pulling the same numbers as GA and it fell to a 2.2 and Revenge is supposed to be one of ABC’s “buzziest” shows and to top it off its on a 9, a time slot that typically garners more viewers than a 10 o’clock show. People should just stop the unnecessary hate for Scandal, it’s a good show

    No, it does not. Thursday Night Football starts at 8:20p ET and kickoff is around ~8:30p ET.

    There’s more viewership of the football game during the 9pm hour (almost all of which is the actual game) than during the 8pm hour (half of which is pregame). This obviously leads to a more significant adjustment during the 9pm hour.

    This isn’t rocket surgery.
