THE CW’S NEW MIDSEASON DRAMA “CULT” PREMIERES ON

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19 (9:00-10:00 PM)

December 4, 2012 (Burbank, CA) – The CW today announced the series premiere of the mind-bending, suspenseful new drama CULT on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 (9:00-10:00p.m. ET).

Investigative journalist Jeff Sefton has learned to laugh off his younger brother Nate’s relentless string of obsessions, especially his latest rant that a hit TV show intends to harm him.  However, when his brother mysteriously disappears, Jeff takes Nate’s paranoia seriously, and in the process uncovers the dark underworld of the TV series “Cult” and its rabid fans, who are obsessed with the show’s charismatic cult leader, Billy Grimm.  As the show’s gruesome plot twists begin to play out in the real world, Jeff enlists the help of a young research assistant Skye in a race to save Nate and unravel the mystery behind the TV series whose hardcore fans would literally kill to see what happens next…

The series stars Matt Davis (“The Vampire Diaries”) as Jeff Sefton, Jessica Lucas (“Melrose Place,” “Cloverfield”) as Skye Yarrow, Alona Tal (“Supernatural,” “The Killing”) as Kelly Collins and Robert Knepper (“Prison Break,” “Shameless”) as Billy Grimm.

CULT is from Fake Empire and Rockne S. O’Bannon Television in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, with executive producers Rockne S. O’Bannon (“Farscape,” “V”), Josh Schwartz (“Chuck,” “Gossip Girl”), Stephanie Savage (“Hart Of Dixie,” “Gossip Girl”) and Len Goldstein (“Hart Of Dixie”).

Even if it doesn’t air Thursdays, its a no brainer to have the premiere after tvd

  • Brianna

Everyone is already dooming Cult because of it’s slot… But it’s late enough that they can show the gruesome things that have to for the show and late enough that average class/work hours don’t interfere without having to compete with an already hit show.
If they put it on the same night as something like TVD then it could have just been another TSC flop. I hated having two shows I want to watch on back to back because that doesn’t give me any time to discuss or recover from the episode, haha.

Am I the only one here who remember the (probably much better but equally short lived) Freakylinks?

    CANCELLED

Everyone is already dooming Cult because of it’s slot

Wrong, I’m dooming because of its asinine premise which has been tried, and failed, before

Unless there’s some stupid romantic hook that will turn off everyone but people who think TVD (and twilight) are quality

In all honesty I dont think the time slt or having HOD as a lead in is going to be the worst things Cult have going for it, I have seen the pilot and it is awful. I can see it getting a decent-ish start but I really dont think it will be anything close to a hit and it wont be back for more than its 13 produced episodes.

    I’m outta here

CULT sounds like a really cool series but I doubt its pairing with HOD(which I’m personally a fan of) will do it any favors in the ratings. Those two shows couldn’t be more different. Since the CW didn’t move BATB hopefully that’s a sign that the network is showing faith in that series.

  • Jamie

I don’t think this is very smart.

But it’s possible they could switch Dixie and Beast, I guess…

  • Unreal Nick

It looks like the kind of shows that doesn’t get along with The CW’s audience. Like a new Nikita which won’t be as lucky as that show has been and it will probably be canceled by the end of its season.

  • Wright

I will definitely be watching. Hopefully it will defy the odds and perform well and then it can be paired with TVD.

  • DougF

Well I guess all the people pushing for Supernatural to be moved for Cult are pretty mad right now.

  • Adam

If they reall do have to have it on tuesdays at least let it premier after Arrow or TVD and then move it to tuesdays. That could bring more viewers instead of just the house of dixie crowd. Emily Owens MD was more of a fit with HoD than cult.

Or move 90210 to tuesdays and pusha two new series n the same night, even though it might be risky.

  • omabin

This is crazy… What are networks on? First ABC, and now the CW. Given, this is not as mad as ABC’s schedule because it could simply be that the show truly is as awful as critics say so they prefer to try to give beauty their best shot rather than aim for cult to succeed. Still, as much as I like Hart of Dixie, this pairing is wroooong, on so many levels.

  • CoolRanchDoritos

Brianna~ Um, Supernatural is on the same time slot and it’s run for 8 years. So….

Cult is on in a horrible time slot meaning Tuesdays at 9. Seeing as how everything that has been on Tuesdays at 9 got canceled.

Although other shows were on at that time but were later changed like SPN (half of S1), OTH (S1, S2, & half of S5) & 90210 (half of S1).

I wanna watch the show for Jessica but i hate We All Bleed Red & don’t wanna see him leading anything.

  • Nick

I am looking forward to this, but it will probaly be a “Mob Doctor” type situation for me: I DVR it, and the next day, when it flops, I delete it.

  • getmilk

LOL! Premiere a show on the worst time slot possible!

It’s probably even worse than Fridays. Maybe they should move Cult to 9:00pm on Fridays? It seems compatible with Nikita. Moreso than HOD anyway. I think Cult would perform well with Supernatural.

  • RS

I know it’s selfish, but this is good news for me. My heart belongs to CBS on Thursday (especially P of I), and the CW has never tempted me on that night. I’ve never watched VD and have no interest in Beauty and the Male Model. Tuesday is the only weeknight I don’t have a “must watch” show (Mon-Revolution (I know, not for many months), Wed-SPN, Thurs-PofI, Fri-Grimm, Sun-Once). I catch H of Dixie and the New Normal when I think of it. I can give Cult a try. Last year I gave Ringer a try in this slot, but I lost interest after about 4 episodes. The time slot was not the issue for me.

  • Chris

I might actually watch this one–Rockne O’Bannon has been pitching it for a long time now. I used to like his show Farscape, back before he handed it over to a hack named Kemper, who ruined it.

  • Dan S

I wasn’t planning on watching Cult expecting it to go to Thur. Since Tues is wide open & I love Robert Knepper T-Bag from Prison Break I’ll check it out. Who knows it could be the successor to Supernatural but paired with HOD is a bit odd.
