One Tree Hill. Gossip Girl. Both were veteran CW dramas that were given a short final season on their way out the door. With 90210 ratings this season as dreadful as they've ever been, a short 13 episode final season next Fall is its only hope, but just because the CW has done it before, doesnt mean they have to do it again.

What's your guess? Will 90210 get a 13 episode farewell season, or is 2012-13 its final hurrah?

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Well, I don’t know what to say.
I see many people want to cancel 90210.

I noticed that Monday’s ratings for it were really badly, not only for this show.
CW has to introduce something different, something we’ll like… by cancelling it.. maybe?
The other way I know that also fans are and they don’t want that

  • Ardnaskela

    ..
    And sorry for my English.

  • Ralphie

Wouldn’t it be funny if 90210 was renewed for a full season for more episodes to sell. I think everyone will have a meltdown if that happened.

  • Mi

If 90210 gets a syndication deal, I can see a short final season for 90210. The ratings difference between HoD, B&tB, and 90210 is too small so it’s best to give the shows that could reach syndication more seasons, and thus from the 3 of them I see B&tB getting cancelled.

Personally, I think the CW should cancel HoD too but there’s a limit to the number of new shows they could introduce next season, so I think HoD will be the next Nikita and get renewed.

One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl meant a lot more to the network than 90210. Gossip Girl was the CW’s first hit original series and a cultural phenomenon. They gave it a short final season out of appreciation for what it once was. OTH was generally a solid performer and generated a solid following over the years. One could also make the argument that it meant something to this current generation of teens/young adults. So it was given a short final season.

I don’t think the CW owes anything to 90210 or its fans. They gave them five seasons even though the ratings started to tank a few years back. It was really only a hit in its first and maybe second season. After that it always appeared to rate low.

That being said I could see the CW renewing it for a short final season just to help fill some gaps on their schedule. My early early prediction for the CW 2013-2014 schedule looks something like this…

    Mon:
    The Carrie Diaries
90210 Final Season 10 Episodes/America’s Next Top Model

    Tue:
    New Drama – (The Selection)
    New Drama – (Amazon)

    Wed:
    Arrow
    New Drama – (?)

    Thur:
    The Vampire Diaries
    Hart of Dixie

    Fri:
    Supernatural
    Cult

    Nikita for mid-season/Summer (22 episodes).

doesn’t 90210 already have enough eps for syndication? i watched it the first two year (two years too many, GOD) and that was awhile ago…

  • David Howell

    Short final season.

What else on their schedule is going to do much better? At least more 90210 means more DVD/Netflix revenue, which is about all the network can get now.

  • TVDude

If I were CW, I would announce this season as the final season. There is still plenty of time for the writers to come up with a good ending. Plenty of shows have ended with less time for planning, and the first coming to mind is Ugly Betty. Although that was on another network, but it’s still doable.

  • Reward

If CW wanna rise, it must cancell 90210!

  • CrimTV

It probably won’t get a 13 episode final season probably 10 like Gossip Girl

  • CrimTV

    @Anthony

What about the Battle Royale pilot that looks AMAZING!

  • Alan

Final season no matter how well TCD and Cult do, it gets decent DVR ratings every week.

  • Dillan

It will get a short final season. I love 90210, but I think it should be cancelled. If The CW want to end it, they will announce by January, the latest, that this season is the last. If no announcement is made by then, it will get a short final season.

  • Pepper

90210 is pretty much certain to be cancelled at the end of this season unless the Carrie Diaries or Cult flop. It’s reached syndication numbers and was never a flagship show for the CW in the way that GG or OTH was. It’ll be getting the ax.

  • Dillan

    @Pepper:

90210 isn’t as big as OTH and GG, but I would definitely call it one of The CW’s flagship show.

  • CoolRanchDoritos

GG signed 6 season contracts from the beginning so shove it.

I want 90210 to get a full final season.
