One Tree Hill. Gossip Girl. Both were veteran CW dramas that were given a short final season on their way out the door. With 90210 ratings this season as dreadful as they've ever been, a short 13 episode final season next Fall is its only hope, but just because the CW has done it before, doesnt mean they have to do it again.

What's your guess? Will 90210 get a 13 episode farewell season, or is 2012-13 its final hurrah?

How can Nikita with absolutely "look away" bad ratings be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Cancellation (ie) CAN IT!

  • Derek

@CrimTV – Battle Royale sorta sounds like Hunger Games meets Red Dawn. What do you think?

  • halloween

Cult on Tuesdays, Big Mistake CW

  • Nick

I think that it will get a final season as I can already tell that The Carrie Diaries will not do that well and if it does it will boosts 9-0’s ratings which will also help it get a final season. So it’s kind of win-win for 90210 in that case. On the other hand, most people are saying BATB will get cancelled and I think Cult will be another Ringer – without the premiere ratings because there’s no SMG – and get cancelled as well. So, in theory if all three of the freshman shows get cancelled, we will no doubt have another season of 90210. If two of the freshman shows get cancelled, we will more than likely have the final season, as well.

Someone else also mentioned how the CW generates a lot of cash from 90210’s Netflix deal, which I imagine it does, a few of my friends started watching the show because of Netflix.

If the CW was going to make this the final season, they would have announced it by now, next week is the mid-season finale and as a huge fan of the show I know the writers are still coming up with fresh ideas. 9-0 is stabilizing at a .5 in the demo right now, sometimes it reaches .6/.7, and like I said, TCD could potentially give it that boosts it needs to SECURE the final season.

As a fan of the show, I’d love to see it get a final season.
As a fan that’s been watching the ratings since day one, I’m pretty sure it will get the final season.

  • Starship

I’m pretty sure 90210 will get a final season, whether that would be a full 22 episode final season or a 10 Fall/ 13 Spring Final season will depend on many factors (most importantly it’s Spring ratings/new midseason shows’ratings and the dramas in development for 2013-2014). Unless Hart of Dixie tanks completely in the Spring, which I doubt since it’s been getting consistent ratings ever since it premiered last year, it will be renewed. If Cult flops it will be cancelled, in which case BatB might be renewed, depending on it’s Spring ratings. Unless Carrie Diaries bombs, which I highly doubt, it will be renewed for 13 episodes in 2013 and they will then decide whether to extend the order. Nikita is the only unknown in the equation, but I can see it being renewed for a final 22-episodes season, starting in the Spring of 2014 and finishing off during the Summer.

    The CW Scripted Average: 0.7

I’ve compiled all off the scripted ratings data for The CW this season. All of the seasonal averages listed below (and the scripted average) are up-to-date as of Sunday, December 2, 2012.

    Shows Above Average:

    The Vampire Diaries – 1.4
    Arrow – 1.2
    Supernatural – 0.9

    Shows Equal to Average:

Beauty and the Beast – 0.7

    Shows Below Average:

    Hart of Dixie – 0.6
    90210 – 0.5
    Gossip Girl – 0.4
    Emily Owens, M.D. – 0.4
    Nikita – 0.3

  • Jared

90210 is doing NOTHING as far as ratings go..but as a long time fan I wouldn’t mind a final 10-13 farewell season.

  • Derek

With this announcement on Cult, The CW is going to have to cancel a whole lot of “quality” *cough cough* programming in May.

    The Carrie Diaries
    Cult
    90210
    Emily Owens
    Gossip Girl

  • James

    MY GUESS FOR NEXT SEASON:

    Monday
    The Carrie Diaries
    Meridian Hills

    Tuesday
    Amazon
    Supernatural

    Wednesday
    Arrow
    The Tomorrow People

    Thursday
    The Vampire Diaries
    Embrace

    Friday
    Hart of Dixie
    90210 (final)/ NIKITA (midseason)

    MIDSEASON:
    The Hundred
    Electropolis

  • Starship

    @James
There’s no chance the CW will launch 6 new series next year, 5 was already a stretch for them this year. Nor is there any chance that Hart of Dixie or 90210 will move to Friday if they get renewed, the CW likes to keep their light-hearted shows on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday(and even that has been delegated to action shows now).

  • Gus

I would say this should be 90210’s final season. Whatever buzz the show had is long gone and it would simply be redundant to bring it back since the story for this version of 90210 has pretty much been told. Nothing more left to say really. But then again with much of the CW’s lineup presently is cancellation material anyway therefore 90210 could get a short final season after all. So many here want (or predict) another season for the CW’s worst ratings performer , Nikita. 90210 could come back under similar circumstances as, and for better reasons to than Nikita.

  • JJA

90210 will be renewed. Go ahead and put that extra smiley face next to its name. The only issue is if it gets a partial season or a full season.

HOD is the only true “toss up” right now.

    B&TB will be canceled.

  • Nick

What the CW SHOULD do in 2013-2014:

    Mon-
    8: Hart of Dixie
9: The Carrie Diaries/ Meridian Hills (new)

    Tue-
    8: The Hundred (new)
    9: Supernatural

    Wed-
    8: Arrow
    9: Amazon (new)

    Thu-
    8: The Vampire Diaries
    9: The Selection (new)

    Fri-
    8: Nikita (full final season)
    9: 90210 (10 episode final season)/ America’s Next Top Model

I voted 13 episode final season, but it’s going to be more like 10.

  • thereasonsy

Let’s be perfectly honest – they made it to 100 episodes. There is no way in hell AnnaLynne McCord will renew with the show and her contract is probably up. So in the words of Michelle Branch – Goodbye to you.

  • JulieDawn

@Roswell – I didn’t say BATB should get a final season, I said it should get a SECOND season! lol

  • thereasonsy

@Nick sorry but the smarter play is to cancel 90210 now and leave B&TB on as a slow burner show that could pick up fans over the summer. I would rather risk a new show growing (i.e. Supernatural back in the day) then an old show dying (i.e. OTH & GG) The ratings didn’t generate enough money to even pay for Kraft services.

  • ann

I think Carrie Diaries will be a major flop, but it still doesn’t justify keeping 90210 around. It got its 100 episodes, it needs to go.

  • Honey Badger

CW will renew Hart Of Dixie.
Hart Of Dixie is not afraid of the Cancellation Bear.
The mayor of Bluebell has a pet alligator named Burt Reynolds, this would not be good for Cancellation Bear.
It would be in the best interest of Cancellation Bear to go after easier targets. :)

  • Dayv

I can’t believe all the negative feedback and poor ratings about 90210. It’s the best show on CW and the only good show on CW. The rest of their shows are garbage.
