Go On, The New Normal and Parenthood fans should join and defend this line-up instead of discussing what does better and what does not, because the truth is that this is the best line-up NBC could have ever dreamt of. They’re winning, they’re steady, and the competence is flopping. That’s all that matters to the advertisers. And as someone said, renew/cancel decisions are taken not between all networks numbers but within the same network numbers. This means these three shows have its renovation 99% sure right now and that’s something for fans to celebrate.
@Melissa, that is just the same repeat last year with the Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie last year, I don’t think The Secret Circle EVER dipped below the 0.6 (which will be the case with Beauty and the beast) while Hart of Dixie had was regularly getting 0.6 and 0.5 with the random 0.7 and the rare 0.4. BUT it got renewed.
You can’t compare Hart of Dixie who is buildng an audience on it’s own, and Beauty and the Beast who is losing most of the viewers coming out of the number one show on the network.
CW should have moved Beauty and the Beast after Hart of Dixie, just to see if Beauty and the Beast would hold it’s audience it has from Thursday or it was just people who watched The Vampire Diaries and was just to lazy to change the station.
So i still think Hart of Dixie is safer than Beauty and the Beast. Even if Beauty and the beast never dips below 0.5. The only time i’d think B&tB is fully safe it if regularly gets a 0.8 or 0.9. to me a 0.7 or 0.6 is not convincing enough.
@Melissa
they both deserve cancellation
@Melissa
People used that same argument last year to say The Secret Circle would get renewed over Hart of Dixie. And we all know how that turned out.
It’s non-sense to speak of Parenthood as outdoing The New Normal just because a 0.1 difference. Parenthood has its loyal viewers, and TNN has theirs, that’s all. Parenthood doesn’t depends on what TNN does just like TNN doesn’t depends on Go On. If you ask me, the three shows have three different targets: TNN (18-35), Go On (35-45), Parenthood (35-55). It’s just a guess based on their cast and their stories. Feel free to disagree. To me, it seems unlikely to me that the same viewers watch all three shows. NBC should be glad that they’re outdoing the other comedies on Tuesday and even the other NBC comedies on other days.
The difference between Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast is that Hart of Dixie is already closer to syndication, and is a self starter. I would love to see what Beauty would get without a lead in. Hart has never had a good lead in to help it grow, last year it has Gossip Girl which it always grew out of and now it leads the night. Beauty and the Beast is being propped up while Hart of Dixie can clearly stand on it’s own. Honestly i can see both being renewed and canceling 90210. That would give the CW a slot to fill on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Assuming Cult fails and Carrie Diaries doesn’t.
I think this ratings are a little scary!
NBC should airs Parenthood only during fall, with 13 episodes per season, without pauses and repeats.

Melissa, Beauty no longer has a 0.7 average as its gotten three or four 0.6s.The reason people say Hart is safe is because Beauty lost more than half it’s audience of its audience from the pilot by episode three and Likley come Jan and spring, loose more viewers while Hart has been again stable at 0.5-0.6.Beauty is already getting lower ratings than Nikita and Secret Circle in that timeslots and just like Nikita & SC has low retention out of VD.Plus,Hart will closer to syndication.
Shark Tank should be getting 4.0-5.0. That’s how good it is. People are just too dumb to follow.
@Oliver, “I remember when Bill Gorman predicted it to be the first show to be pulled from the air!”
Never happened.
Parenthood spent plenty of time as a “toss up”, but never was predicted worse than that AFAIK.
For reference, here’s the first R/C index post that included Parenthood:
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2010/03/16/parenthood-not-saving-nbc-but-probably-saving-itself/45065/
Edit: You may notice the different format of that R/C post, that was before I switched to the more production (and colorblind) friendly smilies!
I meant to say Beauty has low retention out of VD while Hart matched and grew out of its leadin last season while Beauty fails to do that.
@Bill Gorman
Oh, really?:
Considering what ABC has been putting up with the past few years on Tuesdays, Shark Tank didn’t do all that awful. I think with time, the show would grow to over a 2.0 demo. Stick DWTS Results at 9 with a drama at 10. At least ABC would average around a 2.0 for the night instead of a 1.4.
“I don’t think The Secret Circle EVER dipped below the 0.6″
It did, multiple times.
Nice for the NBC comedies, but series low for Raising Hope
And I agree with Honey Bear. If The Cancellation Bear eats HOD, that’ll make 5 doctor shows this year: TMD, Emily Owens, Private Practice, and Animal Practice are the other 4. By May, the Bear will be vomiting up stethescopes!
I think Cult will do way better than Carrie Diaries. I don’t even know why the CW ordered Carrie Diaries.
^Oops, I mean Honey Badger lol.
It’s embarrasing when you say someone’s name wrong. :/
“On NBC, I like Parenthood for the early crater and yank.”
Ah yes, the old springtime wild guesses with no data.
You can see why I don’t do those any longer!
We’re no better at those than the network’s or the hack TV critics!
Parenthood is really proving itself this season. It’s getting basically the same ratings as last season with a weaker lead-in. I can’t believe NBC hasn’t tried this show in an 8pm timeslot. Just hoping it gets renewed. It’s fanbase may not be huge, but it’s certainly dedicated, and it gets pretty good growth in DVR viewing.
