    General hospital sucks

  • Jeff

More good news. GH has let go of boring and useless Dr. Steve. Hopefully, they send Johnny and Olivia away with him. Continuing steps in the right direction. GO GH!

  • jonboyelk

@Jeff Please get rid of Johnny Z. He cold bloodedly killed his grandfather and was indirectly responsible for the death of Starrs daughter and bf. There is no redemption for him.

  • Jeff

Agreed. He needs to go, go, go! I am really hoping Frank and Ron clean it up a bit. Johnny, Spinelli, the 4 new characters, Steve, Olivia, and Kristina all can be on their way. They serve no purpose any more and add very little to the show. Also, Kate/Connie needs to be on her way too. It’s one thing when you have a major character like Viki on OLTL have DID, but Kate serves no purpose, so her only value is when she is being Connie, but that can’t go on forever.

Geez, I’m trying to get through an episode of GH today what with so many raving how “wonderful” GH has been especially as of late. Sorry, folks, but I don’t get it. Firstly, I’m watching Olivia as she’s talking to an imaginary puppy and then the blonde gal at the table with Olivia and another guy is worried that she is going to give birth to a dog!

Then the whole “Duke Lavery mask” thing with Anna and Robert is laughable. You mean to tell me that no one would see where the mask ends around the neck?!? Silly!

And now all the talk about “The Nurses Ball.” Please, enough already…that thing die already! I remember back in the day how they dragged that old nurses ball thing out each year featuring mediocre talent, self-indulgent “humour” and schmalty numbers. Some traditions deserve to die and the Nurses Ball is definitely one of those old dubious traditions.

Y-A-W-N…..don’t know if I can get through this whole episode…please let it end already.

  • Kayla Rae

Oops, in the above post I meant to write, “…let that thing die already!”

  • Kayla Rae

I’m confident that NBC will be renewing DOOL yet again. Wait and see! It has been so very good especially since the last reboot! Go Days!

  • Reality

GH has been awesome lately. I am a loyal viewer once again. Cant wait for Lucy to return! Love Anna and Robert. Glad to see Steven is going. Kristina, Spinelli, Connie, and that evil witch doctor need to go also. Bring back more veterans.

DAYS on the other hand stinks. SOOOO boring and slow. I fall asleep watching it. If its ratings dont pick up soon it will be gone next year for sure!! Days just sucks right now and has been for months.

  • Chrisann D

Jeff, Hey! I agree that alot of the cast members could go and the show would be better. I do like Spinelli and Olivia. I love that they are kinda campy. I thought todays episode was expecially fun. Good to see you are still a fan!!

I can’t say how Days has been lately I have alot of episodes to catch up on. But I always make time to watch GH in real time when possible. I think it would be a real shame if ANY of the soaps left got canceled.

  • Kayla Rae

I agree that Spinelli and Olivia definitely need to go from GH. I’ve always thought the whole Spinelli thing was just plain weird and NOT entertaining in the least.

As for Olivia, what is up with her caked-on make-up??? Her thickly overdone face borders that of the visage of a clown!

I’ve tried but just cannot get back into GH…it bores me to tears. It’s but a dismal faint shadow of its long-ago self. DOOL is so very much better! Go DAYS!!!

  • Kayla Rae

May GH’s schmaltzy nurses ball go down with the ship!

  • Sophie

Kayla Rae, you sound jealous is all. GH is doing much better than Days in the ratings, and have been since Aug. The writing is so good. Days new writers need to take a hike and hire some fans to write. It’s aweful. Kristen and Brady, wow … BORING!

  • Pinkle

    @Kayla Rae

While a Days renewal does have a possibility (IMO a very slim one), the firing of Days’ crew THIS close to Days’ contract with NBC being up cannot be a good sign.

From the looks of it, it seems like Corday Productions outsourced the crew jobs to NBC, so that Corday doesn’t have to pay for them. That means that NBC had to hire and pay the crew. Basically, NBC doesn’t want to pay the crew salaries anymore, so Corday Productions will now have to hire a new crew out of their own pockets, which will probably result in another budget cut for Days. Given that Days already has the lowest budget out of all the soaps, they will either have to hire cheap replacements (given the show’s poor production values, that is NOT a good thing) or they can switch to an all-location shooting, handycam style a la Guiding Light 2008-2009.

However, I think that this is really NBC saying that they don’t want Days anymore. While this move did affect other NBC shows, it sounds like Days is being hit the hardest. Days will probably end because NBC doesn’t want it, and Corday can’t afford to keep the show on.

The best case scenario is that Days can hire crew members to last out its contract without blowing the budget. The worst case scenario is that Days is forced to end production without producing a real finale for its fans.

In addition, NBC sold the studio that Days was in to another owner, and Days is not moving to another NBC-owned studio.

I think that it will take a miracle to save Days at this point.

  • jonboyelk

@kayla Duke Lavery mask silly and Marlenas demonic possession not??????!!!!!

  • Kayla Rae

@jonboyelk, to attempt to compare demonic possession to everyone being fooled by a Halloween mask is absurd! Demonic possession stories have been an extremely huge, popular cultural phenomenon for eons. Personally, I relished the Marlena demonic possession story and it remains among the most popular soap storylines of all time. It may not be your cup of tea though. Perhaps you best stick with the fake-o Duke Halloween mask plot. It seems to be more up your alley.

As for DOOL’s fate, I remain quite optimistic. DOOL will continue, and rightly so…you’ll see.

  • Kayla Rae

@Sophie, it remains a fact that higher ratings definitely do NOT necessarily equate to higher quality programming. Just look at the waste that soars in the ratings stratosphere: the likes of Honey Boo-Boo and Jersey Shore, etc.. It’s a sad commentary on the dismal tastes of the average American tv viewer.

GH cannot touch DOOL in quality, regardless of the purported higher ratings it is garnering over DOOL.

  • Amy

I’m surprised to see people here saying they don’t like spinelli. maxie/spinelli and johnny/lulu are the most popular couples with younger viewers

  • Kayla Rae

Ugh! I can’t abide that Lulu either. Thanks for reminding me, @Amy.

  • JayTN

I haven’t seen this posted here, so I thought I would pass it along in case anyone is interested and did not see the news…

Longtime daytime soap producer Paul Rauch died on Monday, Dec. 10 at the age of 78 from blood clot complications. Rauch most recently was producer of “The Young & the Restless” (2008-11) and had previously been a producer on “Guiding Light” (1996-2002), “Santa Barbara” (1991-93), “One Life to Live” (1983-91), “Another World” (1972-82) and “Texas” (1980-81), which he also co-created. Rauch got his start as a vice-president of CBS Daytime in the early 1970s before being hired to produce NBC’s “Another World”.

Rauch is perhaps best known for the final shot on the final episode of NBC’s “Santa Barbara” in 1993. Rauch – who served as executive producer for the canceled soap – appeared in front of the camera, crushed a cigar under his shoe and walked off camera. Some prominent soap critics – including Michael Logan – criticized the stunt as crass and unnecessary.

Rauch, who lived in New York City, is survived by his wife, pianist Israela Margalit, two children, two step-children, and 3 granddaughters.

  • Kayla Rae

Why did he crush the cigar under his shoe and walk off? What was the significance of that?
