Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    But the low 2.s are great numbers for Scandal. It averaged 1.9 to 2.0 before last week. Any gain for a show that has been unable to build its audience has got to be a positive and increase its likelihood of renewal.

    I don’t understand, they’re all 5-6 letters. Stefan, Damon, Elena, Tyler, Klaus. Not that hard to remember. I’m like who the heck is Taylor.

    I get if you don’t watch the show or if the name was like 15 letters but come on now its been 3 yrs.

    I still don’t get why REVENGE and SCANDAL fans have to make fun of each other and belittle the other person’s show. I am one of those that watches both!!! I like them BOTH!!!! We should be supporting each others shows and not bashing them. Especially since both are very good.

    I am happy for SCANDAL. A 2.5 in the ratings I believe is a series high and this eppisode was crazy good last night!! For those that bash it and haven’t seen it…..please stop. You don’t know what u are talking about. It truly is a well written and acted show. Sure some of the plot twists are out there but hey thats why the call it TELEVISION!!! Just watch this clip from last night……. you will see what I mean: : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0p9wLmQ1Iw. Its pretty rare to find that kind of chemistry on television. And boy do those two have it!

    As far as Revenge goes I will admit so far it is not as good as last season but please give it time. For those of you who have given up on it already. Thats sad…. every show goes thru growing pains. You should ride it out and if by seasons end it doesn’t interest u the same then fine give up on it.

    @Old Man
    Thanks. The family gets here on the 22nd (just my parents and sister)…I probably won’t be online much between then and the 27th when they leave. Dad and Sis tend to hog the computer, lol. We’re all going to see the Les Miz movie on the 26th. I still need to see Lincoln, hopefully this weekend if snow and timing don’t interfere. Cinemark is just up the street; I’m there a LOT.

  • Wright

    Once viewers understand that the sire bond doesn’t affect Damon and Elena then the ratings will go back up.

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ Bill

    You educate me again! Knew NY was #2, but thought behind Houston (got the state right). Is NE top of the charts or no? I’m thinking top five, so hit me.

  • Ann

    Both Scandal and Elementary may drop because of inflation from the football game, but I think Scandal will beat Elementary. The way Scandal has been notching upward all season is growing on me. I don’t watch it, but I’m kind of rooting for it.

    As for Elementary’s Superbowl slot, I read CBS was considering 2 Broke Girls and TBBT originally, but decided to give Elementary a shot because it’s not doing as well as they predicted. With NBC giving up on that timeslot and Scandal looking iffy at the start of the year, I wouldn’t be surprised if CBS thought Elementary would consistently pull in the low 3’s.

    “Is NE top of the charts or no? I’m thinking top five, so hit me.”

    Difficult to say beyond Dallas and NY Giants.

  • jr

    @Bill Gorman

    You are also underestimating the Patriots affect. They draw big audiences as well. Probably close to the Giants and Cowboys.

  • Steph

    TVD was a horrible epi. It deserved that drop. Great job Scandal! I don’t watch very often, but it’s a good show. Now if this Max person would just shut about comparing it to Revenge. Both shows are good and should succeed.

  • Cher

    I’ve only been watching Scandal for about the last three shows I am hooked!!!!I really wish Fox would put Glee back on Tuesdays!!! There are just too many shows on Thursdays plus you have NFL and NBA on TV!!!

  • robin

    Okay im going to say it TVD is down because no one cares about the love triangle.

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ Rebecca

    I’m seeing Lincoln on Sunday and Les Miserables is my Christmas movie too! Funny how we think so much alike! Hopefully we’ll chat more before the 22nd (I’m sure we will). The weather is really frightful in the Burgh too, just non-stop, cold rain with a deep fog.

    Let me know if you want some GA Toast Christmas ornaments & I’ll send you some packed in a Rudolph popcorn tin. Will put att: Kiddo on the label so she’ll be so surprised! Just don’t let her know it’s from me, we’ll pull the secret Santa on her!

  • HB

    TVD down because of the sire bond crap? Hmmmmm!

  • Alex

    Yah!scandal,way 2 go.See,if you promote it people will come.Shonda Rhimes killed it last night,great writing,great show and great actors. Kudos to Kerry Washington you are incredible and for the haters.They are gonna continue 2 hate while Scandal,Shonda and Kerry Washington are going to shine.lol what u mad 4.

  • Scandalfan

    Way to go Scandal the best episode thus far the show was so greaaaaaaaaaaaat last night I couldn’t get enough.

    The newbies on Grey’s are killing the show wake up Shonda we don’t wanna see all these new faces and a couple of them can’t act.

  • aciel

    @queenb231985
    the only person thats stirring up the scandal vs revenge feud is MAX because hes probably put in a mental instuation writing these comments and us revenge fans are just giving max of his own medicine so its mainly max alone. i know longer which one of these does just as long as they both get renewed. this is getting ridicoulous. but i do agree with you revenge hasn’t been as good this season because emily lost focus and it seems like they just put together a bunch of random storylines with really no plot. during the hiatus the writers better get revenge back on track again over the hiatus or it will continue to loose viewers. please please please writers get rid of aidan hes holding emily back

  • gustavo

    Last night episodes of the big bang theory and two and a half men were hilarous.

  • Rebecca

    @Old Man
    I would have seen Lincoln sooner but Hubby wants to see it and he can’t do my usual weekday matinees (someone around here has to work, lol).

    Sorry, but tell me: do you mean Grey’s Anatomy Toast ornaments? I’m in the middle of watching 30R and don’t want to scroll back, lol. Or else what is GA?

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ Bill

    Thanks. Will send some GA Toast Christmas Ornaments your way!
