TV Ratings Thursday: 'The Office', 'Person of Interest' & 'Scandal' Up; 'The Vampire Diaries' & 'The X Factor' Down + 'Grey's Anatomy' Ties Season Low

Last night’s Thursday Night Football game (Broncos/Raiders) was simulcast on the CBS affiliate in Denver and the ABC affiliate in Oakland. As a result, the CBS and ABC numbers may be inflated  and subject to more than typical adjustments in the finals.

CBS won the night in adults 18-49 and in Total Viewers.

On CBS, The Big Bang Theory earned a 5.3, down a tenth from last week's 5.5 adults 18-49 rating Two and a Half Men garnered a 4.2, up two tenths from last week's 4.0 among adults 18-49. Person Of Interest scored a 3.2, up three tenths from last week's 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. Elementary notched a 2.3, up a tenth from last week's 2.2 adults 18-49 rating.

On FOX,  The X Factor earned a 2.4, down three tenths from last week's 2.7 adults 18-49 rating.  Glee scored a 2.1, down a tenth from last week's 2.2 adults 18-49 rating.

On ABC, Last Resort earned a 1.2, up two tenths after last week's series-low 1.0 adults 18-49 rating down. Grey's Anatomy earned 3.0, down a tenth after last week's 3.1 rating and tying its season low. Scandal earned a season high 2.5 after last week's 2.2 adults 18-49 rating.

On NBC, 30 Rock scored a 1.1, down two tenths after last week's 1.3 adults 18-49 rating and tying its season low. Up All Night was even with its previous 1.2 adults 18-49. The Office notched a 2.1, up two tenths after last week's series low 1.9 rating. Parks & Recreation earned a 1.5, up a tenth after last week's series low 1.4. Rock Center garnered a 1.0, up a tenth after last week's  0.9 adults 18-49 rating.

On the CW, Vampire Diaries scored a 1.1, down from last week's 1.4 rating. Beauty And The Beast earned a 0.5 rating, down from last week's 0.6 rating

* In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.8/7; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.6/7; and ABC's combo of "Nightline," 3.1/8; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.6/5 with an encore.

 

* In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: > "> The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,> "> 0.7/4; "Late Show," 0.8/4; "Nightline," 1.2/5; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3 with an encore.

 

* At 12:35 a.m., "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.4/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.3/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/3 in 18-49) tied "Late Late Show" (0.4/3).

 

* At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    They thought the X factor would get better ratings this year, they were really cleaver to change its branding, they also added a lot of different people to make it intersting and marketable to different kinds of people. They add Demi = teens, Britney = yound adults, Mario = some latinos?, Khloe = well… but it didn’t work, I’m sure they will try to change it again and again and again but it will probably end next season, because it is a monster, it’s way too big to get such bad ratings, Simon is no longer relevante, he is amazing at what it does behind the scenes, he understands talent and how to milk it, but the public got tired of him, it’s been a while since he’s been around.

    Hang in there Elementary,I hope this show makes to aleast 4 seasons but that should be no problem for Person of Interest,that show is turning into a runaway sucess for CBS and Warner Bros.POI RULES!!!

    Since POI is a very solid performer for CBS and they can’t really use the Machine as plot device on another show, look out for a hybrid of Touch and POI in a couple of seasons.

    It will be interesting to see what Elementary does in the spring when NBC enters the competition. Do No Harm is a crime/mystery drama with a male lead based on Jekyll & Hyde. NBC is clearly targeting Elementary and their crime/mystery drama with a male lead based on Sherlock Holmes, rather than putting on a female oriented drama that would compete directly with Scandal.

    Wow. Cw tanked…I mean if that can even be a thought seeing how they always tank, but usually they tank less…

    POI works because of the chemistry of the leads, nothing more. The plot line is nice and serviceable but it won’t make a success on its own. Isn’t it time folks get that its not the premise that brings people? Its the acting and the writing staff of the show. Premises are a dime a dozen.
