That is an extraordinary gap between the 25-54 and 18-49 numbers. Is that the reason CBS always quotes the 25-54 first? Or do they actually sell advertising on the 25-54 basis?

I get that the 18-24 crowd watches less TV and less likely to be brand-loyal, making them more valuable to advertisers, but besides the “they have less money” argument, they’re targeted in a whole heap of other spheres, notably web advertising. Fiftysomethings in full-time work can’t be reached cheaply in daytime, unlike older people who’ve already retired, and they probably have more disposable income than those aged 18-49. And evidently millions of them turn on their TVs when they arrive from work and keep them tuned to CBS!
