There were no changes this week, unless you count Leverage executive producer Dean Devlin saying that in The Event the show isn't renewed for a sixth season, the Leverage season finale will serve nicely as a series finale. That news prompted commenter "Ray" to ask:
In the rational world of the TV business, as opposed to the irrational world of TV fandom, is there any reason to think that the existence of a “just-in-case” series finale will in any way impact a network’s decision whether to renew? I ask this in complete ignorance and without sarcasm.
That's a great question and the answer is "no, the existence of a 'just-in-case' finale likely has no impact whatsoever on TNT's decision process."
I view the PR campaign by the production team (and I'm not saying they spent a lot on it, but they did use an outside PR agency to help spread the word) as a combination of two things:
- Frustration that no decision has been reached yet
- A desire to connect with fans of the show with a "hey, we care about you" message
I have no reason to doubt the sincerity of either component. The way it has gone down signals to me that there is some thinking on the production team's part that maybe it would have been better, at least in hindsight, to just announce have announced season five as the final season so the series could have gone out with a little fanfare. Because in the case that this is the final season, it's getting no "catch the final season of 'Leverage' oomph from TNT. With a renewal still possible, it's not like Devlin and his team could issue press releases saying "We wish TNT was promoting the season finale as the series finale!" But, you know, in the case that it doesn't get renewed, in hindsight they will have wished TNT had promoted the season finale as the series finale.

Most of the shows on the list have statuses - if there isn't a status that just means there has been no announcement at the time of the most recent update (see date at top of post and/or above the table below).
If you find errors or omissions (excluding unscripted shows, kids shows or shows that have not aired yet) please note them in the comments and I'll update the table.
Notes:
- Kids shows and Adult Swim shows are not on the list below
- I've seen some squawking about shows on the list below that are owned/created by networks/studios outside of the United States. For purposes of this list, which focuses on U.S. cable networks, I'm only focused on where the shows air here in U.S.
- Shows from overseas like Downton Abbey & Sherlock that air on PBS in the U.S. are not in the list below (PBS is not a cable network), though ITV has renewed Downton Abbey for a 4th season in the UK which will ultimately air in the states.
- Despite some current inconsistencies in the table below, I do not intend to track episode orders or return dates specifically in this table at this time. The primary goal of the table is: what's been renewed, what's been canceled, and what shows fates haven't been decided yet.

Ok i get that its hard to predict with Cable but why not give your opinion on what will be canceled and renewed? You would be correct 90% of the time anyway.
I don’t really think the just-in-case series finale will really affect TNT’s decision. Let’s be honest here, if Leverage (I don’t know the particular details) has not been making TNT money, then by no-means is a just-in-case series finale going to influence their decision to cancel or renew.
Leverage wouldn’t be the only series left hanging in limbo. I remember how CSI Miami never got a real chance to say goodbye & the series got canned after the final episode already aired. CSI NY twice now crafted possible series ending finales but keeps getting renewed so who knows what’ll happen to Leverage.
So what did you write in the comments at the end of Dr. who it is cut off on my computer ?
Please put alphas out of its misery!
The show SUCKS!!!!!
And what about drop dead diva? Do you have some informations?
Now that you have the big list for a few weeks, does this mean that if you add a new/missed show or update a status, including number of seasons, that it will be included in the text above the list?
Meaning if I’ve already read the whole list, then each update I should only need to concern myself with the text above the list for any new information?
Thanks again for doing this. Even if it isn’t a big traffic driver I am sure that a lot of us value it a lot. If you opt to make it a once a month update that works just as well. Scripted Cable (Basic/Premium) is still in it’s infancy as far as traffic eyeballs. We need to start somewhere to bring Scripted Cable it’s rightful (b/c of # of quality shows) traffic. Having this list available helps spread the news of shows to watch besides what shows up from the Zap2It feed “Tonight In Primetime”.
what about drop dead diva?Lifetime hasn’t said anything yet. I’m so worried
@Robert,
When should we hear news about Alphas? What is usually the timeframe in which Scify operates?
@Robert
Why is there a “but” next to Hell on Wheels?
@coolionicoolioni re: Dr Who
I really wanted to like Alphas. I liked Ryan Cartwright on Bones and actually like his character on Alphas. I’d pretty much watch Azita Ghanizada read the phone book so there was that as well. The episodes seemed SO slow moving. I couldnt get into it.
I wouldnt mind seeing Leverage go on. I have all of the episodes but havent gotten through them all yet.
Other comments that were “cut off” due to small screen size and less than optimal coding.
@Anna: good question. I’m not sure but my guess is that in most weeks, yes, you’ll only need to look at the text. If there winds up being weeks where that’s not the case, I’ll cross the bridge when I get to it.
@SaraL: I added some more text for Hell On Wheels.
@Omabin: my understanding, which may well be incorrect is that a decision has to be made by the end of January.
Other comments that were “cut off” due to small screen size and less than optimal coding.
Indeed, table width was too-wide. should be fixed now.
@Robert
Shouldn’t you blank out the statuses for Happily Divorced and Hot in Cleveland now that their seasons have started?
Not that I’m worried – But why hasn’t The Walking Dead been renewed yet, this season has been the best it has ever been, and its ratings beat just about every other show out there (in terms of demographics, at least – but it number of viewers each week beats all other cable shows), for the past two seasons it has been renewed about a week after the season premiere, and in its midseason finale it became the first cable show in history to beat ALL broadcast shows except NFL football. It’s generally ASKING for a renewal because let’s face it – it will be renewed… We just don’t know when.
I suspect Leverage will get another final season, but I have no knowledge of how TNT is with longer running shows whose ratings get low. On the CW, the show would probably get a final short season. Has TNT ever done that?
I think Alphas should get another season, but I have no idea if they will. The show is excellent in just about every respect, but the ratings are low. Still, Sanctuary got renewed for its fourth season if I remember correctly with ratings as or nearly as low. I might be wrong about that.
Losing both shows will be a disappointment to me.
im in the middle of hunted right now. hope it gets picked up. pretty good show.
@Richard
They added a few additional episodes to Saving Grace a few years ago.
