There were no changes this week, unless you count Leverage executive producer Dean Devlin saying that in The Event the show isn't renewed for a sixth season, the Leverage season finale will serve nicely as a series finale. That news prompted commenter "Ray" to ask:
In the rational world of the TV business, as opposed to the irrational world of TV fandom, is there any reason to think that the existence of a “just-in-case” series finale will in any way impact a network’s decision whether to renew? I ask this in complete ignorance and without sarcasm.
That's a great question and the answer is "no, the existence of a 'just-in-case' finale likely has no impact whatsoever on TNT's decision process."
I view the PR campaign by the production team (and I'm not saying they spent a lot on it, but they did use an outside PR agency to help spread the word) as a combination of two things:
- Frustration that no decision has been reached yet
- A desire to connect with fans of the show with a "hey, we care about you" message
I have no reason to doubt the sincerity of either component. The way it has gone down signals to me that there is some thinking on the production team's part that maybe it would have been better, at least in hindsight, to just announce have announced season five as the final season so the series could have gone out with a little fanfare. Because in the case that this is the final season, it's getting no "catch the final season of 'Leverage' oomph from TNT. With a renewal still possible, it's not like Devlin and his team could issue press releases saying "We wish TNT was promoting the season finale as the series finale!" But, you know, in the case that it doesn't get renewed, in hindsight they will have wished TNT had promoted the season finale as the series finale.

Most of the shows on the list have statuses - if there isn't a status that just means there has been no announcement at the time of the most recent update (see date at top of post and/or above the table below).
If you find errors or omissions (excluding unscripted shows, kids shows or shows that have not aired yet) please note them in the comments and I'll update the table.
Notes:
- Kids shows and Adult Swim shows are not on the list below
- I've seen some squawking about shows on the list below that are owned/created by networks/studios outside of the United States. For purposes of this list, which focuses on U.S. cable networks, I'm only focused on where the shows air here in U.S.
- Shows from overseas like Downton Abbey & Sherlock that air on PBS in the U.S. are not in the list below (PBS is not a cable network), though ITV has renewed Downton Abbey for a 4th season in the UK which will ultimately air in the states.
- Despite some current inconsistencies in the table below, I do not intend to track episode orders or return dates specifically in this table at this time. The primary goal of the table is: what's been renewed, what's been canceled, and what shows fates haven't been decided yet.

Quick note for chart improvement… The Hour on BBCA has started airing already and can probably be removed (you know, if you’re into that sorta thing
).
According to Ryan Cartwright’s Twitter feed (yeah, I know), we won’t know anything about the status of Alphas until mid-December. So expect no news for at least another week.
@hiddenicon
I don’t think Robert should remove shows but instead just change the notation to (in this case) ‘Currently airing 2nd season’
The question is when to remove shows that have ended/been canceled? I vote for keeping them on for the year then in the spring do a ‘Cable Shows that Ended or were canceled 2012-2013′ post to clear them out and keep just the ongoing shows. He can then put a link to the post in the weekly status post and there’ll be a historical record onsite until the end of time … which sadly is just 13 days away … on the plus side Angus doesn’t have to worry about filth anymore!
ymmv
As far as this list goes I might be rooting for the Mayans!
I don’t think @hiddenicon meant remove The Hour from the list, just that with S2 already airing and no news about S3 yet, there was no need to have “Renewed for S2″ in the status and that the status could/should be removed (which I agree with), similar to Nick’s comment about the TV Land shows.
I’m sure the list will evolve (or, possibly die after 12/21, Mayans or no!). Sadly, unlike the broadcast shows which are tied to the late September-May season, I don’t think there is any one-size-fits-all “clear out the cancelled shows” methodology that will please everyone. But as long as the list is useful, nitpicking over that won’t bother me.
DW: Yes, Hunted was pretty good, although the last few minutes of the finale confused me enormously. So I hope they get a second season to clear that up. I especially enjoyed the presence of Indira Varma, late of “Human Target” as Natalie, the MI6 agent.
Apparently if Cinemax continues Hunted it won’t be called Hunted anymore (but will be based on the character Sam Hunter). Alan Sepinwall posted a brief e-mail interview with the series creator after the finale aired on Cinemax.
He said that while a new series would be a totally different series that “Viewers who are eager for answers to the outstanding questions from “Hunted” — about Sam’s mother, the Fingerless Man and Hourglass — won’t be disappointed.”

Ugh, I can’t believe people thought Hunted was good. A pale shadow of the vastly superior Spooks.
@RSH
“Hunted” is not getting a second season, but it is getting a spinoff. See here for details: http://www.denofgeek.com/tv/frank-spotnitz/23535/frank-spotnitz-interview-hunted-the-bbc-cancellation-the-x-files-and-more
Hunted was one of the most boring uninvolving shows I’ve seen in quite a while gave after 3rd episode and just fast forwarded thru the rest can’t wait for Spartacus and upcoming Julius Caesar
@Robert Seidman
Out of curiosity, have you seen the numbers for Alphas? They’re pretty dreadful, granted there’s a few fanboys on here that think the show has a chance at survival, when in reality it’s pretty dead. Usually when a show is dead, the network goes quiet for a while, unless there absolutely has to be a deadline for reporting said cancelation(As with Stargate).
Sanctuarys a perfect example of a poorly rated show that had a wall of silence surrounding it for months before it was canceled.
Eureka was a show that the network wanted back but was blocked by NBC Universal, so when you go from ‘renewing’ something to canceling, the most respectful thing to do is obviously to let the fans know, which the network did.
If you were to rate these cable shows with emoticons like you do with network TV shows on their chance of coming back, I would put Alphas with 1 sad emote face. Absolutely no chance of this show ever making it back for a third season.
Sadly thing aren’t looking good for Alphas at this point. The longer it takes the less likely it is that the show is renewed.
If we did predictions here, Underemployed, which just got moved to Saturday’s, would be “certain to be canceled.” In fact, if it was a network show, doesn’t moved to Saturday’s already mean essentially canceled?
I mostly watch USA, HBO, and SHO when it comes to cable shows. And most of them air from January to March or from June to August. It’s hard to have a competitive “renew/cancel” index when so many shows air at different times. There are very few “toss ups” at any given time in cable.
“People Seemed Overly Annoyed That I Had No Status Here”
Maybe because the episodes that have been shown on BBCA over the last year won’t be filmed for another two years?
@hello
*Round of applause here* Finally, someone gets it. Kudos to you Sir.
@The Original J
Cast members are unreliable sources of information, they know as much as the public do about their shows renewal chances or when a show is coming back/decision due to be made. This is a fact.
@The End
First of all, my comment made it pretty clear that I knew about the unreliability of the source in question, so you’re not telling me something I didn’t already allude to in my own post. Second, the ratings for Alphas were similar to the ratings for the latter part of S1, which were available as a basis for SyFy’s decision-making process when they renewed it for a second season. In fact, the S2 finale was up slightly from the S1 finale it total viewers, while the demo numbers were identical. I say all this only to say that it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Alphas gets a third season. I don’t know if it will or not, but I guess it’s easier to spout off overly opinionated pronouncements like that there’s “Absolutely no chance” the show comes back than to look at all the different factors in play.
TNT mess up Leverage they should give them another chance I hate TNT . Is there any chance another network will pick up Leverage?
@Original J/The End: cast members perhaps a lousy source of renew/cancel prognosticating info, but presumably a very good source for when contracts expire!
@Sharon,
Is there any chance another network will pick up Leverage?
No. It’s five years old with low ratings and no network has any extra financial incentive to pick it up.
i just finished hunted. had a great ending if it doesnt return. yes the first episodes were slow but it added to the storytelling. one mans slow hunted is another mans slow game of thrones.
