The NFL utilizes “flexible scheduling” on Sundays in Weeks 11-17. Flexible scheduling will ensure quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots in those weeks and give teams a chance to play their way onto primetime and into the late-afternoon 4:25 PM ET time slot on CBS and FOX.

For each of the flexible scheduling weeks with the exception of Week 17, the NFL will announce the start times of games on Sundays no later than 12 days prior to that weekend. To ensure a Sunday night game and doubleheader games with playoff implications in Week 17, the flexible scheduling decision for that Sunday may be made on six days notice.

Although the San Diego/Jets game was (understandably) flexed-out of prime-time, moving it to 1:05 P.M. EST forced the Giants/Baltimore game (which I thought was going to get flexed into prime-time) since it’s my understanding that the two New York-area NFL teams cannot both be playing at the same time, unless they’re playing head-to-head.

Since the final “NFL Sunday Night Football” game on December 30th won’t be determined until the conclusion of play on December 23rd, it’s my guess that either the Dallas/Washington or Houston/Indianapolis game will be “flexed” into prime-time, depending on the standings and the impact that game will have on the playoff picture.

Fox protected nyg/bal so couldnt move to SNF.

  • romo

Should add nyg/bal was going to get moved to 4:25 all along even if sd/nyj didnt leave SNF since fox wants it for their national game.

  • Mark

Thank God. If I had to watch two Jets games in a row in primetime against awful teams (they’re on Monday Night next week against the Titans), I was going to lose my mind.

Well We Always Watch The Chargers Too Much And Were Starting To See the Jets Too Much as well That game is a Woulda Coulda Suchda Stayed But This Game Will Be Great Cause You’re Going To See The 49ers Twice In 2 Weeks On NBC Sunday Night Football That is A Very Good Choice By NBC Like Last Year’s Lions Vs Saints Game Was Flexed And Was Also A Good Choice Last Year Becuase We Always see The Colts And Patriots Too Much Save The Vikings For The Season Finale In Week 17 But I Hope It’s Packers Vs Vikings That Night On Dec 30 But Last Year’s Season Finale Cowboys Vs Giants Was O.K And It Was Also The First Game Of This Current Season But Low And Behold There Will Be Football Until Sunday January 27 That’s When NBC Air’s The 2013 AFC NFC Pro Bowl For The 2nd Straight Year Becuase CBS Declined To Carry The Game Al Michaels Said Last Night On NBC Will Be At The Pro Bowl In 7 Weeks And Our Football Season Will Continue Onword With Bowl Games Starting On Saturday And Continuing With BCS Games Until The Cotton Bowl On January 4 But Not The National Title Game There Will Be A College Gameday Show From Pasadena On Tuesday Januaury 1 On ESPN 4 Days Later On Saturday January 5 The NFL Playoffs Begin With A Wildcard Playoff Doubleheader Will Be On NBC Then We Continue On Sunday January 6 The NFL Playoffs Continue On Saturday January 12 And Sunday January 13 With The Divisional Playoffs On Saturday January 19 Will Have Some College Football All Star Games With The East West Shrine Game And The NFLPA Collegiate Game Then We Will Conclude The NFL Playoffs With The NFC & AFC Conference Championship Games On Sunday January 20 But Confernece Championships Is As Far As I’m Going But Not I’m Not Gonna Watch The Super Bowl Then On Saturday January 26 We Will Have The Senior Bowl And Then Will Wrap It On Sunday January 27 With The 2013 AFC NFC Pro Bowl From Honolulu Hawaii What Game Will Be Watching In Week 17 On Sunday December 30 Stay Tuned.

Your cause and effect is wrong.

Because Chargers/Jets was moved out of primetime and because FOX was flexing Giants/Ravens for its national doubleheader, the Chargers/Jets game needed to be scheduled at 1:00 ET.

No one can read that crap.

Smart moves by both FOX and NBC as NBC will benefit from having the SF-SEA game on in prime time. NYG-BAL will be a game that matters as the Giants and Ravens are still looking at winning their divisions. Ray Lewis will be back also.

Had things worked out better that ATL-DET game would’ve been a playoff type game for one of those teams. Hopefully the Lions bounce back next season.

  • DW

Dallas / Washington will be the SNF game on the 30th. going to be a great game so it the 9er/seahawks game the week before.

Then 4 Days Later 2012-13 NFL Playoffs Begins With A Wildcard Doubleheader
